First day back at work after two weeks off: 147 e-mails despite the “Out of Office” notice.
It’s also the first day of school for the 347,000 plus students in Miami-Dade County. Best wishes to the kids, parents, staff, and especially the teachers.
In my more macabre moments, I’ve thought about doing a Out of Office that said “Baud has passed away and will not have access to email.”
Maybe when I get closer to retirement… or quitting.

@Mustang Bobby: I once was working on a project for an attorney who wanted a contact number for me while I was on vacation. This was back in 1989 when most folk didn’t have cell phones, so I gave him my fiance’s brother’s phone number. I was visiting my future in-laws in Korea. No one spoke English there. I found out after my return that he had drafted one of his paralegals, she’s Korean, to translate. She was quite relieved that a call never needed to be placed, since her Korean was pretty much toddler level of proficiency.
I’m sitting here having my coffee and sulking because I have to go into work today on what was supposed to be my day off. It’s just gotten so frustrating, I may end up working six days this week at a job that puts me farther behind financially and leaves me little time to do my other jobs. But someone has a family funeral to go to, and that’s important. So I need to get over my plans for the day being derailed.
Less than 2 months after the state’s guns-everywhere law passed, an accidental shooting out on the streets of the tourist town of Helen has killed a woman visiting from Texas. Nobody could have anticipated, etc. etc. etc.
So who was it? Someone notable? I’d like to know who I should not consider credible.

Anyone else aware that police in Ferguson have not been wearing name tags or they have them turned around so that one cannot see their name or badge number.
I guess do that if/when they “control the crowd” too excessively that no one can know their names.
Funny that, as a hospital employee, I’m required to wear my badge at all times even if I’m at lunch or break. So that patients know that I work there and can ask for aide if need be. But I guess PD doesn’t need to worry about that.
@Botsplainer: Didn’t like the element of, uh, uncertainty it introduced into my life. Fortunately I have a sphincter that can snap a broomstick like a twig.

@Belafon: Is it even legal for them to cover up/take off their name tags? Isn’t that akin to driving around without a license plate? How can police be held accountable if they’re not wea….oh, I think I understand the rationale all of a sudden.
My take. The Ferguson police chief watched the church rally for Michael Brown, with all of the speeches from activists. All of the people coming together. The plans to change conditions in Ferguson. Townspeople cleaning up again today, like they were going to make it through this, and get stronger together. So, the chief decided to “take back” his town tonight, pre-curfew. One last one for the gipper, so to speak. Surely tomorrow the governor will send in the MO National Guard … because the outrage over tonight will be long-reaching and is already palpable. It’s my guess the chief wanted to take a stand and has the prosecutor behind him.
@peach flavored shampoo: IMHO if you were tasked with writing a screen play of how much a police department could mess up a situation I don’t envision it would be as bad as the reality of what is actually happening.
