If you’re not following Ted Nugent’s twitter feed, you’re missing out. The last forty six tweets have been “are words more offensive than _random made -up Obama scandal_”.
But this has to be my favorite:
CNN Joseph Goebbells Saul Alinsky propaganda ministry mongrels

Yeah, yeah, we shouldn’t pay attention to the freak show. Well, Ted may as well be on the DNC pay roll at this point.
And, yes “Joseph Goebbells Saul Alinsky propaganda ministry mongrels” will soon be a rotating tag.

(That’s in response to something I deleted: “Unfair. The girl was 17 and he was 30. That’s sleazy and wrong, but it’s not pedophilia.”)
I get where you’re going, and I guess where we differ is the idea that statutory rape always == pedophilia. Maybe you’re right and I’ve got the unusual understanding of that word? When I hear the word “pedophile” I think of someone who’s sexually attracted to children.
Way I see it, there’s miles of daylight between the guy who looks at a 17-year-old and says “Man, I wish she was 18” and the guy who looks at a 12-year-old and says “I want some of that.” They’re both wrong, but one is way wronger, and it seems unfair to call that first guy a pedophile when he’s really just kind of a creep.

Nah, can’t afford that. A nice 2012 with notes of pear and, maybe, apricot? It was what is called a Chairman’s Selection in our state controlled wine and spirit stores. A (usually) very good wine at a discount and in limited quantity and for only a limited period, usually a month. This was a bottle that should retail at about $20-30 and I paid $11. We get great wines at great price by buying just those wines every month if we can. It just sucks that once they’re gone, they’re gone.

@Laertes: I’d also note that my daughter had a classmate that easily passed for 18 when she was 11 – 5th grade. She was about 5′ 10″, could carry herself like an adult when she chose, and was very pretty – and then one of her friends would come up to her and they’d go scamper off like 11 year olds. She made all of the parents nervous because nobody was prepared to protect someone that age from that kind of attention.
Not a defense, but not all 12 year olds are so easy to spot as 12 year olds. Of course when you’re 30, you should be LONG past running the risk of picking 18 year-olds out of the field. But the claim is a bit hard to believe. It’s pretty hard for a 12 year old to even get in that situation, want to get in that situation, etc.

Randy P
Why is mongrel an insult? I use that to describe myself all the time. Plus I’ve always personally felt that mongrel dogs tended to be a lot smarter and well-adjusted than most of the “pure” breeds.
jl
@Randy P: Mongrel is an age-old racist slur used to expand the group that is to be deemed inferior. Being a mixed race person was worse than being of a different race, based on some BS about adulteration and degeneration of pure blood lines. The mongrel slur was picked up by U.S. slave owners to justify all sorts of discrimination, and used it to justify the ‘one-drop’ (of supposedly inferior race blood) theory of being not-white, and so, perfectly OK to discriminate against all sorts of people.
Then the Nazi’s used it to justify their treatment of Jews, and then extended it to justify their treatment of any group they decided should be killed or oppressed or excluded from genuine humanhood.
So, when discussing race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, and more, ‘mongrel’ is a very dangerous word, and liable to alarm many types of people.
SFAW
@Randy P:
Using a word, normally used in reference to animals, to describe yourself, is your business, I guess. But referring to someone else that way, without their prior consent, is not really considered good/nice, etc.

Mongrel was a favorite slur to denigrate and justify discrimination and killing of Native Americans who were trying to assimilate to European ways, and had allied themselves with Europeans. Especially if they owned something or were on land that neighboring European communities wanted.
Gee, too bad, ain’t it? These poor dupes played the game we told them too, but now we can spread nonsense about how they are even worse than Native American’s themselves. They are mongrels, half-breeds, really degenerate and dangerous people, neither one race nor another.
Words like ‘mongrel’ and ‘half-breed’ are, or IMHO, should, raise alarm bells when some one uses them like Nugent did.
If somebody wants to call themselves a mongrel or a mutt jokingly, that is their business. But otherwise it is considered a very loaded word, and I can see why.
Blitzer and his guest on the CNN broadcast took it seriously, and it doesn’t look like they are going to put up with any whining about liberal PC about it. And I hope that is the case, because I think that they very definitely should not.

