I support Clinton because I don’t Benghazi! to ever end.
srv
The answer is yes.
Someone needs to come up with an interpretive dance for Benghazi, explaining whatever the current conspiracy theory is.
Chris
A distraction to take our eyes off of the TRUE greatest scandal of all time, IRSgate.
beth
If I could have any more children I’d name them all Benghazi. Just so we never forget.

Looking forward to the operetta.

This is how I visualize Benghazi :You put a bone in Lindsay graham,Rand Paul,Ted Cruz and Darrell issa’s noses(like the teabaggers do w/Obama)and stick them in some ethnic costume with some elephant theme and have them standing behind a human sacrifice Hillary Clinton, with them chanting “Benghazi,Benghazi”

I think the word you’re looking for is Archetypal.

It should be a scandal that the 200+ girls kidnapped and allegedly sold into marriage in Nigeria isn’t getting the big coverage it deserves.
But hey, let’s talk about Benghazi some more.
The U.S. has offered to help Nigeria in hunt for 200 girls abducted by Islamist militants

@srv:
I would buy tickets to see that.

I wonder if Ben Gazzara is sick of hearing about the whole thing yet.
Crap. He died in 2012.
RIP. Bonus points if you know his real first name.

Figure out a way it’s Obama’s fault and it will.

Benghazi is a scandal because it is scandalous. It is scandalous because it is a scandal.
Glad I could clear that up for you.
Chris
@different-church-lady:
“The liberal, politically correct media won’t report it because they’re afraid of making Muslims look bad.”
There ya go.
Keith
It’s Mister.
Suffern ACE
@different-church-lady: we just have to start a rumor that there’s a memo to the militants authorizing it with the line “I understand where you’re coming from. I don’t like educated women either, which is why I chose Sidwell Friends.” Enough in there to get some hackles up.
Brian R.
That’s my favorite thing to do — anytime a conservative screams about Benghazi, ask them to explain just what was different about it from all the embassy attacks we had under Bush.
It usually results in silent seething.

@lamh36:
The pic accompanying the article is so sad.

Well, according to Newsmax,
Issa: Obama’s Benghazi Spin ‘Nixonian’
Scarborough: WH ‘Lying’ About Benghazi Email
So, clearly paragons of objectivity Darrell Issa and Joe Scarborough believe “worst scandal ever”.
Mayken
@lamh36: I wish our “liberal” media would stop using the words “bride” “marriage” and “husband” in regard to this crime. These girls were kidnapped into sex slavery.
different-church-lady
@lamh36: Somehow that link is not only opening a window to the article intended, but also another one to Facebook. So, nothing personal, but fuck whatever bug that is.

Why, of course, it’s the worst. It far exceeds Watergate, Teapot Dome, Credit Mobilier, Wounded Knee, the Trail of Tears, and slavery combined! Where’s your sense of proportion?

From a CNN story about GWB and his bike ride at his ranch for veterans:
Does anyone else find this whole thing obscene?

They are not going to be happy until they find of video of Obama humping Hillary while Benghazi burned.
They can’t get past their hatred of Obama. It could not possibly be just the normal screw ups and mistakes that happen all the time. It has to be some kind of treasonous act on the part of the mooslim/Nazi/communist/Kenyan n-clang.

@different-church-lady: damn sorry.

First comment at this driftglass post sums up Fox’s approach to Benghazi pretty much exactly:

Maybe next time he can spice things up with a few IEDs strewn along the course.

As long as it’s an open I’ll do something I very rarely do; recommend something for viewing. Netflix has a documentary titled “Voices from the Andes.” I’ts a beautifully photographed, moving film of images and interviews with the people currently living along the Great Inca Road. No voiceovers, no narration, just images and the people’s own words, subtitled. Stunning.

@Yurpean: Brilliant.

The scandal, libtards, is that Obama received a CIA briefing warning him that “terrorists are determined to strike inside Benghazi” which he ignored leading directly to the deaths of four Americans. Oh, wait…
Why project only your fears, biases and attitudes when you can project your greatest failures too
LAC
@Yurpean: bravo!!!!

If it comes down to a classy war between SciAm and Fox News, I wonder who will have more credibility with the American public — the 168 year old institution and journal of scientific progress that has featured such luminaries as Albert Einstein, or the 17.5 year old cable news channel that’s the home of Fox News Contributor Sarah Palin?
Because, you know, hashtag classy.

