Random thought: if Republicans think that we should call a Select Committee whenever four Americans die in a Middle Eastern hot zone due perhaps to insufficient security, why didn’t they call one for the four Americans who were burned and their bodies displayed in Fallujah?
If Republicans think that we should call a Select Committee whenever an Administration puts out faulty information in the immediate aftermath of a chaotic battle, where was the Committee to investigate the Pat Tillman story? Or Jessica Lynch?
I’m sure there must be a valid, intellectually consistent, non-partisan answer.

@the Conster: I don’t think it’s directed at Barack. If anything it’s an old frustration from Chicago where so many schoolchildren become victims of violence, neglect, or a callous mayor closing their schools, to Nigeria where the central gov’t has been in denial, tried to punish the victims’ parents for speaking out, and had refused international assistance during the early days of the crisis.
I’m with Michelle. I thought she looked tired at first, but it’s not tired, it’s weary, because as she said, this is no isolated incident.

@MikeJ: You’re right; I should have asked “Why didn’t they instigate hearings on Pat Tillman?” etc.
It took about 18 months for them to convene the Special Committee on Bengazi. The Lynch incident happened in 2003 and Tillman in 2004. They had time before, as you point out, the Democrats took over and had the hearings.

@TG Chicago: Truth had to die on the altar of their civic religion.
On a smallier and thus easier to laugh at scale, Pam Bondi, our absolutely incompetent ideologue AG in Florida, was literally in tears talking about the sacrifice of Florida law enforcement officers. That so many of them die on the highways at traffic stops every year because her party shut down intercity rail not once, but twice, is trying to increase the speed limits on highways, and won’t subsidize intercity bus service (which has experienced all but market failure since deregulation), was completely lost on her. And let’s not even get into her stance on SYG and gun control, the other bull gator in the swimming pool when we’re talking about Florida LEO mortality.

Michelle Obama is extraordinary in her own right. As a couple and as a family, they are incredible. I think it took a while for the Nigerian government to approve US help with finding the abducted school girls.
@WereBear: I agree with WereBear here. I see no reason to accuse the President of having less concern than the First Lady–or any parent–for the fate of these girls. And I also think the imputation that she needs to resort to some kind of lysistrata like “sex strike” to “get her way” is just creepy and insulting to both the President and First Lady and of course to normal people. Really–wives don’t have to threaten to “send their husbands” to the dog house over political issues. They are often even political actors themselves, incredibly enough.

I love how absolutely adamant Michelle O is about this atrocity and how passionate she is about all girls everywhere getting an education. And I really hope those girls are freed. Also, if you ever get the chance to see Michelle speak in person do so, she may actually be a better speaker than her husband, though I’ve never seen him in person.
ETA: amen to what WearBear and Aimai said about the President. I don’t think he needed any coaxing or threats to want to act on behalf of those girls.
Or it might be that he asked her to do everything she could to help him with a cause they both care a great deal about. Remember, this is the president who said:
“If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”
Why drag fantasies about their sex life into this matter?
I have to say, I wish Michelle Obama wanted to run for office. I think she’s a stellar human being and exactly the sort of person who should be entrusted with power by the people.
@TG Chicago:
In a demented way, there is. Republican presidents, and Bush Lite in particular, observe all of the correct posturing that these people sincerely believe is patriotism and foreign policy that serves and strengthens American positions. They are childish bullies to believe it, but they do believe it. Obama consistently speaks with respect about the international community and judges military action based on sober thought. Taken with his being black and having a funny name, these are the traits of of the kind of weak, traitorous hippy who actively wants to sabotage America’s greatness. In this context, what we see as failures of Republican presidents they see as noble sacrifices or displays of strength. Benghazi, on the other hand – well, when Americans in Obama’s command die and he does not immediately pledge to destroy all Muslims in response, that’s an outrage right there and probable cause to dig around in case he deliberately let those people die.
It is the view from inside their own ass, but it is the clear and consistent view from inside their own ass.

Obama is the father of two girls. I’d guess that the father part of him wishes he could send in the 101st Airborne. The President part of him knows he can’t. No wonder he’s getting gray hair.
For the record (It’s been nagging me since last night), there’s plenty to attend closer to home in classrooms too. Nowhere near the scale of Nigeria, but the seeming involvement of the school officials themselves — and repeated variations on the theme no less — gets brownie points.
Don’t miss the other shenanigans right at the bottom, plus the pattern of just who was disciplined in the middle. For once though, football does not seem to the motivation.

@Morzer: I agree with that 100%. She would make a most excellent politician. But Dear Lord do I understand he desire to not ever get into the political arena herself, especially after seeing what her husband has had to endure all these years.
Well, Newsmax’s “headline” is the usual bullshit – but it has been a minor meme in the right-wing media for a week or so now that Hillary Clinton has some sort of “responsibility” for the Nigerian kidnappings, since, supposedly, the State Department, during her tenure as SoS, was lax/tardy in officially labeling Boko Haram as a “terrorist group”, even after their first serious attack in 2011. Of course, few, if any, of the wingers bother to articulate just what, exactly, “we” might have been able to actually do about the situation: IIRC, it was the Nigerian government who have been trying to dismiss or wave away the Boko Haram threat for years, and without local cooperation on the ground there’s squat-all the US (or any other outside force) can creditably do: but then, when there’s a opportunity for Hillary-bashing, there is also a seemingly unlimited supply of jackals ready to howl. And as the Benghazi circus proves, any connection to reality is purely optional….