Sorry, but mongrel, simply not ok. At least not to refer to other people.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
” So Christie is now running against FEMA? ”
This guy is going to wear well on the campaign trail, isn’t he? Maybe it will work for the primaries, since it’s the GOP base. But not after that.
Mitt might wear better a second time. Maybe we need to add Mitt to the list with Jeb of possible second tier threats after the current favorites flame out due to scandals, crimes, political thuggishness, emerging signs of insanity, and general nastiness.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Good god, the burning and the pain and the gouging out of eyes and puncturing of eardrums…
Bill E Pilgrim
@dance around in your bones: Kind of a toss up where anything would go, if you ask me.
Joseph Goebbels Saul Alinksy expialidocious
“propaganda ministry mongrels” is really quite atrocious
but if you Tweet it loud enough you think you sound ferocious!
blah blah blah blah BLAH blah blah blah…
etc,

@Omnes Omnibus:
Yep. When I was 16 he was playing solo shows and also now and then with Panther Burns. The Antenna is the bar I grew up in
Omnes Omnibus
@MikeJ: You have seen this film then?
Punchy
Shouldnt Nugent be dead or in jail by this time? Wasnt that his campaign promise?
RaflW
I love that immediately below one of two Geobbells Alinsky tweets, the Tedster twats:
And I bet Greg Abbott is proud to have him. Er, umm, yeah.
dance around in your bones
@Bill E Pilgrim:Hmm – not bad!
I don’t tweet, though I have an account. Twitter is always bugging me to pay attention to those I quasi-follow. Gawd, haven’t we given up enough of our privacy!?!?
MikeJ
@Omnes Omnibus: Heh. No, but I’d bet I know many of the people in it. I ran sound there, mostly when friends were playing but filling in now and then.
Omnes Omnibus
@dance around in your bones: I don’t think twitter suits your stories. You are best in long form.
dance around in your bones
@Omnes Omnibus: True, I tend toward the Long-Tweet, if there is such a thing.

@RaflW:
Oh, good. Rogue spokesperson! They have to run away from him now.
Rick Perry wants to talk about “jobs” all of a sudden. We’d all be better off if we talked about “jobs” he says. We are talking about jobs. The Texas governor. That’s a job.
Amir Khalid
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
I’m two weeks older than Barack Obama. I’ve seen the Fiddler On The Roof movie. As a kid I knew the first names of all the Osmond Brothers, those painfully white-bread Jackson 5 imitators, although even then I knew their music was bland rubbish (except maybe Crazy Horses). Maybe in the Mormon world the Osmonds are still the pop-culture giants they were in the 1970s. But that video … God, it’s just completely mental.
Kid Rock is dim and Ted Nugent is nuts; but you go to campaign with the celebrity endorsers you have, not the ones you wish you had.

