Found myself thinking for years Adele was like Taylor Swift or Katie Perry. Not so much my cup of tea. Wow I was so wrong.
Almost counting the days till her album release, but if she can do something like this link, well I will be listening and dancing around my house like nobody is listening!
Read the super long Rolling Stone interview with her and it was flat out wonderful. First off she drops the F bomb in like every sentence. I mean she calls people “cunts.” You go girl. Even better I don’t think she likes to be famous. She is just cool IMHO. Oh and a voice, a voice from the gods.
I joked she talked about the power of her voice and how it was important to her. It was said when she worked on her new LP people could hear her from the street. She shook the foundation of the studio of where she was recording.

I’m back home from being out in the rain all day. I went to see James Bond: Spectre at the matinee today then some chinese with my cousin, my nephew and my godson.
Short review: I enjoyed it. Short review: long time fans of entire Bond series will love hidden gems. Contemporary fans or just Craig era fans will like it too, but may be too “slow” for them but when action is going, it’s great old school stunts. Solid B/B+
During the movie “downtime”, me and my cuz were checking out the “costuming” for Craig. And man, let me tell you the costume department needs to be commended, from the tuxs to the suits, to the sports jackets down to his pants and shoes, they were all TAILORED FOR DA GAWDS! I mean the even during the action sequences,The fit was SPOT ON. Even Dave Bautista, big as he is, was also tailored by the gods. My cousin and I actually mentioned it throughout the movie. My cousin said he thought it was like a damn mens line fashion show…lol
Anyway, I may do a complete review on my blog tomorrow.
Of course after seeing Spectre, and even before, the discussions come to who will play Bond next (although, I think Craig is contractually obligated for one more film?). The name dropped that was making the news was of course, my bae, Idris Elba. So it got me to discussing it with my cousin about our fav Bond. He’s a Brosnan fan. I like Craig’s Bond as “brawler” type…it fits as a “prequel” to when Bond becomes the suave spy of the later years. Craig’s Bond is supposed to eventually become the Bond of Connery and Brosnan, less brawler, more suave lover. I could totally see Idris carrying on in the vein of Brosnan. Certain folk claimed Idris would be a “tough” or “hood” for Bond but I actually think he’s less a brawler than Craig, and that Idris, if you ignore he’s not white, would actually be closer to the Connery/Brosnan suave Bond than Craig was…but…that’s another Blog post I’ll be working on soon.
Went to check, and – phew! – apparently James Bond doesn’t have a middle name. Was half afeared it would turn out to be Ellis.

Saw the latest James Bond movie, SPECTRE, earlier today. Some good scenes and photography, and many in the audience seemed to really enjoy it. But I thought it a disappointment. I don’t want to slam it to hard on its opening weekend, and as always your mileage may vary.
Ultimately, I think that Mendes was the wrong director for he material. This is not just because he wanted to “open it up” and make it more dramatic and offer a human, vulnerable Bond. It is that he fundamentally is poor at depicting action. The acting is often very good, but there is one scene in which Ralph Fiennes is framed so poorly that he looks more like his character Voldermont from Harry Potter than a human being. Very unflattering and quite distracting.
It is about 2 and a half hours, far too long than the material merits.
ETA: just saw the other review. Interesting variation. Agree about the clothes, but in a couple of shots, Craig looks more rumpled than suave to me.
@Baud: And that is my fear to be honest. Not done any work on the site for the last day, well a few days. Even the most basic shit and things go haywire. I am scared. Worried I will make things worse and not better. I think I know way this is, a third party put in ads, but maybe I am just shit all stupid. Just for a frame of reference, I don’t think I am shit all stupid.
@PurpleGirl: Seems pretty damn ridiculous for avast to block the whole page because of an invalid cert for one CDN upstream for one embedded item (probably a video). What OS are you running? If it’s Windows 10, you can probably just ditch Avast altogether and use the built-in Windows Defender. I used to work for an AV company (disclaimer: I did antispam, not AV) and I can tell you that Defender is really not shabby as AV goes.

@Tommy Young: Hey man, we’ve been giving you a lot of shit, but you’re cleaning out the Augean Stables here (speaking of shit) trying to pull BJ into a modern system. Definitely take a break, but don’t let us cantankerous bastards grind you down — you’re doing all right. Thing I gotta ask though is, do you have a dev system to work on? You really don’t want to be banging on the live site all the time.
@p.a.: Faulk was kind of a stud for the Pats. Never a 1,500 yard guy, but around 980 a year and never turned over the ball. Then he started to fumble, and Bill got rid of him in a New York minute.
In that writer’s defense, he got taken out of context — he did say he thought after “Luther” that Elba was too “street,” but his alternative was Adrian Lester, who’s probably best known in the US for playing Joan’s boyfriend Ellis on “Girlfriends.” So he was saying which Black British actor he preferred for the role, not saying it should stay a white dude.
@NotMax: I dunno, Essentials really slowed things down horribly on most of the Win7 systems I tried it on. Defender (part of Essentials actually) seems to have gotten a good speed boost with Win8 though, and I imagine it’s carried over to Win10.

@Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism: Damn, cloudflare has really fallen from grace these days. I remember when they were a top-tier CDN. As for BJ, most like it was some embedded item using a CF cert, but having an AV block the whole site because of that is a little bit overly paranoid. But if CF is becoming a vector for attacks, perhaps it’s not too paranoid after all.

@lamh36: Craig’s Bond is supposed to eventually become the Bond of Connery and Brosnan, less brawler, more suave lover.
I don’t get the logic. I mean, I sort of get it, but Craig is 47. Connery was 32 when he filmed Dr. No. I like Craig as Bond, but he doesn’t look young at all – he’s a good-looking dude, and definitely fit, but there’s no doubt that he’s mid-40’s.
The movie was good, definitely worth seeing, with my usual Spielberg caveat—technical genius married to the storytelling aesthetic of a precocious teenager. A few too many instances of Spielberg bonking us on the head with the point to make sure that every single person in the audience gets it. Very tight, understated performance by Mark Rylance (late of Wolf Hall) as Soviet spy Rudolf Abel. Tom Hanks as amiable everyman (as usual), but he does that very well. As I said, worth seeing. Ignore my grumbling.
He’s a British writer who was talking to a British newspaper, and the show that Adrian Lester stars in, “Hustle,” gets 5 million viewers a week in the UK. I still don’t think it was Horowitz’s fault that people outside the UK aren’t that familiar with Lester, but the guy is one of their biggest TV stars.
It’s one of the hazards of having global media in some ways (like newspaper stories) but not others (like having BBC shows here every night).
The CMA duet was a cover of George Jones “Tennessee Whiskey” and Timberlake’s “Drink You Away”. Did not know all of them owe so much homage to the divine Etta until you mentioned it. Apparently Stapleton has already said same. As “Tennessee Whiskey” is on his album.

If Lin-Manuel and Tariq seemed extra friendly, it’s because Tariq co-produced the “Hamilton” cast album with Questlove. They were his first choice as producers because the Roots do such a mix of genres and, luckily for him, they loved the show and agreed to do it.

Yes, thought it was excellent. Written by the Coen brothers. First-rate. A serious movie with some real issues for a change, and a fine understated character study of an average guy who rises to the circumstances (in other words, a typical Tom Hanks film). Spielberg’s direction was a little heavy-handed. He had to HAMMER US IN THE FACE with THE MESSAGE every few minutes. PAY ATTENTION, AUDIENCE, THIS IS THE GOOD GUY! THESE ARE THE BAD GUYS! @lamh36: This is sort of old but Robert Lansing played General Savage in the TV series 12 O’Clock High. After the second season (IIRC) he was replaced with Paul Ford. Technically Ford was older than Lansing but the TPTB thought Lansing looked older, too much older for the part. I really preferred Robert Lansing. (Of course, Gregory Peck is really General Frank Savage.)
@PurpleGirl: Right…Craig was chosen I believe I read for the exact reason that TPTB were going for a “younger looking” but not by much and more brawny, still temperamental Bond. If you think about it, Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, & Brosnan portrayed Bond as a smooth talking, non-emotional, stone cold, suauve killing machine. Craig’s Bond was meant to be rough and tough, more likely to use his hands and choke a foe as to use a gun or some such.
So “younger” meaning temperament, not age.

Getting a used machine with OEM Win7/64 Pro is the best bet if you’re stuck with XP, not to mention a netbook from 2008. During the movie “downtime”, me and my cuz were checking out the “costuming” for Craig. And man, let me tell you the costume department needs to be commended, from the tuxs to the suits, to the sports jackets down to his pants and shoes, they were all TAILORED FOR DA GAWDS! I agree. I get that he has a hard job here, and it’s gotta suck having commenters griping and questioning your competence while you’re playing whack-a-mole with the problems arising with a brand new redesign. But never before have I read something someone posted here and physically tensed up. I understand that this is all online, that (as was said upthread) people who issue threats usually don’t act on it, and that I wasn’t even involved in the exchanges. But it instantly changed the atmosphere here.
I don’t know the guy. All I know is he has the keys to the place, and tonight he used that to make commenters here feel that he could be a threat to them on and offline. (ETA: Maybe not offline. @Anne Laurie: Back during the days of the ACA, Stuck was running around with eemom and some other random dude acting like Blog Sherriffs of BJ. Was quite annoying for those of us who had real problems with ACA as it was proposed. Finally, he went too far and Cole put his foot down that this was HIS blog, thank you very much. Stuck had a snit fit and took a ‘vacation’, as he called it when he finally came back. This was, of course, long before his death. And, yes, it was that very beloved General Stuck. People tend to forget that part, as it was long ago.
I’ve used it a few times on a few people, but sometimes let some of those people out of pieville after a while. And since the migration, I haven’t used it yet.
The pie filter is a tool. None of us are obligated to read everything that’s posted here. ;-)
On this latest kerfuffle:
Tommy was saying what he had the capability to do. Of course, anyone with the keys can do that. Whether his personal troll, or those who annoyed him recently, get permanently banned is obviously not his decision since it’s not his blog. If he threw the ban hammer down on CS, Cole would probably make him reverse it. And I believe that Tommy would indeed never do it anyway, so it’s all moot.
Of course CS took GREAT UMBRAGE with LOTS OF LOUD NOISES that Tommy mentioned having that capability, as expected when he’s in his crabby mood.

