Here is what it looks like when a non cat owner tries to brush a cat. I’ve seen Shawn approach landmines with less caution, but Steve was a saint and just sat there and let him brush him.

Steve knows how to train hoomans.
WaterGirl
Is it just the angle of the photo, or is that one really long couch?
MoeLarryAndJesus
It looks like he’s trying to take out the wrenched ankle.

Great view of the T&H magnum opus there. Luckily the pets are oblivious.

OT (if that is possible on a cat post): Do any of the blog’s Chicagoans have any background info on this?
Howard Beale IV
Steve seems to know how to play the non-resident hoomins real well-as long as they don’t groom their backside.

Your friend is wise, it is best to approach someone armed with sharp claws and teeth with caution. I gave both my kittehs a pawdicure this morning and got lightly scratched for my efforts. They do not surrender their weapons of furniture destruction without a fight.

@Omnes Omnibus: As an ex-Illinoian, It’s been tough trying to keep up with the machinations of what’s been going on over there; it seems like the local billioniare is lining up to take the GOP slot, but with this distraction who the hell knows what’s happening.

What is the throw pillow doing on the top of the chair?
TaMara (BHF)
@MoeLarryAndJesus: WIN

@schrodinger’s cat: My kitteh has no front claws-but he more than makes up for it with his fangs (I adopted him in that condition, and he’s been with me for the majority of his existance.)

Here’s how much of an animal person I am NOT. What’s he doing wrong? And why is it funny?

@schrodinger’s cat:
Perhaps it was thrown there.

We have a professional cut Keaton’s and Charlotte’s claws. They’re much to willing to bite us for us to do it ourselves (plus we need to do something with them while the housecleaners are doing their thing).

@Omnes Omnibus: Someone mentioned on this blog recently that their are rumors that Rutherford is gay. I don’t see any way to know whether this is dirty tricks on the other candidate’s part, kind of a back-door way of bringing up the gay issue, or whether Rutherford has actually done something unseemly.
Either way it’s depressing. I get to vote for the democratic Governor Quinn who is helping to screw with our state pensions.

This is, I suppose, OT; or is this an open thread?
Just got a call from my daughter, off in Denver in her 2nd semester of college. She was obviously down, sounded upset but was hemming & hawing around, so I finally asked her what was wrong. She says “now, DON’T FREAK OUT , but . . . . .” (long, long pause while I quietly began to freak out), “but. . . the box you sent me? I know the tracking says it was delivered, but I asked at the desk and they don’t have it!!”
Now I’m laughing, because the box had Valentine’s cookies & candy + an Itunes card, not exactly a huge loss. I had to tell her, when you’re in college & a parent gets a call saying “don’t freak out” we’re thinking that sentence will end with “I think I’m pregnant” or “someone stole my car” or something else horrifying/expensive/tragic. She thinks I’m kind of mean to laugh at her.
Perspective. Comes easier to the old, I guess.

@Omnes Omnibus:
I’m from his area, but all of this was news to me. I’ve been entertaining myself with all the campaign invitations and solicitations I’m getting from him, since he’s the last person I would vote for, and since I’m on the list because the campaign believes my job means I’m a wingnut. So, so wrong.
Even people who like him think he’s toast.

That is one insanely ugly print on the wall.
TaMara (BHF)
@JohnCole, glad to hear your dad is doing ok. Will still keep all of you in my thoughts. Gla d Steve and Shawn are there to take your mind off of it.
Happy Valentine’s Day to the rest of you guys!

I love that each of the piglets has his/her own space. Lily and Steve seem pretty mellow. Rosie, on the other hand, …..

@gogol’s wife: I don’t like to criticize other’s taste in art, but the appeal of that piece escapes me.

edit: i see gogol’s wife got there before me.

@Helen:
He has both hands on the brush, instead of firmly gripping some part of the cat with one hand. The way he’s doing it, he can’t get any purchase on the animal at all, so at most there’s going to be some light tickling of the fur, but no actual fur will be groomed at all. In other words, UR doing it rong.

@Omnes Omnibus: i know only what i have read.

@SiubhanDuinne:
You’re cracking me up!

@Omnes Omnibus: It might be easier to resist the temptation if it wasn’t the T&H piece.

