Because nothing closes a gender gap like (electronically) slapping an uppity woman:
Users have one option: Slap her for speaking.
Although several women’s rights organizations have condemned the idea, an anti-Hillary super PAC has refused to remove “Slap Hillary” from their website, allowing individuals to virtually hit the former secretary of state with a click.
The Hillary Project posted the clickable graphic earlier this week in which an animated Hillary Clinton stands outside the White House, and users can click “speak” or “slap,” cueing a graphic hand to whack her across the face. (via TPM)
The CBS story notes that the game has been online for a while — since 2000, apparently — but I for one am pleased that the leadership of the Republican Party now has its chance to condemn both violence against women as a broad social pathology and the profound and sexist disrespect to an individual with Hilary Clinton’s distinguished record of public service.

With that chorus ringing in our ears, let us close this edition of the GOP outreach chronicles.

Remember the olden days when Move on said something mean about Petraeus. We’ve come a long way since then.

Texas Launches New Legal Attack On Voting Rights Act
Sahil Kapur- August 8, TPMDC
http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2013/08/texas-brief-voting-rights-act-preclearance.php
If I understand the legal talk correctly, Texas says any imposition of perclearance under any VRA provision is unconstitutional unless things revert back to being as bad as they were in 1965 or prior years.
That will make for some nice political ads in the future.
Anything short of Jim Crow for blacks and Hispanics is ‘post-racial’ for A-OK for TX GOP.

But somebody commenting on Daily Kos once compared Bush to Hitler, so both sides do it.

Did y’all hear that Mitch’s own campaign manager was caught on tape saying that he’s “holding his nose for two years” while working for Mitch’s reelection? Good times.
SFAW
@aimai:
When have you ever thought that?
And if you have, what have you done with the real aimai?
ranchandsyrup
Some of this is residual from 2008 when the wingers were primed to beat up on hillary but had to take out their frustrations on the kenyan usurper instead. Clinton-bashing takes them back to the halcyon days of the late 90’s.
dmsilev
@EconWatcher: To be fair, it’s just hayfever; turns out the campaign manager is allergic to turtleshell.
Patricia Kayden
The fact that such a disgusting video has been out since 2000 speaks volumes about how Republicans view women. And it would be hypocritical for prominent Repubs to speak out against the video now just because it’s under scrutiny.
May Hilary win in a landslide in 2016.
Zifnab
@JPL:
Oh but that’s different. Petraeus was a national hero for doing God’s Work in the land of a thousand Mullahs, back when Republicans wanted to run him for President. But Hillary is the evil witch of the west, who has been plaguing America since her husband unfairly stole the ’92 election by way of black people voting for him, and must be slapped at every occasion lest we all start thinking she is a fellow human being.
EconWatcher
@dmsilev:
I really hope the Mitchster can survive the primaries, because I think he has the stink of a loser all over him. Usually you root for the teatard to increase your chances, but I think this race is the exception. That seat would be one sweet pickup.
Ruckus
@dmsilev:
This is my point of view as well.
How can they get any worse?
Check in tomorrow to find out.
JPL
@EconWatcher: I’m with you. The election of Rand proves that tea party candidates can win the state. I think if Mitch is damaged from the primary, that would be enough for Grimes to win. I don’t see Mitch running as an independent, if he loses. He’ll collect a hefty paycheck at Heritage.
Betsy
Another freaking brilliant move by the GOP in its re-branding effort.
Please proceed, assholes.

@Lurking Canadian:
now everybody commenting at daily kos compares obama to hitler. what a difference a decade makes, eh?
Zifnab
@EconWatcher: Na-ga-na-ha-pen.
McConnell’s seat is safe simply because Kentucky residents are all too familiar with pounding the Republican Party brand button during election season. Mitch doesn’t need to win his constituents over. He just needs to remind everyone who holds what brand label.
A crazy-enough third party contender might generate enough political apathy to make mainstream Republicans vote “couch” in 2014, but I think that’s about the best we can hope for. The GOP political machine is too well-honed for it to fail Mitch now.

Chris Mathews is calling the 2016 Republican nomination for Rand Paul. A depressing thought, if true, of how much further the GOP is falling into madness.
But Hillary would just crush him. I think. I hope. Could all the misogynist bluster make for a huge sweep?
It would be funny if the loss to Obama in 2008 led to her having unified government under her control.
IowaOldLady
I’m hoping for a third-party candidate in the 2016 election after the R’s choose Chris Christie as their nominee. That will be excellent.
But in the meantime, a teaparty third party challenge to Mitch would be a good way to pass the time.
Villago Delenda Est
Anyone? Bueller?
Chris
@dmsilev:
I don’t think they ever really get more repulsive. It’s more than the shock of the last time they were repulsive wears off as you get acclimated to the idea that yes, they really are that fucked up, and then they go and do something else that’s repulsive in a different but equally awful way and the shock comes right back.
EconWatcher
@xenos:
God is not good enough to give us Rand Paul as GOP nominee. We’d have to come up with a really, really crappy candidate to lose to him. Hillary would indeed wipe the floor with him, but I personally don’t think she’ll actually run.
Ben Cisco
You would think some of the Republican women would raise a fuss, at least.
Well, isn’t that cute…
Chris
@xenos:
There is no fucking way in hell the big money controlling the GOP will ever let Rand Paul get the nomination.
Maybe they’ll toss him the vice-presidency, if they want to continue in the tradition of giving that slot to mental lightweights with “grassroots” appeal like Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan.
Mino
OK That is awesome art.

