@MomSense: I have decent collection’s from both sides of the family. I always like to show off my mom’s aunt Venus. It must be staged with that windmill in the background. All the other pictures of her she had her hair in a bun and a fierce look on her face.
The commentator here in Brazil said that attack by Germany with the player appealing for a pk should not have been a penalty, but that was in out-and-out boob grab by the Norwegian player.
@MomSense: Amazing that WebCam shows you how small the world has become. I am here in Brazil about 10 days away from the winter solstice, and it has been dark for nearly an hour as it’s 5:45.
Meanwhile, in Norway some 10 days away from the summer solstice, several hours ahead of me, the sun is still out.
That huge ferry in the the small harbour is impressive. I have a time-lapse of the Stockholm ferries arriving in Turku harbour (Finland). The two ferries arrive within half an hour and one of them has to do a 180 before it can dock. It’s interesting in real time, but in time-lapse it looks amazing.
Innocent times. The teenies were their own kind of teeny in those days.
Also too: Venus on top of Charlie Brown!

@SRW1: The propulsion/steering systems are so improved now. They can go all directions in a flash.
The Voith Schneider propeller (VSP), also known as a cycloidal drive is a specialized marine propulsion system (MPS). It is highly maneuverable, being able to change the direction of its thrust almost instantaneously. It is widely used on tugs and ferries.
Hey, Venus
Oh, Venus Venus, if you will
Please send a little girl for me to thrill
A girl who wants my kisses and my arms
A girl with all the charms of you
@Steeplejack: big big grin. Look, I was tempted, but I grew up on the original so I am kind of torn on that. But be sure I used to romp around singing and dancing to the Bananarama version.
And now I remembered that Fahey had her solo thing with Shakespeare’s Sister. I loved that band name if not particularly their music.
@raven: I loved their music, haven’t listened in forever though. I am going to go unearth some of it.

It’s been fascinating to see how this game has swung around. Germany looked as if they were romping away with it in the first half, but in the second half they look short of ideas and Norway are finishing stronger.
I was about to say that I actually saw Shocking Blue in concert in about 1971 or so, but I realized that I was confusing them with Frijid Pink, another one-hit group that did a sort of psychedelic cover of “House of the Rising Sun.” I had no interest in them, but they opened for Roger McGuinn (formerly of the Byrds), so there you go. I don’t remember a single other thing about them—Frijid Pink or Shocking Blue. (Okay, I think Shocking Blue was Dutch or something.)
This has been another episode of “Faulty Music Memories.”
ETA: Damn, they make that song even more interminable than the Animals’ version. At least with that one I can hang on for Alan Price’s great organ solo. (Video edited to put you right on it.)

Deserved draw. Unless Norway manages to go on a wild goal chase in their last game it presumably serves Germany better. Can’t see Germany losing to Thailand.
@Steeplejack: You are letting me loose in the deep waters of memory here my friend… So the no link policy is appreciated. Next thing you know we are listening to Gold by Spandau Ballet
@Steeplejack: oh I am excited for you, since it’s still waiting for you.
I am telling you, it’s very addictive. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it once you watch it.

Go Norske! My peoples is from Stevanger!
SRW1
@raven:
Is it a while that they emigrated? Cause I believe the Norge folks call that Stavanger.
SRW1
I find it confusing that the Norwegian ladies play in the German jerseys. Maybe that’s why they went 1-0 down.
MomSense
Norway!
raven
@SRW1: Before the turn of the century! They, unlike me, didn’t have spellcheck!
raven
@SRW1: Here’s Nils!

I’d be fairly surprised if Germany don’t win comfortably. I’d even go so far as to call them the likely winners of the tournament.
SRW1
@raven:
Nice bowtie. You can see from the BW pic that he had blue eyes.
raven
@SRW1: Check out my grandmother Ingeborg and my aunt, uncle and dad. My dad is the youngest. This is about 1926.

CR is playing a friendly with Spain as well nad they are tied 1-1
Cheering for Norway.
@raven: wow, that is an amzing picture.
raven
@Valdivia: Yea, I’ve always been sorry grandma looked down.

I’m rooting for Germany, even though my ancestors fled religious oppression there in the late 1700’s.
Were they Jewish? No, Presbyterian!

The team with the most Portland Thorns players on it!!

oh great gol by Spain. They almost walked in.

Nice picture, even though your dad does not appear to be pleased. That staggering technique always makes me smile.

Love that photo.

@raven: that is epic. Lady Godiva like. Was her name Venus?
MomSense
@raven:
Gorgeous. Her hair was impressive. I’m glad someone had the good sense to get a picture of it.
SRW1
@raven:
That’s a bunch of nice hair! The combing must have been work though.
raven
@Valdivia: Yep. Venus if you will!
MomSense
@raven:
There is a live webcam of Stavanger harbor. I’m not sure how often they update it.

ETA Oh my! If you click on the link to the 24 hour video, you will see a huge cruise ship go into that little harbor.
Randinho
@raven: Amazing. I believe in that one moment she has more hair than I have had in the aggregate total of hair in my entire life.
SRW1
@Randinho:
Boob grabs should be penalized especially harshly.
Valdivia
@raven: Now I have that song in my head, in her honor and apt.
raven
@Valdivia: Yep. Venus if you will! Funny, I have 61 photo’s tagged with her and there are other’s with her hair down. She wasn’t ALWAYS dour either I guess.
raven
@MomSense: Cool!

Well, there’s a turn-up for the books. Hell of a good free kick and Norway have made most of the running over the last 15 minutes.

Excellent free kick! In Brazil they say that location where she placed it is where the owl sleeps in the barn.
Randinho
@SRW1: Agreed, but it should apply equally to both sexes.

Aw, I thought that as an ’80s girl you would have gone with Bananarama.
