Think my fever finally broke this afternoon at around 3 pm. I was up every 30 minutes from 5 am until noon with horrible chills and took like three hot showers just to get warm. Spent the whole morning basically feeling like I was peaking with voices in the corners of the room and just thinking I was dying, and I had Led Zeppelin In the Light from Physical Graffiti going through my head for the whole time.
At any rate, got up around noon and putzed around for two hours, went to bed at two for a nap and woke up and had completely and totally sweat through my pillows and my head felt cool and clammy, but I could tell the fever had broken. So I am finally getting through this damned cold.
Why are the worst colds always in the Spring and Summer?

Glad you’re feeling better, John.

I don’t know, but all my worst colds have been summer colds.

And how come when you have an uncomfortable fever you always get some random song stuck in your head on repeat?

What is this cold thing of which you speak? I don’t get sick. 4000 IUs of Vit. D a day makes me bulletproof, but, the second I feel like I’m fighting something I take zinc tablets and drink hot lemon water. Works every single time.

Doing laundry and getting ready to pack to head down to Austin tomorrow for my sister’s funeral. As I was watching the final minutes of our alma mater’s win in the NCAA hockey tournament yesterday, I kept waiting for a text message from her asking me if I was going to go to the Frozen Four. Message never came.

The worst cold I’ve ever had was the summer we had to go to Memphis for Mr. AliceBlue’s grandfather’s funeral. My sinuses felt like they had been filled with concrete, my throat was raw, chills, aches; all combined with Memphis heat and humidity.

Glad you’re feeling better, but, jeez, did you have to hand it off to my kid? She was 105 last night. Down now to about 100. At least she’s sleeping. But next time, keep these things in West Virginia, would you? Thanks.

John, are you sure you had a cold? Those symptoms sound more like a flu or some other viral infection, I’ve never had a cold with those drastic symptoms.

Burns, you have my deepest sympathy. I have five siblings and even though I know it is inevitable, I can’t bear the thought of losing any of them.

@burnspbesq: Sorry to hear about your sister’s passing. Sounds like it was completely unexpected which probably makes it that much more difficult.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. They are much appreciated.
I’m either doing OK or I’m doing a good job of conning myself into believing I’m going OK. I did kinda lose it for a few minutes on Friday, and I don’t know whats going to happen once the family is together.

@burnspbesq: Sorry about your sister, and best wishes for all your family.
John, I just got over the same cold. Two weeks of being sick starting February 26, including 8 days off work. Lots of sweating, chills, and misery including gut-wrenching coughing. My wife though I was wailing in sorrow at times, the sound was so awful. Then after that improved, another week of being under the weather, muddle-headed, and dragging my tail around, and another week of not being 100%. On Monday I finally got back to normal except for my throat. which gives me problems at times, and it’s now over a month after the cold started.
This one is nasty. Take care of yourself. The good news is that my wife’s cold, probably the same type, was not quite as bad as mine. Still, it lasted an awful long time and she’s still suffering some aftereffects.

@burnspbesq: Very sorry for your loss. My best friend who also happened to be my father-in-law died in February of 2011. For 30 years he and I had squirmed and squabbled over ever single March Madness game that was played. The first season of games I missed with him I would think about picking up the phone to call him about a particular outcome and then realize he was not there anymore. It was the weirdest feeling. Just as cold and lonely as a feeling can get.
delosgatos
That most definitely sounds like the flu, not just a cold.
