You may have heard of this ridiculous pastor in Harlem that says ridiculous things. He wants to let everyone know that Obama has unleashed something upon Black men. And no, it’s not the #MyBrothersKeepers initiative…
This is real life people. I need some scotch.
Baud
I was happy to see this. For a while, I was starting to think only white people were bat shit insane.
Omnes Omnibus
I don’t know. The asshole demon sounded pretty plausible.
The Dangerman
Didn’t listen too far…
…but people switch “teams” for an American Express card?
jl
OK, I listened to as much as I could before I started getting disoriented. This is the guy who was raving about Obama’s mac daddy. I never figured out what mac daddy meant in that context.
Now I have to figure out what a ‘homo demon’ is.
Omnes Omnibus
@The Dangerman: And theater tickets. I think it takes both.
Alison
Dude, okay, HomoDemons has GOT to become a band name, obvs.
Roger Moore
@Baud:
No, they aren’t. But white privilege means you can be white, batshit insane, and a Very Serious Person.
Omnes Omnibus
@Roger Moore: Clarence Thomas is a very serious person.
jl
@Omnes Omnibus: Yeah, I was clicking through and heard a few seconds about the theater and homo demons, which I think I understood but maybe not.
I like the theater and have bought many theater tickets.
All my life I’ve wanted to be a mac daddy (for chicks, not for Barry) and it turns out I am just a homo demon, and white homo demon at that.
Emma
I’m going for the real thing: Penderyn. And maybe I’ll stop by the Hub and get some retcon. Between this and the guy in a wheelchair I’ve had one heck of a day.
Omnes Omnibus
On a more serious note, on Tuesday, I did have a young black woman try to explain to me that Obama was the devil. I started to laugh and that she explained that she believed in Jesus and being redeemed in Christ. I didn’t get to hear how that exactly led to Obama being the devil as I quickly disengaged from the conversation.
Chris
@Baud:
There used to be these black preachers at the DC Chinatown metro standing on soapboxes to preach some racialized twist on Christianity. They had this entire chart showing how all the different kinds of black people today were descended from one of the tribes of Israel. The Haitians came from the Tribe of Levi, the Jamaicans came from the Tribe of Judah, or something – one for each tribe. Joseph Smith adjusted for different racial identity, I guess.
Craziness knows no racial boundaries. It’s another way I know the racialists are full of shit.
Zam
@The Dangerman: I assume all those places that don’t take American Express are just warding off the homo demons.
Zam
@Omnes Omnibus: I’ve heard it before. It’s nonsense about people cheering for or being enthusiastic about a candidate = worship. The devil will try to trick people into worshiping him over Jesus, therefore Obama is the devil.
Mnemosyne
@Chris:
Were they wearing bow ties? If so, they may have been Nation of Islam. Like the Mormons, they have an unpleasantly violent past, but these days (at least in LA), they mostly tend to be polite and try to sell you copies of their newspaper.
Omnes Omnibus
@Zam: Is that all? I guess I was hoping for something more baroque.
JPL
There really is an asshole demon.
NotMax
@Omnes Omnibus
“So many hours with those Nazi censors! And there’s some more bad news. They want us to cut out the gypsy number. It seems they don’t like gypsies either.”
“Let’s face it, sweetheart. . .
. . .without Jews, fags and gypsies, there is no theatre.”
– To Be Or Not To Be (remake)
Mnemosyne
@NotMax:
I know I’m supposed to hate the Brooks version of To Be or Not To Be, especially since I adore the original, but it really ain’t that bad. It’s not Lubitsch, but who is?
Stan of the Sawgrass
I think we need a visual of the homo demon. You know– think about it: The Devil– picture popped right into your head, dinnit?
So is a “Homo Demon” just a flaming* Red Devil, or something a little more imaginative? Maybe a closeted southern GOPer with expensive designer horns and a wide stance?
Art contest time!!!!
*pun not really intended, but unavoidable. Fun, too.

@Mnemosyne
Brooks was smart enough not to meddle with what worked, but rather to aim at adorning it.
Ian
@JPL:
Summoned by quantities of Dave’s insanity sauce
MattR
@Chris: @Mnemosyne: That sounds a lot like these guys.
Joseph Nobles
Homodemons? Is this the problem where two demons’ names are so similar, you’re always invoking one when you mean the one?
“Sorry, Molech, I was after Malech again. Homodemons!”
NotMax
@Joseph Nobles
Satan: What’s up with these strips of leather? And all these fish?
Demon: So help me, I thought it was sell your s-o-l-e.
Woodrowfan
I think I saw them there last fall. I wondered what that was about..
Stan of the Sawgrass
@Joseph Nobles: win
Darkrose
Elon, I really think we need more of your singing from the Rent soundtrack.
Also, I noticed that only black women need to worry about homodemons. I guess lesbiandemons are kind of boring: they just sit around and try to come to a consensus on who’s turn it is to work at the co-op and who’s supposed to empty the cat boxes.
SRW1
Logic of the market dictates that there be no void. This particular niche of The Grift previously untapped. That error has been corrected. That’s all that’s to it.
ETA: Yield is probably gonna be kind of meager.
SiubhanDuinne
@NotMax:
As God is my wi — oh, wait.
burnspbesq
@Alison:
And whaddaya know, David (TRex) is in a new band.
Origuy
James Manning’s nightmare trinity: Bill Nye and Neil deGrass Tyson visit Obama.
Chris
@Mnemosyne:
@MattR:
I don’t remember if they had bow ties. Mighta been either of them. I wouldn’t say “polite,” but if they had any violent roots, they definitely weren’t showing them there. They were just fruity as a nutcake.
Mnemosyne
@Chris:
I think MattR is probably right about who they were — I’m on the opposite coast, so I don’t know the local NYC-ers.
Villago Delenda Est
@Baud:
Let’s see now…Herman Cain, Allen West, Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson…
Yup, they’ve got the batshit insane too
Villago Delenda Est
@Zam:
Makes you seriously wonder about Sarah Palin, though.
MattR
@Chris: @Mnemosyne: According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, they have become more militant since 2000 when Christ failed to reappear to destroy white people as they had prophesized. I remember them from when I worked in the Times Square area in the late 90’s and they seemed to match Chris’s description – loudly proclaiming their wacky beliefs but not being confrontational about it. (Or at least I think they were the same group that those articles discussed. )
jibeaux
@MattR: Yeah, I saw those guys too. I was just tryin’ ta get a crepe.
Unfortunately I’m probably too white to get away with yelling “it’s only a flesh wound! ” at them.
I think “homodemon” is a very Freudian name for these sorts of….demons.
PurpleGirl
@Mnemosyne: There is a guy who gathers his audience on 7th Avenue and 33rd St. I’ve run into them occasionally. Although at this spot the leader usually is quiet when whites walk by and starts talking again to blacks passing by or who are standing waiting for a bus.
Homo Demon
You rang?
Lyrebird
@Joseph Nobles: Where can we send your internets?
@Stan of the Sawgrass: Maybe something like this? (NSFW cuz satyr)
Li
@Stan of the Sawgrass: Thanks to the Powerpuff Girls, I think we have an excellemt visual approximation.
