I’m thrilled that Beth S. has once again graciously volunteered to assemble this year’s Balloon Juice Pet Calendar. Here’s her message:
okay, fourth time’s the charm to get this thing done in time for maybe thanksgiving and definitely beginning of december.
the usual rules apply: you have a pet (or six) and you send me a photo (or six) and your pet(s) makes an appearance in the 2015 pets of balloon juice calendar. tell me his/her/its name and i will put it on their photo. the highest resolution photo you can provide is best. i accept the usual photo formats. any questions, don’t hesitate to send me an email.
send photos here: [email protected]
Deadline for photo submission is Saturday, November 8 — so you have three weekends to snap some new photos if you decide you don’t like the ones you have on hand. Any questions, post a comment, or email me (click on my name in the right-hand column, or annelaurie (at) verizon (dot) net). All pets welcome (if you look at previous calandars, we’ve had rabbits, ferrets, horses, turtles, at least one iguana… )

Hmm. Corgi, two hamsters, and three bunnies. I wonder if I can pile them all up?

Thank you Beth!
Tommy
I love my wonderful pootie. But think I might need to head to my brother’s place and take a few pics of Murphy. He is a stunning Labradoodle and as you can see from the below pic, my nieces best friend.

@Tommy – Murphy looks adorable!
Off topic, but I may have found an article worth Anne Laurie’s consideration for the next “long read” post.
The Future Of The Culture Wars Is Here, And It’s Gamergate
Josie
@? Martin: How do you get your Corgi to stay still in the pile? It must involve food in some form.
Omnes Omnibus
@Josie: Ball gag and restraints. I’m sure Martin just happens to have some around.
Tommy
@VFX Lurker: Your URL added to Pocket for future reading. The sexism in the gaming industry is so over-the-top I don’t have words for it.
I follow this site, Stellar Interesting. It is just an aggregation of uber geeks Tweets, pics, and videos. Following the Tweets of this lady. A gamer programmer. Her experience at this huge gaming conference last week where she made it a goal of hers to point out the sexism in the industry.
OMG what a shit storm she ran into.

Deleted. I’ll try again.

Speaking of pet pics, Iggy wants your vote.
WaterGirl
@Karen in GA: You must have been completely panicked when Iggy had his middle-of-the-night breathing issue.
I have been at the emergency vet – a nightmare that I will not soon forget – so I was really grateful when I saw that all was well and that all it cost was some serious cash. Iggy > cash
P.S I have a crush on Iggy.
Tommy
@Karen in GA: Normally I am not a “small” dog kind of guy. I mean if you are going to get a dog, get a large dog. But I clicked through on your site to a few more pics and Iggy is one handsome (insert cute) dog.

The pic for this post is a nice start. Will there be a memorial TunchPic this year?
WaterGirl
Chloe is adorable! If she was a shelter dog, I’ll bet she lasted about 45 seconds before she was snapped up.
WaterGirl
@jl: I’d love to see Tunch on the cover.
MomSense
@Karen in GA:
Voted! Iggy is adorable.
@Tommy:
Awww, very sweet.
Tommy
@WaterGirl: Yeah me to.
Karen in GA
@WaterGirl: I’m slowly but surely turning into Parker Posey from Best in Show. It’s upsetting, to say the least.
@Tommy: It’s the eyebrows. Makes him very expressive. That and he’s got the greatest dog ears in the universe as far as I’m concerned.
@MomSense: Thank you!
Tommy
@MomSense: I am a cat owner. Not a dog guy. I want a dog, but just not pulled the trigger. My parents and I were not sure if a large dog, baby, would be a good idea.
Murphy likes me a lot. I run with him. My brother and his wife never take him out of the yard. He seemed to know that Katie was an infant. A child.
He runs and jumps on me. Never Katie.
Karen in GA
@Tommy: That’s great. Murphy and niece are adorable.
WaterGirl
@Karen in GA: I haven’t seen the movie, but I’m guessing from the context of what you said that she is a bit neurotic and worries about her dog?
Edit: I’m sure i would be hyper vigilant if any of my guys were going through this heart worm treatment.
Violet
@Karen in GA: I adore that movie. I think it’s Christopher Guest’s best as a director.
@WaterGirl: It’s hilarious. Worth watching for sure.
MomSense
@Tommy:
I’m still grieving the loss of my old lab. If you spend a lot of time with them and give them love and exercise–they are the best companion dogs. I can’t tell you how many kids, cats, other dogs, and elderly friends and relatives took naps or just sat with him and passed the time. When he and my kids were puppies together they played and ran all around farms, fields, woods, and beaches together. We used to take him hiking up mountains.
They do really good profiles now of different breeds and whether they are suitable for your lifestyle. For us, a big yet mellow dog who could swim, hike, run and be gentle with babies and elders was perfect.

@Karen in GA: Iggy got my vote!

@WaterGirl:
Ha, yeah, just a bit.
@skerry: Thanks!

@Karen in GA: @Karen in GA: She’s better in Waiting for Guffman.

Huzzah!

Weeelll, since it’s a pets thread. Bixby came to a meeting today and was surprised he could no longer sleep in his designated chair.
Huh, I used to fit here.
TaMara (BHF)
And I’m a sucker for black and white dogs, so Joy’s Chloe has stolen my heart.

@Karen in GA: I am so glad to hear the Iggy is doing well. I voted! He’s so adorable.
SiubhanDuinne
@WaterGirl:
I think Tunch should have a permanent spot on the calendar cover. He is our Overlord, our Avatar, a Big Cat with Big Wings, and besides, all your base are belong to Tunch.
SiubhanDuinne
@WaterGirl:
Best in Show is seriously one of the funniest, wackiest movies ever made. I stumbled across it midway through by accident once, years ago — had never heard of it — and for several very confused moments thought I was actually watching the WKC or similar, except nothing about it seemed quite right :-)

My cat and dog were just wondering about which picture they could have in the BJ calendar!
Thanks Beth, for doing it again.
Joy
@WaterGirl: Chloe was a shelter dog. The minute I saw her, I knew she was mine. Her back was up against the gate of her pen and I swear her head turned 180 degrees as I walked past. I stopped went back and just gazed into her eyes. It was love at first sight. She is now the matriarch of two other dogs and keeps the boys in line. She is a sweetie!
@Beth Thanks again for doing this. You do a great job and it’s for a worthy cause. Kudos to you!
