Dave Weigel has a good piece outlining the latest Wingnut Wurlitzer SHOCK HORROR OUTRAGE, including a tasty tidbit I hadn’t seen noted elsewhere:
… Do the D’Souza defenders have anything to say about the actual charges? Well, Ingraham made fun of how short the indictment was, and … that’s about it. Reporters who’ve actually compared the indictment to the timeline of donations and refunds to Long’s campaign say they match up neatly. Reuters’ Alison Frankel pointed out that campaign finance cases like this are common, and typically settled. The FBI saw an easy “straw donor” case. It pounced.
But if you don’t accept that theory—if you see the shadow hand of a conspiracy—you’ve got so much to gain. Drudge, Cruz, Ingraham, and company lose absolutely nothing by speculating about an Obama administration hit job in easily shareable news stories and videos. Friends of Abe gets a sympathetic A1 story in the New York Times, one that silences—for now, at least—some internal debate about whether Republican politicians were taking advantage of the group, seeing their celebrity members as potential donors.
And before we ask how D’Souza comes out of this, consider where he’s been. Back in 2012, around the time of the suspect donations, D’Souza resigned under duress from the presidency of King’s College. He’d scandalized the evangelical community after appearing at a conference with his fiancé, Denise Joseph, while not yet divorced from his wife. Denise Joseph happens to be the possible “straw donor” whose money was refunded by the Wendy Long campaign…
Yes, we have previously discussed D’Souza’s fiance here. Guess that God did indeed “have a mighty future for Dinesh“, and it would involve a banana peel.
(But, for the historical record, did anyone ever track down Denise’s first husband, Mr. Joseph II?)
jl
I saw a news item that said one of D’Spuza’s friends involved in the bundling scam is accusing D’Souza of lying to get him (or was it a her?) involved in the mess.
If that friend was involved in the investigation, or is going to rat out D’Souza to get away from the mess, I look forward to the conspiracy theories that explain that.
Oh, yeah. Obama went back in his time machine and planted deep covers in neo-con circles to frame Great Men like D’Souza (edit: when the time was ripe). That’s the ticket.
WereBear
The last thread was discussing sex appeal and charisma. Something notably lacking in any of the current Republican crop. And yet… they manage to get themselves in trouble over it, like real people. Like Newt… I can see one wife, out of pity, but he’s had what, three?
Case of Kissinger-syndrome/power-aphrodisiac, I suppose.
WereBear
@jl: The Obama as Time Lord theory does have a lot of appeal to it.
David
Prediction: D’Souza will plead guilty and the Wingnuts will pretend not to notice.
Comrade Jake
Dinesh looks a little like Tay Zonday to me:

Almost as annoying too.

D’Souza is going to cut a plea deal where he gets no jail time, and then make millions on the wingnut circuit claiming to be an Obama holocaust survivor.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
I love the idea that Obama is lashing out at his “enemies”. A pseudo-inetllectual third rate grifter and a social club in LA featuring Gary Sinise and Jon Cryer.
Anoniminous
@WereBear:
To be fair, Gingrich wife #3 is actually a robot.
Sad_Dem
D’Souza also outed gay classmates while still in college. Quite the career he’s had.
BruinKid
Wonder if Cole will chime in on this double murder in his state from a guy who shot his new neighbors on their own property, claiming he thought they were on his property.
And now it seems the victims were two elderly black men, while the shooter is white, so that opens up a whole new can of worms.
Baud
@BruinKid:
Seems to me that, in West Virginia, those facts close up the can of worms.
Botsplainer
@BruinKid:
Tragic, but it would have been interesting to be a fly on the wall the moment Bubba was informed that one of the murdered brothers had purchased the property. The deflation of smugly violent white righteousness would be instant and devastating.
Mnemosyne
@Botsplainer:
Yes, because black people who bought property in white neighborhoods have never been threatened or killed for doing it.

KG
@WereBear: if he regenerates, can he run for a third term?