The bully gets bullied:
MikeJ
@MikeJ: ok, still watching, Think I saw the back of my head in one shot and there are flyers for shows that I was at. Hell, I may still have copies of some of those flyers in the attic.
Funny though they start talking about the all ages shows that started after I was already of age. It’s not like they ever checked an ID before they had all ages shows.
There’s a show calendar on there with TSOL, Scruffy the Cat, Meat Puppets, Psychic Plowboys, Voodoo Village People, Widespread Panic, Human Radio, and the Chromatics. I was probably at every one of those.
StringOnAStick
Tbogg got after Ted for his tweetstorm, so if you’d like to see a selected compendium without getting Ted’s twitter juice on you, go have a look there.
Quite frankly, Ted’s tweetstorm reminded me of Jack Nicholson “writing” his book in The Shining. If you see him with an axe, run!
Jim, Foolish Literalist
Zounds! I probably could too back then, because of the cartoon. In my minds eye I picture a horrified Zero Mostel watching that video and trying not to have a stroke.
@Kay: Have your read the New Republic article by McGillis? I had no idea that Jersey was so old-school boss territory. That fucking Norcross is like something out of a movie where Gregory Peck takes on a corrupt political outfit. You gotta wonder if that’s all of what WIllard’s people saw, then you think that this is what could be sourced and fact-checked.
Another_Bob
Nugent has a song called “Girl Scout Cookies” with lyrics like this:
I like to eat my girl scout cookies
I like to eat them all night long
That coconut just drives me wild
I get my cookies fresh from a child
That peanut butter gets stuck to the roof of my mouth
I like my girls scouts east north west and south
One of his fans on youtube earnestly defends his honor, saying, “It’s an innocent song about Girl Scout Cookies. Anyone who reads more into that is the perverted one.”
Amir Khalid
@Kay:
Hard to read that without feeling a big hit of Schadenfreude. That’s the risk, isn’t it, when your operating philosophy is “Let them hate me, so long as they fear me”: make them hate you enough, and they will overcome their fear of you.
The Thin Black Duke
This huge tsunami of public outrage is so odd. I mean, Ted Nugent has said vile offensive disgusting hateful things before. What’s so different this time? Not that I’m complaining, mind you.
divF
@jl:
Blitzer is Jewish, and his parents were Holocaust survivors. This collection of slurs (both mongrel and Goebbels) would definitely be hot buttons for him.
Cervantes
@divF: I bet the Saul Alinksy thing is what really made him see red.
The Other Chuck
@dmsilev: Unfortunately, yow and by extension psychoanalyze-pinhead are crippled. Bill Griffith’s lawyers did what lawyers do, so now the entire yow database has been reduced to a single phrase:
You can download the quotes database as a fortune file, but nobody’s going to do that. Yow is probably getting dropped entirely in emacs 25.
Bill D.
@SFAW:
Man, that is cold!
divF
@Cervantes:
In conjunction with the other two, definitely.
Kay
@The Thin Black Duke:
I watched the clip of Wolf Blitzer and he was authentically angry, in my opinion. I don’t know why there’s a tipping point, but there is, and he reached it.
Nugent looked terrible at the Texas event. He has huge bags under his eyes and he looks too old and worn to be so angry and unhinged, like he should be calmer and wiser by now. It’s disconcerting to watch. You expect a younger man’s face.
SFAW
@Amir Khalid:
Michael, Marlon, Tito, Jermaine, and Izzy?
or was it Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Snicklefritz, and Dingleberry?
I can never remember.
trollhattan
@The Thin Black Duke:
Hard to say, exactly, since he’s not one for…self-filtering. I guess the setup is Texas Republicans saw fit to plop him into direct sunlight for some unknowable beneficial end, and he did his Ted thing and in this rare case, decent folks were listening.
I’ll liken it to Rush commenting on Sandra Fluke. And commenting, and commenting and….. Decent people were forced to listen to the actual words and sentences. There was no rationalizing it away, the fact that he’s a sociopath paid considerable money to speak in that fashion, in this case about somebody’s daughter, was right there in their faces and impossible to ignore. Long enough to at least give them pause.
trollhattan
@SFAW:
At least one has to be Duffel. Pretty sure another is Bong.
SFAW
@trollhattan:
I think you’re confusing them with either the other Romney brothers, or perhaps the Palin offspring of unknown sex.
Amir Khalid
@SFAW:
Of the performing brothers, I can still remember Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Donny, and Jimmy (the youngest) but I’ve forgotten the sixth one. Or was that Marie?
