From all indications, this should be a week full of news, most of it by definition either agitating or depressing or both.
While we gird ourselves, what’s on the agenda for this particular Monday?

Work, as usual. Organizing my house.
Mandela actually got me to work on my never-really done website again and I have rediscovered the joy of blogging….
Mandela Watch
Is it a bad thing that I want him to finally go? He’s suffered enough for two lifetimes between prison, power and his illness. There’s probably not enough rest now for him on this side of the grass.
Waiting for the rejection letter from Ecuador that Snowden richly deserves.

Another Monday morning. Sigh.
Personally, I’m playing the part of Grumpy Cat this morning.
Nobody likes me,
Everybody hates me!
I’m gonna eat some worms.
And other classic music. :-)

They call it Stormy Monday
But Tuesday’s just as bad.
They call it Stormy Monday
But Tuesday’s just as bad.
Lord, and Wednesday’s worse
And Thursday’s all so sad.

Starting my last week of work before retirement!
raven
@SiubhanDuinne: YAY!
CarolDuhart2
@SiubhanDuinne: Congratulations! At least you can afford to think of retirement..grumble, grumble, grumble.
Plan to just chill around the house, or do you have more ambitious plans?

Celebrating San Giovanni Day here in Firenze!

@CarolDuhart2:
I understand. I’m older than dirt and still have to have a job.Sigh.

Work.
Gonna snag Joshua Redman’s new disc today – music helps when people are busy damaging my calm.

Snowden’s not on the plane. It’s not even clear he’s been in Russia at all.
Sez The Guardian.
JPL
Today my tangled web of trees will be gone, hopefully. Two separate crews will be working since they have to carry out the rubble. I purchased power bars, bananas and powerade. When they finish the work they can have ice cream treats. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t rain!
@SiubhanDuinne: Let’s plan on having lunch to celebrate next week. I’d love to hear what you have planned.
Betty Cracker
I just had to give the mister a ride to work because he left the lights on in one of our vehicles, and when I got home, a neighbor asked if I could jump his truck because his battery is dead too. Two good deeds under my belt by 6:30 AM!

First of several weeks off; plan to call the state retirement system for an appointment. If I’m figuring correctly, with a purchase of about 2.5 years of service credit, I’ll be able to retire in four years.
Baud
@bjacques:
He’s fled into the Internet.
Tron III: Insurrection
Phylllis
@bjacques: Supposedly he is stuck in the airport in Moscow because he doesn’t have a visa. Per the Bill Press show about two minutes ago.
Baud
@Phylllis:
It’s just like that Tom Hanks movie.
Phylllis
@Baud: Snerkle.
Punchy
@Phylllis: Thats why I carry a Mastercard and Amex instead.
So….who gets fucked worse today by our SCOTUS betters, Blacks or gays?
Brother Machine Gun of Desirable Mindfulness (fka AWS)
@Punchy: I predict they’ll fuck them all on Thursday.
JPL
@Brother Machine Gun of Desirable Mindfulness (fka AWS): Let’s not forget the Supremes could dictate to schools how they will recruit students.

@CarolDuhart2:
I am glad we got to share the same air and Earth with Nelson Mandela.
I am glad he is recognized for the hero that he is, in his lifetime.
I wish his health could improve, but if it cannot, he has done very well with his allotted time.
I wish our life included more Nelson Mandelas and less Eric Cantors.
Emma
@Elizabelle: Lord, yes. Unfortunately, if my grandmother was right, Cantor will be with us for a long time because bicho malo nunca muere (the bad insects never die).

@SiubhanDuinne:
How wonderful for you! A bouquet of congratulations! I hope you are being deservedly feted by colleagues.
And nice to read some happy (personal) news to begin a week that promises such wretched (collective) news.

I have a bad feeling about the voting rights case decision today and a good feeling about DOMA but either way I think the USS stuff is going to overtake Snowden as the story by the end of the day. Oh, BTW I think Snowden’s a freaking idiot and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Greenwald was egging him along. Snowden comes across as a bit of an immature pompous ass with a martyr complex. In a way I feel sorry for him.
Maude
@Phylllis:
No one knows anything about Snowden. It’s all speculation. It gives the press something to do.

Poor old Nelson Mandela would have liked to pass away gently at home BUT the doctors got involved, so sad. I took care of this problem by legal means specifying what I want, not the family or doctors.

JR in WV
After being rear-ended on May 3, the car is still in the body-shop. Then it’ll go to the dealer to have the blown safety features (pyros they call them, the little explosions that expand airbags and tighten seat-belts) replaced. Last week they got in the rear quarterpanel to weld in, after which the bits and pieces will be attached, and it will be painted, someday.
The roofers are tearing off old roofing this morning, will start laying new roof asap, there’s a big bunch of rain in southern Indiana heading this way. Here’s hoping the roofing beats the rain to a temporary conclusion. They’re passing half-way done today… they are good about getting dried-in by late afternoon.
So there’s a little stress in the area this week. Oh, yeh, the other car has no refrigerant to make the AC work>!>!> Sweet. Welcome to summer.
ruemara
My roommate popped in last night to tell me he’d like to move sooner than the lease, which means I have to find a roommate quick and I have to finish my rebuttal to the budget that excises my position. And finish prep for my show. I don’t even feel stress or anything else, things just happen so often.

This morning NPR felt that the Snowden affair was the only thing worth broadcasting. In on hours time about 40 minutes was spent on it.
I swear the Republicans (who obviously took over NPR) diabolical plot to get me to hate NPR is working.
