A born neocon and half-sister to John Podhoretz, Jennifer Rubin does not relish domestic affairs nearly as much as the thought of nuking arabs. But when she does venture into local news her observations are just as sharp and well thought out. Maybe Rubin’s black friend told her?
It seems that with racism over now we should throw a parade or something. We just need to keep the darkies away from Victor Davis Hanson, who has a thing about those people. So maybe we should first have a parade for white people and then another parade later for the other kinds that make Hanson uncomfortable. The second parade would just take a little longer as every single person in it would get stopped and frisked repeatedly by the NYPD. And no muslims of course; Rubin just knows those guys are up to no good. ETA: Per the reliably nuts Steve King, those latino DREAM Act applicants will slow it down even more with those bales of marijuana they are all carrying.
So how do you plan to spend your racism-is-over day?

I finally figured out this particular line, because they all say it. It didn’t make sense to me why they keep screeching this because he actually does “address” those things, all the time. It’s just that he addresses them in the context of gun violence or “increasing opportunity” and conservatives don’t want to talk about gun violence or increasing opportunity.
What they really mean is “why doesn’t Obama address this issue using exactly the same words and focusing on exactly the same issues white conservatives do?”
So that’s the rule. It doesn’t “count” unless he parrots conservatives.

I’m also spending the day being pissed off at my Vet. They were using a rabies vaccination that only had to be given every three years. Same with distemper, so basically you only had to bring them in twice every three years as long as everything was OK.
Today I get an email announcing that they are switching to a new rabies vaccine because an improved formulation is available. The new vaccine is yearly. I wrote back asking how the price compared with the old vaccine. They wrote back saying that the new vaccine was actually more expensive ($25 vs $23 for old shot) so the cost of a vaccination/wellnes exam would now be $84 if no other services are required (which they so often are).
When I adopted Edward earlier this year, one of the perks I got from the shelter was a free initial exam from my vet. The free exam wound up costing over $75 before they were done.
I like my vets, but most of the original vets that worked there when I started going there have moved on, and I’m thinking of doing the same. Am I just going to find that every vet is the same now?

@Scott S.:
Define racism. Ours is different from theirs. Conservatives take it as unarguable truth that blacks are inferior to whites. They may have progressed from it being a genetic inferiority to a cultural one, but there is no question in their mind that whites should be held to one standard and blacks to another.
When we deny them that worldview, they don’t understand. They assert that we’re advancing a kind of affirmative action for minorities – asserting power that those groups haven’t earned.
Civil rights never forced them to recognize racial equity – it merely forced them to give up overt discrimination. Obama’s election and the rise of minorities as a voting force is presenting a real challenge for them. They’ll claim they’re fine with blacks and latinos, etc, so long as they individually accept the conservative worldview. Which is why Herman Cain was acceptable as a candidate, but Obama is not. If we call them on that, they claim we’re racist against Cain because Cain parrots the white supremacy view.
They’re never going to get it. They’re going to have to literally die out. White supremacy is as inviolable of a law as gravity.

Thing is it’s not just racism. It is their entire world view. If you don’t agree with them on every view point you are tearing down the very fabric of, Merica! Etc, etc, etc.
And the only cure conservatives see is that people that don’t agree with them need to die. And soon.

You jest, but I can see Racism-is-Over Day being a thing that some conservative fucksticks would try to promote. It would be one of those top-down things, they’d pick a day (maybe MLK’s birthday or something, just to be assholes) and all blog and write at once about how they know this black guy who has a nice job at a law firm and a good house in the suburbs, so there’s no racism anymore. Anywhere! Except for white people being called crackers. That still exists, and it’s the most racist thing ever.
Oh, what fun it would be! And by ‘fun’, I mean I’d want to puke through my eyeballs.
? Martin
@Ruckus: Taxes are just an extension of the white supremacy. They’re totally fine when the taxes go to services for white people. Rich people are just the trusted gatekeepers for white superiority – particularly when whites are losing voting power. You start to get a lot of wealthy minorities in this country – particularly those with political power, and the GOP will change their tune.

