I love stuff like this when it happens to Republicans:
The Tea Party-backed candidate who has refused to concede defeat to Republican U.S. Senator Thad Cochran in Mississippi’s primary runoff said his campaign has found more than 1,000 instances of ballots cast by people who were ineligible to vote.
Chris McDaniel said his supporters continue to look for evidence of voters who participated in the state’s Democratic primary on June 3 and then voted in the Republican runoff primary on Tuesday, which would not be permitted by Mississippi law.
“We’ve already found more than 1,000 examples of that in one county alone,” McDaniel said in an interview Thursday night on Fox News’ Hannity show. “We’re talking about widespread irregularities, ineligible voters that should not have been there in the first place.”
In a bitterly fought contest, Cochran edged McDaniel by fewer than 7,000 votes out of more than 370,000 cast – a dramatic increase over the 313,000 votes cast in the earlier primary election.
McDaniel has not announced an official challenge to the results. His spokesman, Noel Fritsch, said on Friday that about half of the state’s circuit clerks had not supplied the election data requested by the campaign.
“Despite this lack of cooperation, our preliminary findings certainly indicate that a thorough examination is warranted, after which we will make a determination about legal recourse,” Fritsch said in an email.
I’m starting to think the more extreme of the teahdists actually hate Republicans more than they hate liberals.

I want to know, because most of it is the product of irrational disturbed thinking.
I’ve had some of it explained to me.
For example, you have never gotten a job from a poor person and have only gotten jobs from (relatively) rich people. Therefore we must be highly deferential, in our public policy, to the wealthy or we will not get jobs anymore.
To think the rich could just get everything they need done in life, without anyone else in the world has been discredited since the era of King Midas. Yet wing-nuts really do believe in all powerful benevolent “job creators”, who will withhold their
blessingsjobs from us, if we anger them.I’m sure there’s more irrational nonsense floating around in their heads.
I know I cannot persuade them otherwise, but at least I’d like to know what I’m doing, as a liberal, to destroy the world.

And yes, I have had discussions along these lines with folks trying to explain to them the difference between corporations and individual business owners and why a business would hire someone versus why and individual would hire someone to get work done.
They have been told – for a long time – by people they trust, at their churches, on the radio, etc. that the rich are some sort of alien race that bestows benefits on the rest of us. I have heard folks state that government exists because the business owners decided they needed a way order things and not because things need to be ordered, in order for someone to start a business.

Workers are what make the rich, richer. Full stop. Without all of us…. That’s what makes unions work. That’s what makes strikes work and is why rich fuckers are so against both. An orderly, subservient workforce can be used and abused financially, of course making rich fuckers more money. But no workforce makes them no money.
And if there were no workers then there wouldn’t even be a financial market to manipulate therefore depriving the rich of any profit. They need us for profit. Full stop. Unfortunately we need them to eat and have a roof over our heads.

I thought Tolkien also based his Elvish languages, in part, on Welsh – or the Celtic phonology in general.: he thought of them. IIRC, as a sort of analogue to the pre-English languages of Britain: superseded tongues spoken only at the fringes of “normal” realms, but still alive in some sense.
Though I must say I was quite disappointed to head a recording once of Tolkien reciting one of his Elvish poems: maybe they would sound better from the music-voiced immortal Noldor, but when old JRR spoke it, it sounded oddly guttural and vaguely Slavic.

Given that they were contemporaries, and that Sibelius was one of the most famous composers of his day, he probably couldn’t have avoided hearing Sibelius even if he’d wanted to. And according to this hearsay, Sibelius was his favorite composer. Certainly I’d have guessed he would at least have liked Sibelius; he was enough of a traditionalist I’d expect him to like tonal classical music; and I’d expect him to like contemporaries. That leaves not too many choices, and Sibelius’ music seems more Tolkeinesque than the alternatives like Rachmaninoff, Elgar, and Ravel.

Yeah, ANOTHER thumbs up for goat simulator. It’s like someone had a little too much fun with garrys mod. The best part? They modeled the curvature of the earth for some of your physics hijinx.
Cervantes
@Fair Economist: Yes, he did like Sibelius well enough. He also liked the music of Carl Maria von Weber. In his younger days he enjoyed Wagner.
And opera, generally.

@Cervantes:
I don’t know if you ever encountered the work of Michael Scott Rohan, but he also has a lot of Finnish influence in his Winter of the World novels.
I am glad to learn Tolkien enjoyed Sibelius – it felt like a natural fit to me, but I never got around to confirming it.

@Baud:
Has always been thus. Democrats don’t peer into the inner workings of Republicans much – more lately – but even silly shit like this has been done like a blood feud.
I’ve been telling Democrats for years, how can you negotiate with people who eat their own clan gleefully? Answer: You don’t. They aren’t going to compromise with you after they knee cap, back stab, and screw their own. Michelle’s whitey tape accusations? Not half as bad as McCain’s black baby.

I wonder, sometimes, about the guy on CNBC who named the teaparty after his rant on taxes went viral. Do they blame him for the uproar – Wall Street loved them at first but lately, not so much. Of course, the Kochs stepped in and funded their “movement” but the dismay of Wall Street about how it is all turning out is so sweet.
