Watch Laura Ingraham practically throw a chair over Democrats organizing black voters. Gerrymandering gives Republicans thin margins by design so it goes to hell when turnout patterns change. Go change them.

I’d pay to watch her throw herself – off a tall building
Poopyman
If you’d said “watch Laura Ingraham have a stroke”, that maybe I’d watch.
vtr
Then, the camera pans over to Chevy Chase, who says, “Laura, you ignorant slut…”
Hal
So I guess O’Reilly went back on vacation after returning to record a segment on Ferguson and how that incident had zero to do with race, and how dems are the real racists. Almost as clueless as Sean Hannity saying when he gets pulled over by the cops, he steps out of the car and lifts his shirt up to show them his totally legal firearm. No big deal!
bad dad
Dan Aykroyd was “Jane, you ignorant slut.” Now turn down you hippy-hoppy and get off my lawn.
Mr Stagger Lee
The image of that voter registration tent on the spot where Michael Brown died, has the Repuliklans totally freaked out. Bravo whoever thought that up.

@bad dad:
You beat me to it!
Probably listening to that Public Enema or whatever.
Gene108
@Baud:
I watched the video. It is a perfect example of the right-wing usage of doublethink.
Democrats are the real racists for trying to use the murder of Michael Brown to scare the Negroes into voting for them.
Democrat(ic) policies have not helped the Negro, but they are still trying to get Negroes to vote for them because of playing to the Negro’s (misplaced) racial fears of the (conservative) white man.
Amazing bit of propaganda and condensation rolled into one.

OT but delicious: Scalia once called lethal injection ‘enviable’ for death row inmate cleared by DNA evidence
I wish Dog would just go ahead and enforce Scalia’s death sentence.
Patrick
@OzarkHillbilly:
From the link:
Scalia is a strong supporter of capital punishment – although the Catholic Church to which he’s an adherent has found the death penalty violates biblical teachings – and has argued that no innocent person had recently been executed.
“It should be noted at the outset that the dissent does not discuss a single case — not one — in which it is clear that a person was executed for a crime he did not commit,” Scalia wrote in a 2006 opinion. “If such an event had occurred in recent years, we would not have to hunt for it; the innocent’s name would be shouted from the rooftops by the abolition lobby.”

@Gene108: If someone had told me in the mid-’80s that thirty years hence I’d still be hearing from this brash, pig-ignorant Dartmouth kid, there’s no telling what I might have done.
Stuck my head in the oven, maybe.

What a horrible woman. THey play the clip of Congressman Lewis which is entirely reasonable. They she adds that “punish your enemies” thing. Fuck off, insane woman.
Voting is … um … voting! Removing shitheads like Mayor James Knowles III is not to punish them, it’s to hold them accountable.
Of course, in IOKIYAR America, any little bit of accountability can look like severe punishment. Oh, noes, he’ll have to find a jerb. Maybe in the private sector. Horrors.

These people are not clueless. They are cold, calculating propagandists who are clear on their goals and intent as they lie out their pie holes 24/7.
Shakezula
And still more reasons that I laugh real hard when people say there’s no difference between the two parties.
I’d watch Ingram pull a Bobby Knight if it hit Geraldo on the beezer.
Thunderbird
@Shakezula: I should learn to just laugh instead of tearing them a new one. Got into a big argument with a FB friend about that (private messages, no need to bring the mob in on this). Noticed after about a week I hadn’t seen any updates from him, checked my number of friends, and he was gone. *shrugs*

I’ve watched a few BillO versions of the “Talking Points” segment, and the delivery style has always fascinated me: He sounds like an exasperated vice principal addressing an audience of dim-witted juvenile delinquents. And I suppose in a sense, he is.
Ingraham channels the smug, sing-songy delivery very well. I wonder if that’s in her contract or if she undertook it on her own initiative.
OzarkHillbilly
@Patrick:
Scalia of all people should know better than to make a legal argument based on something that does not legally exist, a person is never found “innocent”, they are found “Not Guilty”. Also it is very interesting that at the time he wrote that opinion, Cameron Todd Willingham had been dead for 2 years, and he most certainly would never have been found guilty except for the voodoo “forensic science” used at his trial (which has since been thoroughly debunked) and the testimony of one jail house snitch who received preferential treatment in exchange for his testimony.
Was CTW innocent? We can never know (only Dog can know actual innocence), what we do know is that the state did not in any way, shape, or form, prove him “guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.”

