Today is the 41st anniversary of Roe v. Wade. But just because something is law doesn’t mean that it’s safe, as exemplified by the Republican Party’s “War on Women.”
Just this week a group of conservatives got together to discuss how they will “stand their ground” when it comes to “anti-woman rhetoric” by pointing out Democrats who are also anti-abortion. Because that’s a mature thing to do. And a Kentucky lawmaker wants to introduce an act that classifies abortion as a form of domestic violence. Maybe the GOP should try arming fetuses instead. It’s not like they haven’t considered it.
The Morning Crew also discusses where Whole Foods gets it produce (18:29), Imani explains the Republican party (19:56), an award-winning photo sparks a massive controversy (34:35), and the Legislature consider extending the maximum age of foster care to 21 (43:00).

If Men Could Get Pregnant, Abortion Would be a Sacrament
Yatsuno
The state of Washington has the right for a woman to get an abortion in its Constitution. So it will be legal here and many women here will fight for that to the end.

Watching this I am again reminded just how smart Imani is. It is truly frightening to be honest. If we could clone her and scatter her about the country we would be an unstoppable force.

@Litlebritdiftrnt: Random thought: Imani Gandy hooking up with Richard Sherman. Think of the chillens!!!

Well, er, I just happened to read yesterday that a quarter of self-identified Democrats are anti-choice, but fully a third of self-identified Republicans are pro-choice. So if we’re digging in, our ground is standier.

@shortstop: Those Republicans won’t mind paying for a flight to a state that allows abortion if they need one, so it’s no big deal to them if the SCOTUS rules that it’s up to the states to decide.
Matt
I’d bet cash money that we don’t get through the 2016 election season without somebody in the GOP deciding that it’s OK to “Stand Their Ground” and non-fatally shoot women outside Planned Parenthood – with bonus Jeebus points if they wind up with a brain-dead “baby aquarium” like in Texas: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/08/us/pregnant-and-forced-to-stay-on-life-support.html

Sounds reasonable — more so than their other tactics.
Thanks for the links, Elon.

Here in California, we’ve had a lot of success with voluntarily continuing foster care to the age of 21. Particularly in this economy, it’s unrealistic (actually just plain cruel) to expect an 18-year-old to manage on their own without a safety net. There are services available to help with housing, job searches, and school. And of course it saves the taxpayers money, since fewer former foster kids wind up in jail, homeless, or having babies that wind up starting foster care all over again. (All of which should be enough reason even if it DIDN’T save the taxpayers money, but it does.)