I love country music now, but I have to blame Garth Brooks and the pop-Nashville crew for completely turning me off to country music when I was a kid in the 90s. Because of them, I only discovered Hank Williams, Gram Parsons, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, etc. through decades of osmosis.

@lamh36:

@Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism: Damn, cloudflare has really fallen from grace these days. I remember when they were a top-tier CDN. But if CF is becoming a vector for attacks, perhaps it’s not too paranoid after all.

How is asking why the website in your nym is defunct trolling? It’s your nymph, you put the link in, you thanked someone the first day for pointing it out and said you were moving servers. Why is that trolling?

But I do find it kind of funny a few people that troll me, and there is no other word for it, don’t get if I wanted I could ban them, track them down, and do the same to them outside of here.
Again I would never, never, never do that.
I’m confused. I suspect that commenters understand that if you have the keys, you have the capacity to ban an IP. So if you would never, never, never do that, why mention it? It sounds vaguely threatening.
I confess that it’s really creepy that you add “track them down, and do the same to them outside of here.” That’s a tad over the top, and sounds more than vaguely threatening.
@raven: Yay! I got no love for Nebraska, but I really don’t like that asshole Schembechler’s team, as much as I really don’t like Ohio State.

I’m having an alarmingly bad week with neural connection issues. I knew all that and still wrote it wrong, because I was seeing Michigan blue in my brain. Did I mention that I actually saw part of that game, with the green & white uniforms, and Spartans (we are all now) on the helmets? Not only do I internet wrong, I remember and write wrong. FML.

Mingobat f/k/a Karen in GA
@Omnes Omnibus: “…I think Tommy stepped way over the line this evening.”
Maybe he meant something else by “track you down.” No idea.) Yes, he said he would never do that. But he could. Just so you know that whether or not you’re safe (ETA: if only from online stalking and harassment elsewhere) is up to him.
Not cool.
Corner Stone
@efgoldman: You’re way off base, friend. The shit Tommy was talking had nothing to do with me in this thread, initially. And he has been rude/abused steady non-asshole commenters like Bella Q and Satby, and dissed polite inquiries from G&T since he got the keys. His blatant, way over the top threats of not only God Mode-ing commenters but taking it outside the blog are WAAAAYYYY over the fucking top.
Stop hiding behind me being an asshole and face the fucking facts that his behavior had nothing to do with me until I called it out. Well after the initial fact.
Omnes Omnibus
@redshirt: How have you proven that CS has you pied? The fact that he doesn’t respond to you proves fuck all.
Anne Laurie
@Tommy Young:
Tommy, I have to agree with Ms. Bella — I’m sure you *meant* that as a joke but it still came off as threatening to me, as well.
As for your beef with Corner Stone, he’s a big boy and can fight his own dick-swinging contests, but he’s been snarking at these precincts for longer than either of us, and when he’s not talking sports he can be excellent company. As others have said, Cole’s blog, Cole’s rules.
NobodySpecial
@Anne Laurie: Back during the days of the ACA, Stuck was running around with eemom and some other random dude acting like Blog Sherriffs of BJ. Was quite annoying for those of us who had real problems with ACA as it was proposed. Finally, he went too far and Cole put his foot down that this was HIS blog, thank you very much. Stuck had a snit fit and took a ‘vacation’, as he called it when he finally came back. This was, of course, long before his death. And, yes, it was that very beloved General Stuck. People tend to forget that part, as it was long ago.
I'mNotSureWhoIWantToBeYet
@redshirt: Unworthy? Strange word choice.
I hope everyone relaxes a bit.
My $0.02.

@Omnes Omnibus: Tommy wasn’t saying what he could do. Tommy was implicitly threatening commenters he has issues with.
I read that as a very old school meatspace threat. Having been at the receiving end of more than a few of those, they don’t bother me, but I find them incredibly humorously annoying. Or annoyingly humorous. What makes me actually unhappy is when it involves someone who (might) be female.

@Anne Laurie: I’m unsure where you’re going with this. efoldman decided this was about me, because that makes it easy for him. I, for one, didn’t threaten commenters, or FP’ers here with some magical God Mode to not only shut them down here but somehow offline as well?
How is this on me, in any way? I’m not supposed to object to this? Loudly and with umbrage?
I’m confused why you have anything to say to me on this.