@Belafon: W’s Iraq misadventure was a very expensive lesson, but it’s heartening to hear that Friedman isn’t too dumb to learn it.
Cervantes
@Betty Cracker: She’s been that way all along.
Cervantes
@Betty Cracker: To attack ISIS for what they are doing would be a very different thing from attacking Iraq for what Osama bin Laden did.
Bruuuuce
Only slightly on topic here, but always on topic at BJ: A great article (even if it is at Slate) about why truthiness is believable and leads to conservative beliefs.
Betty Cracker
@Cervantes: She’s been a smug wingnut hack all along, of course, but it seems like she mimics BillO’s speech patterns in that TP segment.
Belafon
@Cervantes: True, but overreacting really would lead to the same results.
Betty Cracker
@Cervantes: Duh. But getting involved in a land war in the Middle East is very similar to…getting involved in a land war in the Middle East.
Bex
Hey Laura, Jesus called. He wants his cross back.
Cervantes
@Betty Cracker: Not familiar with his speech patterns. Only too familiar with hers.
beth
What I’ve noticed that they’re really pushing lately is the whole “you came out and voted for Obama and your life didn’t get better so why even bother voting, okay?” slant. I’ve seen and heard it in quite a few places recently. They’re scared to death of minority voters.
...now I try to be amused
@Gene108: Most right-wing speech is right-wing projection.
Cervantes
@Betty Cracker:
So true.
Anyway, my point was that Friedman’s dictum (as quoted, at least) does not betray any understanding of how illegitimate the war was that he enthusiastically helped to start. His deepest thoughts about “strategy” are of absolutely no interest to me.
muddy
@beth: Yeah, why even bother to show up for your minimum wage job! Oh wait that’s not something you should get tired of.
Cervantes
@Belafon:
Sure, over-reacting, to anything, is, by definition, a bad idea — but figuring out what precisely to do about ISIS, if anything … this is a difficult problem.
FlipYrWhig
@beth: Remember when they used to say “elections have consequences”? Funny how things change based on whether you’re winning or losing said elections.
Citizen_X
@beth: That’s what gets me about that whole Ingraham segment. “Well, your Magic Negro didn’t fix everything for you, happy now?” It’s another iteration of Palin’s sneering, “How’s that hope and change working out for you?”
I mean, who knew that there were other branches and levels of government besides preznit?
raven
@Citizen_X: And I have friends fawning over fucking Professor West and his bullshit.
El Caganer
@Mr Stagger Lee: Did the cops have a dog pee on it?
catclub
@Cervantes:
The ‘if anything’ is important. Let them burn themselves out.
feebog
So registering people to vote and encouraging them to engage in civics is now an evil Democratic plot to take over the country? They are truly running scared.
El Caganer
@raven: Since you emphasized the ‘Professor,’ I’m assuming you mean blowhard Cornel West, not lunatic Allen West.
Helmut Monotreme
What America needs right now is a new odd couple starring Allen West and Cornel West, as long as someone could keep Allen West from committing more war crimes.
Linnaeus
If Ingraham doesn’t like the Democrats registering black voters, perhaps she could advocate for the Republicans to register black voters.
Ha. That was a good one, there.

@Patrick:
One of Scalia’s sons is a priest, therefor, he’s got an automatic E-Ticket into heaven. In Italian culture that’s true. I saw it on a Cheers episode once when Carla’s oldest boy was thinking of becoming a priest. She thought she could do anything evil she wanted and did, until, the boy decided the next day that his priest idea was sooo yesterday when he was attracted to a skirt walking by at the bar.

