Donald Trump: Actors Offered $50 to Cheer for Him at Campaign Announcement http://t.co/xaGwjXDoAK pic.twitter.com/zY2xecPCqW

$50 more than the bogus crowd for Ted Cruz's announcement got. https://t.co/rkHTZoIwqz

FREE MARKET, LIBTARDS!!!
Daniel Drezner, tongue so firmly in cheek as to protrude from the vulgar bodily orifice, #slatepitches to the Washington Post as to “Why Donald Trump will be good for the Republicans in 2016“:
… The bipartisan take on Trump’s announcement is that his candidacy will not be good for the GOP. Conservative outlet after conservative outlet has already gone after Trump for bringing his next-level buffoonery to the GOP stage…
Trump can only crowd out one of these candidates (unless Trump’s ego and hair are filing separately with the FEC). Also, it’s hard to see how Trump is any less experienced at politics than, say, Ben Carson, who will also be displacing one of those more experienced candidates. So let’s not exaggerate Trump’s displacement effect…
Trump makes real politicians look better by comparison — even Ted Cruz is an actual seasoned politician compared to Trump. Politics is a skill, and on a debate stage with people who have done this for a living, Trump will likely do about as well as Ross Perot did debating NAFTA. And the people watching these debates will think to themselves, “I’m not sure how I feel about Bush/Rubio/Walker/Paul, but I feel a damn sight better about them than Trump.”…
… And since Trump is so widely disliked by so many GOP voters, other more viable candidates will have a real incentive to lay waste to him. Indeed, eviscerating Trump on the debate stage could be a way for a Cruz or a Paul or Christie or a Perry to stand out. This will be much more interesting and than watching everyone argue over who is the true conservative in the race.
Would the GOP be better off if Donald Trump decided to become apolitical? Sure, probably. But since he has decided to be a political actor, it’s better for the Republicans that he be inside the tent — and get destroyed — than act like a kingmaker looking in from outside the tent.
Could be tough to ask donors for $ after announcing your campaign by declaring "I’m really rich". #Trump2016 http://t.co/HUu5DdD1A6

Of course, there’s at least one Repub candidate who’s not real happy about The Donald’s timing…

I find it hard to believe that Trump ever listened to Rockin’ in the Free World. Probably he read the title & thought it was just the thing. It’s like the people who keep mistaking Fortunate Son for a great pro-military anthem.

@kped: As always, all the early reports on this may be off, possibly WAY off. But yep, early reports are of multiple casualties. Also saw a couple photos on twitter of guy taken into custody, although some say he’s just a local photographer who cops felt was getting in the way. Most preliminary reports are citing a white guy as probable perp, who is not yet in custody.
To say this church is historic is putting it mildly, according to my twitter feed. Lots of background in the timelines of Laura Seay and Kevin Kruse, for example. And both are bitching about networks (CNN, MSNBC) sticking with coverage of Trump rather than going to this breaking story.

Great, now a bomb threat has been called in to the church. Streets are blocked off, police are still searching for the suspect and my daughter’s been asked by cops not to leave work yet.
A local reporter just said that a cop told him that the scene inside the church was “too awful to describe”.

I have to say a hearty thanks to those of you who helped with the rhino enrichment project. Getting it to 75% was my personal goal. Because when asked to help out with just a few days to go, why not make it a challenge? Someone even did a shout out to BJ in the lab notes. You have no idea how helpful proper animal behavior science is to animals in captivity. It’s not ideal, but it’s a way for them to survive. There’s 27 hours to go in the fund raiser, so if you feel like helping a pair of rhinos get a soccer feeding ball to play with, here ya go. https://experiment.com/projects/using-high-tech-toys-to-improve-foraging-in-captive-rhinos?s=discover

Live on local Charleston TV, police chief just finished speaking, mayor now talking. Chief said they’d take questions after the mayor is finished. They’re looking for a white guy “around 21 years old”, with sandy blonde hair. Only one gunman suspected right now. Reward info will come out tomorrow. Chief says he believes it is a hate crime (duh), mayor concurs, FBI will help in investigation.
A church elder (Norvel Goff, I think he said) now speaking.

@MikeBoyScout: Very cool statement, and Neil Young reminded everyone that he is a Canadian and not voter in the United States, but if he was he would be not be voting for someone like Trump.
Reference Charleston, before last night I caught a glimpse of the ABC nightly news (shows that I regularly watched for years, but now ignore), and the lead story was about Scary Muslims ISIS coming to kill us in our beds and featured the picture of the Black suspect arrested in Arizona. Then of course Charleston happen last night. Most of the mass killings (which are never “terrorist” incidents when committed a white, male, Real Murrican) in the Obama years been by young white males. There also seems to me an uptick in random young white males, who get ticked off by/rejected by a woman, who then kills say woman. (See this horrible story in Iowa from last weekend about the mall cop http://newsok.com/authorities-id-woman-killed-in-iowa-mall-shooting/article/feed/851599 and near where I live was this horrible murder of University of Mary Washington student http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jun/16/grace-mann-university-of-mary-washington-case.)

Wingnuts I know are worried that Trump will shade out the real CEO candidate, Carly Fiorina. I’m crappin’ you negative: They think Donald’s big problem is not his cluelessness, his status as a national joke, or his rampant unpopularity. No the problem is that he distracts people from focusing on one of the worst CEOs of all time–who they like.
And then, as the final turd on the shit sandwich, one of them piped up that he wants whoever does win the nomination “has [Trump] in the inner circle and uses his experience and knowledge.” So…the goal is to bankrupt the country, then? Because Donald’s really good at that!
