What Could Possibly Go Wrong? Border Cosplay Edition

Via TPM:

A border patrol agent fired several shots at an armed militia member while chasing a group of immigrants Friday near Brownsville, Texas…

the man was wearing camouflage and was carrying either a rifle or shotgun.

The self appointed guardian of the galaxy was lucky — the border patrol officer (like most people) was no Dead-eye Dick, and our last line of defense from the Ebola-carrying and Mooslim terrorist hordes of twelve year olds crossing our southern border was unhurt.  But, as we say in the portending business, It’s Only A Matter Of Time.

The shorter:

The sheriff said militias really aren’t needed at the Texas-Mexico border given the number of law enforcement agencies already working to secure the area.

“It just creates a problem from my point of view, because we don’t know who they are,” Lucio told the AP.

This has been another episode of Listen To The Man.

Kind of reminds me of Purgatory as seen in the last couple seasons of “Supernatural.”, except it’s hotter and drier than Canada.

So, *should* the official Border Patrol agents be shooting at scary armed dudes in cammo standing on private land near the border, or should they be trying to apprehend and check IDs? Or just let them go?

I’d like to hear some RWNJ clarify this subtle point.

Border patrol agents are understandably a bit jumpy these days, as it is difficult to tell who is a coyote and who is a drug smuggler. Since the cartels are now involved in both undertakings, many coyotes and smugglers are armed and willing to shoot. My oldest son chose to become a trucker instead of a border patrol agent because the second choice was becoming a truly dangerous one. These militia people may be setting themselves up for some bad experiences.

Really. I mean, I’m assuming he’s white. Shoot first so you don’t have to ask questions later is supposed to be applied differently in this country, innit?

Clearly this patriot’s only mistake was in forgetting to wear his official “GOOD GUY WITH A GUN” badge to let officers know he wasn’t a random psycho or an armed cartel member wandering around the border.

All kidding aside, if I were a smart man, I’d be printing up those T-shirts, hats, and badges right now. There’s probably a lot of money to be fleeced, er, made from these wannabe ‘heroes’.

@RaflW: Well, he did stop after only four rounds instead of emptying his clip.

I have to wonder what would happen if a militia member did get himself shot, thanks to his own recklessness. Would we see a right-wing version of the Ferguson protests?

@RaflW: It’s quite sunny down near the border. He might have acquired a tan.

But they’re white! Can’t the Border Patrol guys see that? You don’t shoot at the white guys!

Shouts of “Kenyan Socialist Atheist Muslim Wall Street Coddling Statist Oppression” would accompany news of any request for an ID, along with sneering references to “Papers, Please”. Visually, there would be a lot of Gadsden flags.

A Border Patrol shoot of a shit drawling, tobacco spitting Real American will bring out the long guns, assault rifles and Barrett’s .50 cal rifles.

@Amir Khalid: It would be Obama’s fault. Even if, or especially if the shooter is a Perry-installed National Guardsman.

@RaflW: Make that a Perry-installed unpaid National Guardsman. Hey, Rick is too busy going to Iowa and NH these days.

Your point of view is shared by many, many others, Sheriff Lucio.

What could possibly go wrong when law enforcement doesn’t know who the militia members are, the militia members don’t know what they are doing and they are all carrying guns?!?!