@Chris:
Yeah. The question that needs to be answered is whether Paul goes neocon or whether the GOP goes isolationist. I don’t see either happening.

@xenos: Cynically speaking though, would a Hillary victory means that the middle and working class Americans would get a break? Would the Military and Prison Industrial get scaled back? Will the bankers be curtailed? Even if what you say is true, I doubt the Kochs and their ALEC allies will lose sleep.
piratedan
@burnspbesq: anyone for another round of “don’t pee on the electric fence”?
Chris
@? Martin:
Though the former is more likely, IMO. More likely, Paul directs his isolationist instincts strictly into attacking Obama’s foreign policy in things like Benghazi, Syria, etc, where it’ll be easy for wingnuts to agree because “even if we don’t think it’s necessarily a bad idea, I think we can all agree that Obama has done a horrible job.”
Elizabelle
I constantly get that “You are Now Less Dumb” book ad, at upper right. Have grown quite fond of the chimp smoking a pipe.
Wondering if you find the same ad on wingnut or rightwing sites? (Not enough to go look, through.)
Am thinking they won’t get the joke, or the concept …
Gin & Tonic
@EconWatcher: Andrew Cuomo could lose that race.
Jeremy
@EconWatcher: Hillary is running. It’s obvious.If she wasn’t running she wouldn’t allow big time donors to start super pacs on her behalf, and she would be totally out of the spotlight.
Add to the fact that she is polling great and could beat any of the republicans in a large landslide I doubt the she will pass on this opportunity. This is her last chance to become president and make history.

Hmmm, unless I missed it Tom, I haven’t seen your promised response to MIT’s report on Aaron Swartz. I know how alluring outrage trolling is, but please try to set a good example and post something substantial about things that matter. Thanks.
Jeremy
Despite what many believe. McConnell is very vulnerable and could very well lose his seat next year. Look what happened in ND and Indiana last year where the Democrats maintained and picked up seats.
I also believe that Ted Cruz has a great chance of picking up the nomination over Rand Paul. The guy is clearly running and is loved by the base. I don’t see Christie winning it because of his closeness to Obama and because John McCain and Romney who were not loved by the base failed to win the presidency.

@Ben Cisco: Or as I saw (somewhere?) today “Blather, Reince, Repeat.”

@Jeremy:
I’m speculating, but the SecState job is notoriously tough because of the constant travel and stress, and it appeared to take a big toll on her health. Unlike many possible candidates, she knows exactly what she’d been getting into if she ran for president. My guess is, she’ll take a look at the stellar career she’s had and take a pass. But I hope I’m wrong. I don’t see any stronger alternative.
Yatsuno
@Jeremy: The Democrats also chose a candidate who has won state-wide office in Kentucky before. And lest we forget, their current governour is alsoa Democrat. So they can certainly win there with the right people. And I think Grimes is the right people.

What is Rand Paul’s path to victory in Florida? How about NY? Michigan? How about Texas or California? I’m not even talking about the general election. I’m just curious to meet all these rank-and-file Bush / McCain / Romney voters that are going to line up to elect Rand Paul.
Paul’s father couldn’t win New Hampshire, and NH is notorious for its Libertarian voters. Show me Rand Paul winning NH, then get back to me about him winning the GOP Primary.

@Elizabelle: Yea that ad intrigued me and I went and watched the video. And bought the first book called “You Are Not so Smart” it

@The Moar You Know: There is that great part of neocon imperialism that allows us to back robustly any regime that busts the heads of its labor movement activists and protect the freedom of our large contractors to control the oil industry. There was actually a “Punch Bush” website. I used it. :-) Look it’s still there: http://www.puffgames.com/punchpresident/
There are also sites for “Slap Sarah Palin” and a Facebook page asking of a million “likes” to “bitch slap Nancy Pelosi in the face.”
I’m reminded of the old Doonesbury cartoon in which a young African American character named Curtis was caught up in a racial incident (his white friend lost his cool and called a black kid a “honky”, thus sparking a fight in the lunchroom). Afterwards, Curtis was musing to a friend “I understand black resentment. I think I’m beginning to understand white resentment. What I DON’T understand is all this emphasis on HITTING!”

Remember when every Democrat had to apologize for Hilary Rosen’s remark that Ann Romney, “never worked a day in her life?” At the time the comment took over all conversation in the presidential campaign because the republicans are experts at shooting the outrage meter to eleventeen. Every R should be asked to disavow this disgusting act.
Jeremy
@EconWatcher: I just don’t agree. We are talking about the Clinton’s here, and they never let an opportunity go. All of the things she is doing clearly shows an intention to run for president.
