I am content to see such a tiny portion of that NYT baseball map belongs to my White Sox. I have no desire to belong to a large club. But my heart goes out to The Oakland A’s who do not appear at any magnification.

Damn, shows what happens when you leave the intertubes alone for some hours. Worthy rants on every side, Cole’s friend is doing well, and a nice broadside against Our Lady of Kitchen Appliances. (Wonder if she’s found out how to use a knife yet.) And dumping the litter box? Pshaw, some people would have shit in that Ravens hat and left it for the owner to find.
He’s a Steelers fan fanatic. They’re allergic to anything having to do with Baltimore.

Both Brooks and Krugman wrote about Thomas Piketty’s new book addressing the inequity of wealth. One can’t help but wonder if Krugman had an advanced copy of Brooks oped, because he destroyed Brooks arguments.
Brooks seems to think this a valid argument
The book is very good and interesting, but it has pretty obvious weaknesses. Though economists are really not good at predicting the future, Piketty makes a series of educated guesses about the next century.
Wasn’t this the same argument on climate change?

@JPL: Why would you assume Kthug had Brooks writing in advance? My guess is after reading him for a short while any half intelligent beast could know what shit would drop him Brook’s keyboard give or take a couple turds. The man is as lazy as MeArglebargle but just a tiny bit smarter. He has not had a new idea in years.
14.
JPL
@Schlemizel: The other comment that Brooks made that I found interesting was the democrats don’t spend time talking about the poor. He’s absolutely correct that as Cliven Bundy proved, the right spends more time talking about the poor. They’re moochers who happen to be black.
also, Krugman’s point was they can’t dispute the facts, so they need just to say code words.

Question: If Cliven Bundy has not recognized the existence of the federal government for 20 years, why is the IRS not seizing everything but his dirty undies? Or has he been filing and paying his taxes to an entity he insists is not there?
Apparently some right-wing Japanese politician claims Barack and Michelle are headed for divorce after his term is done. Did some Googling and apparently this is something that has been floating around (particularly in international news) a while. I’d be kind of surprised if that’s true – the US news loves getting a whiff of that kind of shit if it’s true.

If I live to be 500, shall never understand sports or sports fans.
(Not implying either is necessarily or intrinsically a bad thing, just saying I don’t get it.)
@Jewish Steel: It’s interesting — to me at least — that the Toledo area, my old home town, is Detroit Tigers territory while a county to the east is the beginning of the Cleveland Native Americans fan base. I guess that has to do with the connection to the Toledo Mud Hens, the minor league farm team for the Tigers that has been there since the 1890’s and media coverage via radio and TV; we could pick up Ernie Harwell calling the games on WJR in Detroit.
I had hoped to see some Tiger fans here in South Florida, but it’s Marlins territory, although I have no idea why. They suck dry green donkey hooters.
ZOMG Marxism! (Or soshulist!) When you point out that this whole capitalism gig hasn’t been working as advertised since about 1971, the usual response from wingers varies according to their income level. If it’s six figures and up, well, it’s been working just fine for them, and we need more of what has produced this happy state of affairs – deregulation in particular. For wingnuts with lower income levels, any problems – if they really exist – are all the fault of guvmint overregulation, equal opportunity laws for blahs and Meskins, and liberals in general – who as we all know are totally responsible for the wholesale relocation abroad of America’s manufacturing sector.
Re Brother Brooks…his analysis and remedy for income inequality issues lacks something, like an acknowledgment of what the philosophy of “the right” truly is, more particularly today’s Republican Party, Here’s the tell:
This is a moment when progressives have found their worldview and their agenda. This move opens up a huge opportunity for the rest of us in the center and on the right. First, acknowledge that the concentration of wealth is a concern with a beefed up inheritance tax.
There are a couple of issues with that last sentence, among them being its structure – are there no editors for the op-ed page? More importantly, once you figure it out, Brooks seems to be saying that there is a legitimate concern of the concentration of wealth in this here US of A, and that the remedy is a beefed up inheritance tax. Consider that for just a moment…
Now that you’ve savored that thought (and phraseology) for a bit – there must be, in some alternative universe (like Brooks’ fertile mind), a Republican Party that would consider increasing the inheritance tax, also known as the death tax by all good wingnuts.
It must be in an alternative universe because in this universe there’s no possibility – zilch, zip, nada – of such an increase being considered, much less supported, by today’s Republicans. Brooks somehow has ignored the fact that the number one goal of the Republican Party as presently constituted is protecting the interests of its wealthiest constituents. All else – foreign policy, moral issues, you name it – is secondary, as witnessed by the spectacle of virtually every 2016 Republican presidential hopeful making a pilgrimage to Las Vegas to fellate – um, beg for contributions from – Jabba the Hutt, er, Sheldon Adelson. There’s about as much chance of Republicans supporting an increase in the inheritance tax as there is of my becoming a U.S. senator.
Then there’s the utter fatuity of that line about “a huge opportunity for the rest of us in the center and on the right.” Ranks right up there with “this is good news for John McCain”, that one does. A substantial majority of the public favors an increase in the inheritance tax – you know, the Paris Hilton tax. How this poses a huge opportunity for the right is for more discriminating eyes than mine, but it must be there somewhere or Brooks wouldn’t say it…