” The deflation of smugly violent white righteousness would be instant and devastating. ”
Or a fury that a good law ‘bidin’ whayte man ware cawt up in som damn trik’
Edit: maybe them two got themselves into that Nobummer’s time machine and they time traveled their way onto the land, from a time when they didn’t own it, so they was not really on it when they owned it in honest-to-God right now time. See?
Belafon
@WereBear: But it’s a little disconcerting to think that Scott Brown’s election was a fixed point in time. Obama could have at least told Massachusetts to get a better candidate.
Gin & Tonic
@BruinKid: “Elderly black men?” Elderly? They were 60 and 61. Elderly? Go fuck yourself.
Citizen_X
@Botsplainer: They were at a shed that was right fucking next door to and behind his house. He knew damn well it wasn’t his shed. Who lives next door to a building and imagines, “Oh yeah, that’s mine” when it really isn’t?
aimai
@Mnemosyne: Yeah. Exactly. What makes anyone think that he didn’t know the land had been sold? Up around here they put for sale signs up and people come and look at land they are going to buy. I’d bet he knew it had been sold to them or that they were potential buyers. This is doubly the case since the shed was not on his own property and he has to have known that.
Cervantes
@WereBear:
Three wives, numerous other entanglements.
Cervantes
@BruinKid:
West Virginia’s new “Stand Their Ground” law must have come into effect.
Yatsuno
@aimai: He’s been charged with murder, so at least this won’t be a SYG case. Something tells me more details will come out as the trial goes forward.
Cervantes
Is there a real need to do this?
Incitatus for Senate
@Cervantes: I believe that’s “sit your porch” in West Virginia.
Ignaz Playel
@efgoldman: My parents had to deal with a neighbor’s shed that kind of got built 8 inches over the line into a part of our yard that was kept as a fallow field. My guess is that it might be his shed and something should have been done about its location before the property was sold. Not to excuse shooting people.
mike in dc
Wait, the fiancée’ s name is Denise? So now, presumably, Dinesh D’Souza is married to Denise D’Souza? Dear Lord.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@mike in dc: for their honeymoon, they’re going on a cruise on the Dnieper
catclub
@Yatsuno: “Something tells me more details will come out as the trial goes forward. ”
Indeed, the guy’s house had LOTS of weapons and ammo.
MikeJ
I’m guessing he shot them because they left their Subaru in his field for months.
Keith P
Glad someone else wondered what the deal was with the affair/engagement. I have yet to get any kind of confirmation if whatshername divorced her husband, or if she realized “holy shit, we’d have some FREAKY looking kids!” and came to her senses.
Citizen_X
@MikeJ: It’s West Virginia. There’s a lot of that kind of thing going on.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Hasn’t Ukraine suffered enough?
Ted and Hellen
This blog sucks when Cole isn’t posting regularly.
The back bench just doesn’t have it.
Villago Delenda Est
@Ted and Hellen:
Um, dumbass, Cole was posting like mad last night.
You can go away now, preferably forever.
Ted and Hellen
@Villago Delenda Est:
Yes, dumbass, he was. And BJ didn’t suck. And now it does again, See how that works?
Tonight is NOT last night, and last night is not now…got it?
Now go defecate down your own pie hole please.
Geeno
@Ted and Hellen: No, when Cole’s posting BJ doesn’t suck – The commenters DO!!!!
lol

When Dinesh (Lord of the Day) achieves sainthood, the circle will be complete. (Joining Brigid (Irish mother/fire goddess), Jeophat (Boddhisattva), Christopher (the original Catholic pious legend/mythological being) and Dionysius )
I relish the syncretism!
Tommy T
The Freeperati have it all figured out – it’s just like Hitler and/or Stalin:
Unfortunately for Dinesh-don’t-tell, someone in Freeperville brings up his groupie diddling, and a purity war breaks out, leaving few survivors.
sm*t cl*de
Wait, what, there’s a gay marriage in the offing?

@Comrade Jake: That voice does not match that person at all. And what the fuck do those lyrics even mean?
