Also, for some reason, the puppies have decided that the BEST time to play is on top of me as I try to fall asleep. I had to grab them both by the collar and hold them in place as I went to sleep last night.
I’m sitting here chuckling about the fact that GEG6 is seeing this beautiful angelic puppy in all the pictures, and HAS NO FRIGGING IDEA that I am unleashing an energy bomb in her household. Heh.

Where are the pictures? Please. Not that I don’t believe you. But I NEED photos, please.

My lovely late mother in law got a puppy once after years of adult pets. “Lord, puppies are such airheads!” was her frequent refrain. It’s always true, too.
JPL
Well she sure does now, but you have given her a few hints before, also.
Sorry that you are ailing.
raven
@JPL: Cole is the one that never seems to have had a puppy before.

Because Böhner’s stunt with Bibi worked out so well, Mitch McConnell decides he’ll have a go himself. In some countries, undermining the national leader like this is considered treason. Just saying.

Re: sinus infections – have you tried a neti pot? Sterile water, appropriate saline/bicarb addition, a bit warmer than comfortable, a bit more saline than comfortable. Might need to work up to the temp/hyperosmotic deal. Use a decongestant spray (e.g. Afrin) about a half-hour before.
A lot of people hate the very idea of using a neti pot, but it can be magic.
I am not a physician, only a lowly veterinarian, and am only speaking from experience, not as a medical adviser.
Mike E
@ixnay: Sinus infection + air travel = “Sure, irrigate my head, what else do I have to lose?” One of the worst trips ever, and I wish I had used a neti pot…it was a wildlife advocacy junket to Congress, so, oh well, no pleasure was missed because of my miserable condition.

You haven’t met Koda. If I can handle her, I can handle anything.
And these people with their neti pot fetishes? I’ve had sinus and allergy problems for years. No doctor has ever advised the use of one and my current ENT guy gets apoplectic at the mention of them. He says there are way more cons than pros for them. They get rid of good mucus along with the small amount of bad they clear. Most people don’t use the required distilled water in them. Most people don’t clean them properly and don’t toss them every three months as recommended. He HATES neti pots. And I have no desire to try them anyway. ClaritinD works fine for me. No cleaning needed, no risk of infection and no disgusting pouring water in one side of my nose and letting it run out the other. I have no idea why people love this so much. Disgusting.

@raven: I don’t believe he has. He got Lily from the pound as an adult, and Rosie was an adult when he found her.
The Lord made puppies, kittens, and toddlers cute because he knew that otherwise the 3 species would become instinct as the adults strangled all the puppies, kittens, and toddlers.

I feel very lucky that my three are all grown and no one was ever arrested or badly injured. (Well, except for that one Minor in Possession charge and the midnight arrest for peeing on a tree in the middle of a college campus.) But, other than those incidents, we are good.

I had a terrible sinus infection last year. Someone recommended Xlear to me. It’s a xylitol-based sinus spray. Not steroid so you can use it frequently. Turns out a lot of sinus problems are fungal related, not bacterial like people usually think. The xylitol attacks the fungus somehow, or maybe it attacks the biofilm in which the fungus or bacteria are hiding, but you have to use it like every half an hour. it worked for me last year and worked again for me this year.
Betty Cracker
@WaterGirl: We’ve dashed her hopes of a quick escape from Florida by enrolling her in a pre-paid program — she has to go to a state school now, muhahahaha! But she does plan on exiting the family home ASAP, and I can’t really blame the poor thing. I had my bags packed when I was her age too.
WaterGirl
@Betty Cracker: i knew you’d have a plan!
Yep. It’s their job at that age to learn to separate. I wonder if she knows just how lucky she is to have you as her mom. I’m guessing she does.

Here also. Everyone in my family took off to distant places for college. I think the closest any of us came to staying home still involved a drive of just under 1000 miles. It’s hard to grow up into an independent adult if you’re still staying in your parents’ home.

Interestingly i started do the nasal irrigation drill just recently and saw a doc this weekend for breathing distress from a bad cold.

my allergist, however, has recommended it so i’m gonna just ignore the doc-in-a-box.

Mr. Cole, puppies have energy! Please, take them out on leashes for a spell and they will sleep better, I promise.

While John struggles to contain the pups, his cat has gone online in the thread below to troll us. Get your household under control, man!
Pogonip
@lymie: I suggested confining and controlling the pups. Maybe he thinks grabbing their collars as they romp all over his supine body IS controlling.
Puppies are no problem at night if you’re not Cole. The problem is kittens. Your choice is between the pounce-on-owner’s-feet-all-night game, or shutting the little fiend out of the room and wondering what destruction will greet you in the morning.
Pogonip
Hey, what happened to the other person who had to shave the cat’s ass? Did he (the owner) survive?
ixnay
@p.a.: I don’t keep track of where I post; been lurking for a long time. Other people have been discussing neti pots? And it seems like a lot of work to check the archives. ;-)
WaterGirl
@Pogonip: I’m not sure the owner will survive the exorbitant price she/he was going to be charged for the ass-shaving service.
Pogonip
@muddy: Steve’s been itching to get back at Cole ever since that unfortunate shaving episode.
Pogonip
@muddy: Wait till the dogs start typing.
germy shoemangler
Now if a tom cat walks in to the ass-shaving place and requests a trim, and the proprietor replies “Yes, immediately!” But then another tom cat walks in wearing a pink collar and requests the same ass-shave, and the proprietor shakes his head solemnly and points to a fish symbol on the door…. that’s discrimination.

And, John, I do truly sympathize with your sinus infection. Few things worse than that sloshing/painful sensation when you move your head. Hope somethings works soon.

John,
if you want to clear up your sinus infection, try using an Erythritol (a sweet sugar that has a very tiny caloric value; similar to Violet’s xylitol suggestion, which also is said to work in a similar manner – I’d thick either is a good choice) solution to clean your sinuses – as a “rinse” it will clean and kill most bacteria and fungi (they cannot process this sugar so it kills them – or so the claim is made.) Worth a try – can order it online or make your own. Then take vitamin D (3000 IU) every day and after four months, not only will your chances for sinus infections go down, but you will reduce your chances of getting a cold. Scientifically proven for Vit D relative to cold reduction and help against bacteria infection. Erythritol appears to help some people (helped me) but has not been scientifically tested so is hit or miss …