SFAW
@Amir Khalid:
Wait a minute – are you trying to tell us that Marie used to be a guy? Wow. Just wow.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@SFAW: I think you got it: Bong Romney, the Jack Mormon they don’t talk about, and Duffel Palin, conceived in the baggage claim of of Juneau Greyhound bus terminal.
Cervantes
@Amir Khalid:
You forgot Jay.
(Don’t ask.)
SFAW
@Bill D.:
Cold? How so?
Or were they faves of yours, and I (inadvertently) insulted you? If so, my apologies.
Villago Delenda Est
@Dolly Llama:
Yeah. Figure actual rock stars should be denouncing pantsshitting Ted.
Cervantes
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Not only does Greyhound not serve Alaska, there is no bus terminal in, or interstate highway through, Juneau.
(Again, don’t ask.)
Anyhow, is Duffel one of Sarah’s, or one of one of Sarah’s? And as for Bong, if he doesn’t exist, he ought to.
mclaren
Spectacularly, he misspelled Joseph Goebbells’ name.
It’s Joseph Goebbels.
Proof once again that the world is run by `D’ students.
Villago Delenda Est
@SFAW:
Actually, the Monkees had some musical chops, and rebelled against the straightjacket that Don Kirschner tried to put them in. So much so that the next time Kirschner produced a show with music, it was The Archies, an animated show with utterly disposable studio musicians doing the singing, giving him total control. Ingrate musicians, anyways.
Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork were actual skilled musicians when they auditioned for the Monkees.
Amir Khalid
@Villago Delenda Est:
Charles Manson auditioned for the Monkees too. Good thing he didn’t make the cut.
SFAW
@Villago Delenda Est:
Yeah, I knew/know re: Tork and Nesmith. But they were still a marketing creation first and foremost. (Doesn’t mean I hated them, by the way – I didn’t.)
But, yeah, the Archies were pretty vile.
SFAW
@Amir Khalid:
Nice.
You are one sick bastard, you know that?
A man after my own heart. (In a purely platonic, manly sort of way, of course, as Gen. J.C. Christian might say.)
Bill D.
@<a href="#comme@SFAW:
Air Supply and Starland F****ing Vocal Band faves of mine? [rends garments and shrieks in absolute horror]
[Gathering myself back together here]
No, the only inadvertent insult was in imagining that they could be my faves. But then, obviously a lot of people *did* buy their music, so it’s admittedly plausible that a stranger might actually [gulp] like them.
Afternoon Delight has the dual evilness of being both an unbearably saccharine song and also an irresistible earbug. It was a cause of much agony on my part back in the mid-1970s, given its abundant airplay then and my status at times as a captive audience to a parent’s radio.
My reference to cold was in your suggesting that Romney likes these two… um… former musical groups.
YellowJournalism
@gogol’s wife: Been SO busy, lately. And yes, I was pretty heartbroken. Thanks for the link!
Bubblegum Tate
Did the Horse_ebooks guys take over Ted’s Twitter account?
AxelFoley
Isn’t this piece of shit draft dodging pedophile supposed to be dead or in jail by now?
AxelFoley
@Punchy:
Beat me to it, I see. ;)
Bjacques
@Bill D.: but you gotta admit “Afternoon Delight” sounded great as part of The Circle Jerks’ “Golden Shower Of Hits.”
Amir Khalid
@SFAW:
I swear, I didn’t realise I’d said that until you pointed it out.
Bruce K
Just reading that tweet, it looks like Mr. Nugent may have suffered some sort of head or brain injury, and should seek medical assistance.
Does anyone have the number of a good proctologist in their contact list?
Bruce K
Actually, logorrhea (the technical term for verbal diarrhea) and aphasia can both be signs of mental illness or brain damage, which indicate that perhaps Mr. Nugent should seek medical attention.
An Obamacare-compliant health insurance policy should cover a lower-abdominal MRI scan, right?
SFAW
@Bill D.:
No, that one was intentional.
SFAW
@Amir Khalid:
Amir, my friend, if you weren’t one o’ them heathen-types, I’d tell you to do 10 Ave Marias and 10 Paternosters.
But, given the tenor of some of your comments, I guess I’m a little
surprisedamazed that it wasn’t intentional. (I mean that in the nicest possible way. Really!)Jamey
My GOD, this reads like a rightwingo version of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

@Howard Beale IV:
No, it’s clinically not pedophillia, as a seventeen year old is post-pubescent. Still illegal in most states (at least now.)

It’s not like this stuff is new. Here’s one of my all time favorites, John Schmitz in 1982:

@Laertes: I see absolutely nothing wrong with wishing a seventeen-year-old was a year older. Many times as a seventeen-year-old I wished that I myself was a year older.
But I get your point.
