Easy laffs, since it’s been a long week. Annie Lowrey, at NYMag, reports that “Ann Coulter Wants to Know Why She Doesn’t Make You Mad Anymore“:
Nobody is paying attention to Ann Coulter, and she does not like it.
“They’re ignoring me now!” Coulter wails, sitting in a conference room at the National Press Club in Washington as a large crowd filters in to hear her promote her new book, ¡Adios, America!.
“I haven’t been on CNN yet, because I was made up, my hair was done, I was mic’ed up, I was walking to the set,” where Don Lemon was anchoring, she said. “He was doing a full hour on the Doogans or whatever their name is,” she said, referring to the Duggars. Given the interest in one Duggar son’s confession of molestation, the network ended up bumping her segment. “The next night, ‘We’re going to do all Doogans again.’ And then the next week, it’s the cop who yelled at a girl in a bikini! And then it’s Bruce Jenner!”
This is the lament of a woman who became a national political celebrity by stoking outrage — who rose up alongside the cable-television networks and conservative talk-radio, needling liberals and flattering conservatives with a potent mix of hilarity, bombast, and the occasional dash of racism. This is the lament of a woman who has written an outrageous book, one immaculately designed to piss off half of America, or more. This is the lament of a woman living in a time of outrage, outrage that spreads viruslike on Twitter, television, and Facebook. This is the lament of a woman who has found herself unable to capitalize on that outrage…
Coulter is now courting Donald Trump, Seeryus GOP Presidential Candidate. Speaking of things that will eventually inspire much snarkage on the Twitters…

Tiny violins? Grantland has a story on the best music documentary ever made. The Decline of Western Civilization. I cannot tell you how many times I watched pt I in high school. Fear. Black Flag. X. twice in the first few paragraphs, young Mrs Ezra Klein refers to Coulter’s hilarity. It’s always escaped me. But it did occur to me that back in the Impeachment days, when she was the crazy-eyed psycho screaming at Geraldo (matched crazy-eye for crazy-eye by Pat Caddell), I don’t think she’d yet hit on the idea to pretend to be funny.

Miss Coulter.
(I always call her Miss Coulter.) Some of you who were youngsters during the Lewinsky debacle might not know that Miss Coulter and a friend or two were present for one of the first private airings of the tapes of young Monica discussing her adventures in the West Wing.
Imagine their delight! Imagine the ruthlessness with which they exposed the whole sad mess, certain that it would be the end of Bill and Hillary. Imagine how annoyed they were when it all backfired . . . and just know that Miss Coulter’s plan now is to hustle back onto the stage in time for this season’s run of Clinton-hating — which is why she doesn’t want to be ignored.
She was a founding member of that team, after all.

Watching Ann Coulter on Bill Maher in Friday, I was all ready to get pissed off , get my blood pressure shooting up etc. but she looked pathetic and you when the audience booed her and cheered Bill Maher and Joy Reid when they pushed back, it seemed like even she knew her days of top shelf punditdom were over. Shes a has been.
OT, I saw a recent clip.of Monica Crowley. Damn,shes had some major plastic surgery done in her face. Did not even recognize her.
gf120581
Coulter’s problem is that so much of the convervative crowd has caught up to her on the crazy scale that she’s no longer outrageous. And outrage was all she had. Without it, she’s just an anorexic fembot who’s increasingly looking like the aging trophy wife of a retired corporate executive spending his days golfing in Florida.

Was that the time of “Oh, there are lots of us little elves in Santa Starr’s workshop”? Also, there was Stuart Taylor, VSP, who was the original Ron Fournier.
Media Matters slightly overstates the case, IIRC: Starr offered Taylor a job, Taylor, a la Fournier, thought about it but refused, and there was no conflict of interest because, again a la Fournier, Taylor says there wasn’t, but continued (again, IIRC) to see Starr socially and informally.