@lamh36: Ah. Tears. I can’t imagine how terrible it must be for them.
Bill E Pilgrim
True story: I just turned on CNN for the first time in a gazilion eons because I’m in a hotel and on Crossfire, Van Jones asked some Republican how the President looked “weak”, citing all the places he’s been the opposite of weak, saying he doesn’t seem weak to Al Quada, he doesn’t seem weak to Bin Laden, he doesn’t seem weak to Muammar Qaddifi, and so on. At the mention of Qaddafi the Republican’s eye’s lit up, while Jones was still asking the question, and when it was his turn to respond I’m pretty sure he just said that Qaddafi did too find Obama weak, and the proof of this is BENGHAZI. Which apparently Qaddafi was behind.
Bill E Pilgrim
@Yurpean: Hey I think I made that joke here some time ago. Can’t remember if it was here, I think so.
Bokonon
@Bill E Pilgrim: Although Qaddafi was dead at the time.
Things like that don’t necessarily slow down the GOP when forming new attack narratives, though …
Hungry Joe
Since this is an Open Thread, I’d like to say that it was 97.1 degrees in my back yard today. San Diego. On May 1. That’s hotter than it was in … let’s pick a place at random … Benghazi.
Hawes
Who could’ve predicted that when the GOP establishment handed Nixon the pearl handled revolver in the parlor, we would have to impeach every Democratic President for the next forty years to balance things out?
Bill E Pilgrim
@Bokonon: Exactly my point. But hey if a couple in Kenya in the 1960s can launch a massive plot requiring the complicity of state officials of Hawaii with the goal of getting their baby elected President decades later when he’s grown up, then Qaddafi can conspire to attack things when dead. Or put more simply: BENGHAZI! It’s the new black, among words. It replaces anything.
maya
Darrel Issa and his crack team should remove their investigation from the comfortable Republican smoking lounge in the HoR and actually GO to Bengazi. It would also be appropriate if they announce their plans to do so and what hotels they will be staying in when they’re not actually picking through the embassy rubble for clews. Make sure plenty of FOX News dignitaries (I know, oxymoran) are with them to report their findings.
Obama can offer the services of his elite Secret Service Berauscht Brigade for their security.

Sorry, R’s. For good or ill the American people don’t care about Benghazi. Get over it.

May 1st should henceforth be known as Benghazi Day, a new national holiday! But no proles will get a paid day off from their shitty jobs.

It’s never been a scandal. It is, however, a tragic event.

Benghazi’s just another word for nothing left to lose.
Waspuppet
There’s only one Benghazi-related coverup, and that consists of the Republican Party trying desperately to cover up the fact that they lost to That One.
Again.

Benghazi 2012 was just a construct to derail Clinton’s campaign in the future. Benghazi 2013 and 2014 are the endless cycles of the wingnut scandal machine. There will certainly be Benghazi 2016 “Why Clinton can’t be president” and probably Benghazi 2017-2020 “Why Clinton should be impeached over Benghazi”.

@JGabriel: This is just SOP at Roger Ailes Myth and Spin Shop: From a 2008 David Carr Column:
“When Fox News Is the Story
By DAVID CARR
Like most working journalists, whenever I type seven letters — Fox News — a series of alarms begins to whoop in my head: Danger. Warning. Much mayhem ahead.
Once the public relations apparatus at Fox News is engaged, there will be the calls to my editors, keening (and sometimes threatening) e-mail messages, and my requests for interviews will quickly turn into depositions about my intent or who else I am talking to.
And if all that stuff doesn’t slow me down and I actually end up writing something, there might be a large hangover: Phone calls full of rebuke for a dependent clause in the third to the last paragraph, a ritual spanking in the blogs with anonymous quotes that sound very familiar, and — if I really hit the jackpot — the specter of my ungainly headshot appearing on one of Fox News’s shows along with some stern copy about what an idiot I am. …” http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/07/business/media/07carr.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0&pagewanted=print

Speaking of Fox News and how they are absolutely evil, you have to read this piece of admiration for “stand your ground” and execution of teenagers for being teenagers. http://mediamatters.org/blog/2014/05/01/hannity-defends-vigilante-killer/199112

Bengazi is such a fun and easy word to say. The politians and pundits, who surely do love the sound of their own voice, just love to hear that word roll off their (forked) tongnues. If this event had happened in beka-beka-stan or some other place that their mouth breathing base could not pronounce they would have long ago let it go.” Bengazi !” just makes such a good battle cry that they can’t let it go.
J R in WV
I would have thought that when the fact that the Ambassador had turned down enhanced security staff TWICE in the weeks before the catsasstrophe that even the Rs would have been forced to shut the F’ up about this.
But they have no shame, and no pride, and no self respect, and so they can continue to lie (with a straight face!) about how it came to pass, and why it was easy for the barbarians to over run the true Americans in that consulate. Because the person in charge, the deceased Ambassador, didn’t want additional security forces, so as to not appear to be a military installation, one presumes.
There is a difference between a military base and a diplomatic outpost, even though Faux and the Rs don’t seem to understand this.