@Mnemosyne: I am out of practice, I used to clip their claws once every 3 weeks but have been slacking off lately. I got scratched on my forehead this morning when boss kitteh walked on my head with his sharp claws, so he got a pawdicure.

Decided not to go mattress shopping tonight, my younger sister called and that wore me out. Does anyone know if QuickBooks is good for bill paying/book keeping for a small business?
Glad your dad is ok John.
KG
@Dee Loralei: I used quickbooks for my business a few years back, my folks have used it as well. It gets everything done you need to get done, and you can tailor it to what you need.

@gogol’s wife:
But I thought Cole’s army buddy was using the furriminimurratator contraption. TYou just touch the dang cat with it and all the fur’s already bagged and ready to go. Like magic, right?
Or, have I been mislead again by a Balloon-Juice product endorsement?

You keep a beautiful hearth, Cole. Warmer and friendlier than any Hobbit hole.
drkrick
@Mike in NC: No comment on the quality – but Brent instead of Pigpen? Unacceptable.
drkrick
@Dee Loralei: My sister and her husband use it for their bakery successfully. Some operator errors, but no problems I know of that I’d blame on the application.

Wise move.
If he read that NYT article on cat scratches, he’d never go near a cat again (or leave the house).

Which reminds me. I have to pill the cats.

First of all, I know the state employees don’t have budget, but I can’t imaging retreating in my bosses house. But then I can’t see just not showing up. Rutherford seems to have authority issue.
Also, I’m not buying that attempted groping and invitations to hotel rooms lead to spinal fluid leaks. The whole thing seems a little hogwashy.
Mike in NC
OK, so to improve this T&H masterpiece, recommend smashing it to bits with a big fucking hammer, dousing it with gasoline, and setting the monstrosity on fire. Preferably outside the house. Otherwise try to sell it for $3 at a yard sale.
PurpleGirl
@Mike in NC: You do know, don’t you that the mural is JC’s very favorite piece of art… IIRC, it was commissioned by JC. Remember the saying “there’s no accounting for taste.”
John Cole
@Mike in NC: Fuck you. I love that piece and I have the battle scars and combat patch from back in the day that lets me say- “FUCK YOU, I LOVE THE DEAD, I LOVE THAT PIECE, IT MAKES ME HAPPY, AND DID I MENTION FUCK YOU.”
You don’t like it, don’t buy one. You’re like Brent Bozell bitching about Janet Jackson’s titty at the Super Bowl- “OMG, I HATE THAT AND MUST LET EVERYONE KNOW WHY I AM RIGHT.” Change the fucking channel, Bozell and Mike in NC.

@Omnes Omnibus: there was a bit of a reshuffle last week about Rutherford and his current assistant sharing hotel rooms when they travel, he claimed he was “being frugal”. Dude seems to be deep in the closet, and the fact that he’s apparently hiding it will hurt him worse than being gay would.
Ruckus
@Dee Loralei:
I used it in my last business. My accountant made me purchase it and set it up for me. Does everything a small business needs and interfaced with my inventory/sales program. If you’ve never done any accounting it will take a bit to get up to speed but has many tutorials that help.

@drkrick: Buddy. I doubt anyone here is of the Pigpen era. I saw them in 73 my first time and he was already dead then. Let us just agree that Brent rocked way better than Keith or Vince. That man had soul. He played with his emotions right there on the keys. I miss Brent. But the boy was stupid messin’ with needles. What are ya gonna do?
Oh yea, John please don’t try to get him to shave your cat’s ass again. Unless you videotape it and show it here.
Omnes Omnibus
@satby: I know (knew well and was friends years ago with) one of the players in this thing and the first I heard of it was yesterday. The whole thing is bothering me a bit.

@kindness: Hey, wait a minute! Saw the Dead with Pigpen at the Santa Monica Civic, the Pasadena Civic and the El Monte Legion Stadium back in the day. Great shows and Pigpen would work the crowd into a frenzy when he closed the show with either Lovelight or Good Lovin’. I knew there was a reason that I liked Cole, he’s another Dead Head…

@kindness: I only heard of Pigpen, think he died when I was 12.
That was before I liked The Dead.
