An Urgent Request

From a Balloon Juice reader:

Urgent dogs: Baby Girl! Time is not her friend at this point! Our sponsors do not want to see anything happen to her and have given us the gift of increased sponsorship ($350) to reputable rescue!

Time is about to be called for Baby Girl. She has a deep voice and has some food guarding issues (Feed separately!), but she loves people. She wants to be a lap dog no matter what size she is. She shakes, sits, speaks and wants to be near her people. She’s older and is selective about the dogs she accepts and doesn’t like cats. But she so adores people. Someone must have a place for her! She would be a great only dog and love her people. Baby Girl’s sponsorship has been increased to $350 to reputable rescue.

Here is a personal testimonial:

Hi everyone,

We don’t normally do this, but we have a special connection to this dog, and unfortunately, because she doesn’t like cats, we are unable to take her ourselves (we were so hoping to be able to do so).

It is breaking our hearts that Baby Girl is still in the shelter and is in danger… we fostered her two beautiful puppies, Ruby and Jade, this winter. They were incredibly friendly, social, sweet, and smart girls. They were both adopted several weeks ago and are doing wonderfully in their new homes. If their temperaments were a testament of how their mother raised them for their first 8 weeks, Baby Girl must be incredible too. We were hoping to foster her, but unfortunately she doesn’t get along with cats, and we have six very social kitties here. Please, if you are a cat-free home, consider rescuing this girl… she sounds like a doll and so deserves to know the love of a home.

Please contact us if you are at all interested in learning more about this beautiful girl. She literally needs you- time is of the essence! She will be put down if no help is found, simply because the shelter is running out of space to continue holding her. If you are unable to help, please, pass this along to everyone you know!

Folks in the WV, Central-Eastern OH, and Western PA area, anyone interested or no someone who might be?

Any amount of food guarding is too much for me, but I hope someone will take her on.

Omigosh, she’s a Plott Hound!!! They. Are. WONDERFUL. Dogs. Old souls, all of them — terrific indoors, w/kids, (ours is cat-safe), very smart, very loving, very healthy, very strong and robust. They’re all brindle, the state dog of North Carolina. Would LUV her but we’ve got 4 cats. Darn it.

Yes, she will make someone a WONDERFUL pet!

    Little Boots says:

okay, that was unkind. I can’t take him either, but hopefully somebody can.

    Daffodil's Mom says:

I’m dying to take her — but this cat lying next to me, staring up with her baby blue eyes, is a pretty good reason not to.

Plott Hounds are just amazing critters though — if she gets the chance, she’ll make someone very, very happy.

somebody has to want a dog, somebody who doesn’t have a cat.

Well, not you, not me — hopefully LT’s niece, or someone else who shows up later. Gosh, I hope so; I’m wracking my brains trying to think of someone w/no dogs or cats, and just coming up empty. Really, though, they are just the greatest breed, and she looks like a real sweetheart.

Does anyone know a shelter that could take her? It’s only a stop-gap measure but it could get some more time for her.

    Pogonip says:

Now that the weather is moderating, can the people who wanted to foster her, but couldn’t, keep her outside? Not the ideal situation for a snuggly-type dog but it’ll buy her some time.

Can we compromise, and agree that you are annoying?

Sorry for the long comment, I couldn’t pull up an email address under contact.

I’m a reader of yours in the Netherlands, originally from sunny SoCal. I know you and many of your readers are big animal lovers and I wanted to highlight Rudozem Street Dog Rescue (RSDR). It’s a nonprofit that saves dogs and cats in Bulgaria, heals and fixes them up after a life on the streets, then finds the ones, who aren’t too scarred, homes in the UK, Netherlands and now Germany. It’s where we got our dog, Leander, after our puppy died from a genetic liver disease just before the Christmas holidays last year.

I imagine most of the people reading this are in the US so you can’t adopt but you can sponsor a pup or donate to the renovation of the shelter. Search RSDR on internet to read more about the tireless work it does from independent sources! Those in Europe might be able to take one of these loving dogs in. In my case, Leander saved me as much as I saved him.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

    Hope everyone finds themselves well.

I’m going to repost this urgent request from a Balloon Juice Reader (me) for 30+ dogs in need of immediate homes. I posted this two days ago.

Emergency Assistance Needed in Rowan County NC!
We were contacted by a woman whose sister died in an accident last night. The lady had over 30 gorgeous adult dogs and 6 four month old puppies. We think they look like retriever/border collie mixes. These dogs are not current on vaccines and obviously not spayed and neutered. At least 1 may be pregnant. We’ve been given 1-2 weeks to find placement for these dogs or they will have to go to the shelter. Our shelter is a very small rural one and does NOT have room for these dogs :(

    email contact is rachelfromrowan (at)

She also may not be that old — they get grey in the muzzle quite young.

This dog is a real cutie. Here’s the direct link to her Petfinder listing: From it:

Baby Girl is a senior between 9-10 years old. She is a pretty brindle color and she has a white chest and toes. Baby Girl has a deep bark and barks when people come in. But it is only that she wants attention, not that she is vicious or mean. She’s saying, “Look at me! Pet me! I want to be close to you.” Baby Girl knows how to sit, to speak, and down. She weighs 56.2 pounds, so she’s quite a little chunk. Baby Girl has probably had lots of puppies in her life, but she has had her last litter. She has retired from raising children. The rest of her life should be about her! Will someone give her a good home, a soft bed, some treats, and regular ear rubs for the rest of her life? She’d be so happy

There are three pictures of her there. She’s so cute in the third one where someone is holding her. Those eyes! Awww… I hope someone adopts her.
