I miss him so much.
Enrolled Thurston Howl in puppy school, which will start on 11 July at 10:30 am. On the form, it asked for “behavioral issues.” I just wrote “puppy” and left it at that.

I work evenings, so I missed the memorial in SC.
But I’m catching up now. Man…those pics of FLOTUS and POTUS arriving and greeting the Pinckney girls and their mom
This has got to be hitting FLOTUS really hard! Sen Pinckney…father of two girls, Black politician…there but by the grace of God…and all that.
Brought to mind when FLOTUS talked about her worse fears on the campaign trail when she talked about why she was scared for Barack to run for President.
And I see this pic with Mrs Pinckney and her girls and I’m just overcome.
Sorry to be a debbie downer…but with all the good news today and yesterday…the SC funeral was sobering.

So as you may know, my spouse, G, was laid off from his job of 20 years at the end of February. When he was let go, he was a manager with a staff of 7.
Yesterday, they called to offer him the chance to interview for a NON-manager job 50 miles away at half his salary.
As I said when he texted me, “Did you say ‘no,’ ‘hell, no,’ or ‘are you fucking kidding me?'”

You’re 100% right. Very sobering indeed, but today our President stood in the pulpit of an African Methodist Episcopal Church and delivered a eulogy/sermon about grace. Our POTUS sang from his soul and his heart to his country and it was incredible and good in so many ways. I recognize the pain of Clementa Pinckney’s family and the other families who lost their beloveds, and don’t want to diminish that, but the President today reminded us (again, as he so often has) to look within and be the change we want to see. It’s slow and painful but we are doing it and our side is winning and we will prevail, because we have love and acceptance in our favor. I take that from the eulogy today and from the rulings of SCOTUS this week.

35 California counties grant healthcare to immigrants in U.S. illegally
47 of 58 counties will provide healthcare to undocumented immigrants. Working toward 58 of 58.
What most people don’t seem to get is that we’ve already been through our tea party phase. It started in the mid-70s and ran through the mid-90s, with Prop 187 arguably being the final straw. We did the tax absolutism, the immigrant backlash, and all that. We were Kansas back when Brownback was still in college.
In the end it backfired badly on conservatives. My mom cracks jokes about how screwed up California is, but most of that is residual damage from that period. Now we run large budget surpluses. The Democrats are paying off all of the Republican debt that stacked up. We’re expanding abortion (⅓ of all providers in the US are in California), providing drivers licenses and health care to immigrants, and soon look to be doing automatic voter registration and online voting. We’re now as blue a state as Massachusetts.
I’m not convinced that this week marks an inflection point for the country, but the tone and timing of the President’s eulogy of Rev. Pinckney was simply perfect. He has given us momentum. We gotta keep this thing going.

There’s an early group Au something with S Stills in it. Is there anything from then that you like a lot? @raven: @Steeplejack:

@Steeplejack: Dude could jam. I saw CS&N in Phoenix about 20 years ago and the sucked.

@Aleta: Have not heard and album from there”

Chances are the Au Go-Go Singers wouldn’t rate this entry, or the reissue of their one and only completed album on CD in the 1990s, if not for the fact that it was as members of that short-lived group that Stephen Stills and Richie Furay first formally hooked up together. Additionally, the Au Go-Go Singers provided the indirect basis upon which Stills was first seen and heard by Neil Young.

High Flyin’ Bird – Au Go-Go Singers@Aleta:
Thanks for mentioning this. I had not heard it but that genre was important to me and it’s great to hear. I knew Stills tried out for the Monkees but this was news.

@Aleta:
The Au Go Go Singers, from the Café Au Go Go. I’ve never heard any of their stuff—and of course now I see it’s on YouTube. Of course. Will have to listen.
I am a big fan of Buffalo Springfield and still listen to all three of their albums frequently. A favorite Stills song: “Pretty Girl Why.”

@Steeplejack: It’s pretty tepid today but, hell, I liked the Kingston Trio and shit.

@raven:
Folk and folk-rock were a big deal. Early Gordon Lightfoot holds up really well for me.

Someone may have already said this because I don’t have time to read the thread yet, but PLEASE make this into a poster/T-shirt that we can get on Cafe Press!

Just wanted to run by to say “YAY for enrolling Thurston in puppy school!” Good owner, here’s a treat.

I’ve been calling it on twitter and facebook and am writing on my blog right now: this has been another crazy week in American history. Much akin to the week we had with the Boston bombing (and then the fertilizer warehouse explosion, and the terror threat in DC, and five other things), remember that?
This is a slightly different kind of crazy, though. The bittersweet kind: there is tragedy, yes, but also hope and love and faith and grace and a sense that dammit things are getting better.
Lemme keep writing my blog post.

Maybe ‘Too cool for Texas’ should try taking off his sunglasses.
As for Puppy school, doesn’t Thurston already know how to be a puppy? ;-)

I came home from the hospital yesterday, after 2nd left total shoulder joint replacement.
Some pain issues, evidently damage caused by strenuous work is harder to repair than some, dealing with retracting large muscles.
But I rehabbed well after right shoulder work, exceeded expectations, so in 2 or 3 weeks I’ll get to work on that. I’ll never do hard physical work again, rock breaking and carpentry, but getting around to travel should be good.
Best of luck with your recovery. Don’t hurt yourself trying to fast, I have a friend who each year he starts out strictly adhering and in a couple of weeks he’s I’ll! So don’t do that!
What a wonderful week here in America, it makes the surgery easy to recover from when the heart is light!

This really hurt my heart. I had allowed myself once to believe Tunch would always be around. I was not at all prepared for the Rainbow Tunch. It was like a punch in the gut.

This was beautiful, Cole.
