Necessary Distraction

Hey, all.

Sad family news hit last week, so my already sporadic bloggery is going to get even more sketchy for a while.  But I did run across something this morning that was genuinely cheering.  Being a generous soul, I thought I’d share:

Yiddish is a delightfully expressive language, is it not?

A few years ago, a klezmer band put out a holiday album called, “Oy to the World: A Klezmer Christmas.” I liked that.

I’m very sorry to hear that, Tom. Here’s a link to a song that really moves me, in these times. I’m sorry to say that I’m not skilled enough to remove the advertisement they put in front of it. Warren Zevon’s “Keep Me in Your Heart For a While.”

I saw the Irish-American band Solas yesterday in a little club north of Santa Cruz. Their latest album is a theme album, about the Irish who settled in Butte, Montana to work the copper mines. Tell God and the Devil

Very sorry to hear your family has been hit with bad tidings. Definitely will keep you in my thoughts.

I really like Klezmer music. It’s one of those genres that really shows off its anthro-archeological bones, too, with phrases and tonality that sound (to me, anyway) Moorish/Arabic, possibly Celtic, and FSM knows what else.