@Kay:
It does seem that you see and hear things these days that racists didn’t used to be so public about. I wonder how much of that is due to the internet giving any random asshole a public voice, and them knowing they’re a dying breed and deciding to go out kicking and screaming.
Like, maybe in, say, the 1970s white racists were willing to pay more polite lip service to civil rights and racial equality because they thought deep down that most people secretly agreed with them and, still, white people still had all the real power. Lately, they’re losing those reassuring thoughts, minorities are gaining real political and cultural heft (starting with the POTUS himelf, of course) so they lash out. Just a theory.
Chris
@? Martin:
There it is. You got it exactly right, but especially this one quote –
This is key.
No matter how much progress was made during the civil rights era, it never gave minorities the ultimate power; white people were still an overwhelming majority of the country (and even more disproportionately represented in all the organs of power), which meant nonwhite people were effectively still subject to their whims (as was proven with the blatant racism in the war on drugs, the incarceration rates for nonwhites, etc, which went on no matter how loudly nonwhites complained about them). But if nonwhites outnumber whites at the voting booth, that’ll no longer be the case.
That’s why conservatives are so terrified. They’re scared shitless of a country in which things like the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act can be counted on to pass not because white people were feeling generous that day, but because nonwhite people had the numbers to pass it and white people couldn’t stop it even if they wanted to.

Maybe I’m just being hopeful but that sounds like the ship is turning. As you say it is a big ship and takes time to turn and stop but it can be done. I wonder how much of it is racism? Obama of course can’t be re-elected so the next dem candidate will probably be white which if it is even partially racism can explain some of the shift. And you and I both know many whites in our age group are racist. Some of the shift may be the republican obstructionism. Some may come from people seeing that the ACA already has and will help more. Crime statistics available on line shaow black people are disproportionally the victims of violent crime. They also show that the people committing violent crimes against black people are other black people. If President Obama had been gunned down 35 years ago, the most likely shooter would have been, not a white man, not an hispanic, not a neighborhood watchman but another black man. If another young black man is shot and killed, again, the most likely shooter would be another black man. If an interracial violent crime occurs, the most likely scenario is a black perpetrator and a white victim, e.g. Eve Carson, Kenneth Newsome and Channon Christian. Yet race baiter al and race baiter jesse say white people are targeting black people for violence. That is black on white racism.
Plantsmantx
@Mike:
And when a white is murdered, the perpetrator is much, much more likely to be another white. And as far as white on black killing goes, if you don’t add killings by police to the stats, you’re being dishonest.
Jackson hasn’t been very active at all in recent years, yet you people can’t mention one without mentioning the other- “Jesseandal”. Why is that? Some whites a fervently hoping for an excuse to target black people for violence, and it’s not black-on-white racism to say so. It’s self-subjugation to white supremacy to allow yourself to be browbeaten into not saying it.
Ben Cisco
@Plantsmantx:
And this is why the bleating from the right about “black on black crime” is so much bullshit.
Also, notice that there are ONLY two times anyone on the right screams “what about black on black crime” – when they’re taking a shot at any politician from the same quadrant of space as Chicago, and to distract from conversation about a black (child or adult) being assassinated by a white (or anyone close enough to suit their purposes).

3. When you reference these gentlemen, you refer to them by only their first names, which you can’t bring yourself to capitalize.
Anything else we can add?

I’m gonna be blunt. Rubin, the GOP and Rush and the rest of their ilk think that the fact that Obama is still alive is racism. They’ve been trying to gin up the hatred so their own hands don’t get dirty and they can claim free speech.
But sometimes it feels like some bizarro Frank Capra movie where the “heroes” are in pure shock that the “villain” is winning and if they could just convince the people about the real “truth” the “villain” would be overthrown. That’s how they’re acting. It’s like they’re saying “Can’t you see? Obama is…” fill in the blank. As if somehow, people didn’t know that before or they didn’t realize that they’re supposed to hate …fill in the blank.
They haven’t figured out the rules have changed and refuse to accept it.