@Belafon:
So, how many Friedman units does it take for a Friedman to figure out the obvious?
chopper
@patrick II:
it’s friedman units all the way down.
Bokonon
@raven: My least favorite thing right now is looking at Facebook and reading my e-mail, and seeing previously reasonable friends posting and passing on Allen West’s screeching that Obama hasn’t done ANYTHING about ISIS. OMG! Freak out! Panic! Treason! Danger!
Um … Allen? The whole reason that ISIS is beheading American citizens is because we HAVE been doing something about them. We have been bombing the hell out of them, and using air power to drive them back. And they are ticked off. And they are testing our resolve with these televised murders, to see if we will get intimidated and fall back (the way that some of our European allies might).
Bitter Scribe
@vtr: You mean Dan Aykroyd.
Bitter Scribe
I love how steam comes out of their ears at the very thought of THOSE people voting. And you’re right about the thin gerrymandered margins. Go get ’em.
TooManyJens
@Citizen_X:
What Ingraham is completely ignoring is that the current voting push has nothing whatsoever to do with the President; it’s about city government in Ferguson, which is dominated by whites even though almost 2/3 of the residents are black. Oh, but it’s so divisive to say that Those People should have a voice in how their own city is run.
Frankensteinbeck
Sun Pony damn. I watched about half of that video. I couldn’t get farther. The woman reeks of evil. Malice. Arrogance. Everything she says carries the strong implication that blacks are inferior and Democrats are weak. The tone of voice she uses to deliver this message is smug, like she’s laughing at how pathetic black people are. If that’s not evil, I don’t know what is.
catclub
@Frankensteinbeck:
While TPM notes a different Fox anchor is wailing “DO SOMETHING” at the President.
I will also note that she says his job is to protect us. But the oath he swore is to defend the constitution.
jayjaybear
Why is it that these right-wing “opinion leaders” always get angry, angry, angry but never get angry enough to do something useful like stroke out or go into fatal cardiac arrest? Looks like insufficient commitment to the cause to me…
Mnemosyne
@Bokonon:
You know, I know that the Obama haters on all sides of the spectrum love to claim that he’s weak, indecisive, etc. etc., but if I were ISIS, I would not be pissing Obama off. Because he’s not the guy who’s going to bomb you from above if you make him mad — he’s the guy who’s likely to send in special forces to personally shoot you in the head.
The Other Chuck
@chopper:
No, it’s Friedman Units for the next couple miles, tops.
StringOnAStick
ISIS is so obviously trying to get us to do, again, what Osama got us to do: step totally into the shit with a war that will piss off (again) every local resident of the Middle East. They just aren’t as clever about it since they are openly twittering things that are the equivalent of “hey Obama! Watch this!”; Osama BL knew that a bloody punch in the nose on US territory would get that exact response, he didn’t have to telegraph his plan. Of course, all the Fox pants-pissers are falling for it because in Foxland, bombing without boots on ground is going to work this time, honest!
I read some of the Presidents comments from that political get together last weekend, and I swear it is the most rational thing I’ve heard anyone say about the ME in a long, long time. The way to defeat ISIS is to get a functional civil government that works for all citizens in place and operating; Maliki blew it by doing so only for his sect, not for the entire Iraqi citizenry. Extremism thrives where there is no functional government. Hell, ISIS has walked in and taken over those functions, even directing traffic.
Taking the “bomb them back to the stone age” approach destroys any functional government and leaves a vacuum sure to be filled by types like ISIS, and yet every Fox bobblehead is going nuts on the “DO SOMETHING, BOMB THEM!” front. Like the last fucking time we did that didn’t directly lead to exactly where we are right now. I am so, so done with these a-historical, pants-crapping-in-fear wingers.

@Citizen_X:
There aren’t. There’s only the pResident, and the two rubber stamps. And then there’s the Power Behind The Throne: for Shrub it was Kenny Boy – and for the next Teahadist, dollars to doughnuts it’ll be Adelson and the Kochs (sidenote: interesting, no, that the Reichwing is backed by people who take your money to make you sick and poor, and call that behavior Responsible Business Practices?)
@FlipYrWhig: “Elections have consequences” is dogwhistle for “now that the Illegals and Browns and Queers and Wimmins have had their stab at running the place, it’s back to the
straight white Xtian malesResponsible Peoplegetting the hookers and blowtaking care of things properly.” It’s rubbing in everyone else’s face that these volk rigged the process and think they own the entire country (and about 40% of the populace) because Entitled....now I try to be amused
@Citizen_X:
The GOP knows; they control most of it. They want the low-information voters to not know it.
boatboy_srq
@StringOnAStick: Half the reason AQ was so successful was that they had a manchild in the WH with a chip already on his shoulder who’d react exactly the way they wanted. You’ll notice that 9/11 didn’t happen in 1993-2000: I suspect part of the reason why was that Clinton wouldn’t have gone all Urban II on them the way Shrub did.
Gravenstone
@Belafon: Does Tommy Mustache have no memory of how he overreacted to 9/11?