I am just laughing my ass off that noted abstinence-only-until-marriage advocate Bristol Palin is knocked up, out of wedlock, again.
The rumor is that she was cheating on that dude (the Medal of Honor winner) to whom she was engaged, he found out she got pregnant by someone else, and he dumped her. Thus depriving us all of seeing her become Bristol Meyer. (Which is a hilarious name.)
How much do I love that this hypocrite is once again exposed. Pregnant and probably cheating. Fuck the fucking Palins.

I mean, yes this is somewhat true, but it isn’t the real reason that her popularity with the right has fallen off. Mostly the folks on the right have given up on her because a) she no longer really outrages liberals so much as draws mockery from them, b) she’s now over 50 so the creepy old conservative male demographic doesn’t consider her attractive anymore and c) the outrage machine has so many people trying to make a buck from it she’s been crowded out.

I haven’t kept up closely with the Fitzgerald biography field, but the “big” biographies are Bruccoli’s Some Sort of Epic Grandeur (1981) for Scott and Nancy Milford’s Zelda: A Biography (1970). @gene108: Oh, FFS. That’s awful.
Omnes Omnibus
@Suzanne: Sluts. :P
SiubhanDuinne
@Suzanne:
Yeah, well, you’re a lot younger than I am. Sometimes a brow is all that’s available.

@cokane:
I remember seeing an interview with Coulter on our local public-access TV. She blamed liberals for everything wrong in the world, but did it in such a disinterested monotone it was like she was bored with her own schtick.
A truly repulsive opportunist. Conservative friends used to rave about how hot she was, but I never saw it even in her “prime” if she ever had such a thing. Maybe if you were into the skeletal heroin addict with a manly face look.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
The French have a long history of harboring American criminals.
Ira Einhorn spent a couple of decades in France, before finally being extradited.
Child rapist Roman Polaski, I believe, received a medal for his contribution to French cinema.
Maybe we should allow some wanted French criminal to hang out in this country for shits and giggles, just to even things out.

@Capri: I’ll go twenty she goes back to the strip club dumpster Roger Ailes discovered her next to.

@Suzanne:
Yeah, you could so fuck with people’s heads with having the same last name and first name and she went and ruined it by hyphenating.
“Can I have your last name to look up your account”
“Lauren”
“And your first name”
“Lauren”
“No, I need your first name”
“It’s Lauren”
Long pause
“Um…OK Mrs. Lauren, how may I help you today.”

I’m doing theatre again, up in the Puget Sound.
More steampunk on stage.
And this time…I’m gonna crash a train.
But I’m gonna need a little help…..
Mike J
@gwangung: Phil Foglio did your poster? Wow! He was half the reason I bought Dragon magazine in junior high.
Betty Cracker
@gene108: And you could really fuck with them by varying pronunciation of the syllables: LAUren LauREN, etc.
Kathleen
I somehow missed the “hilarity” part. And an “occasional dash” of racism is also hilarious or is OK or what?
Zinsky
Most spoiled little children hate to be ignored, too. Coincidence?
Robert Sneddon
@BillinGlendaleCA: Does this thing with the firecrackers happen in the evening? If so it’s probably Ramadan.
dr. luba
@Robert Sneddon: Not necessarily. In my neighborhood, firecrackers start a few weeks before the Fourth…….
Joel
@NonyNony: Coulter’s shtick works better as a toadie to the powerful rather than a voice of “opposition”.
Gavin
@BR:
Why does your friend bother arguing with conservatives? When you argue/engage with someone who already BELIEVES they’re correct… you’re going to drive them more towards that belief. You will never be viewed as “Bringing new and clever data to help them to understand the reality of their world.” – Nope, not going to happen in this life or the next.
Their opinions were quickly formed and based on nothing.. and so they assume your “facts” are just as much of a lie as the things they were originally told. After all, both sides do it!
Alex
This is like the classic Onion article “Marilyn Manson now going door-to-door trying to shock people.” It really is hard to stay on the cutting edge of cultural outrage. http://www.theonion.com/article/marilyn-manson-now-going-door-to-door-trying-to-sh-459
