NIHON GANBARE YO!!!
Bob In Portland
My internet’s slow this morning. Are these soccer games or wars?
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
Brazil needs more players named for superheroes. I want to see a holding midfielder called Luke Cage, Power Man.
MikeJ
Is the typeface on the Italian kit supposed to look 8 bit? Kinda cool. Looks to be all lc too.
Amir Khalid
Brazil and Japan seem to taking the fight to the opposition in ther respective matches. Could this portend victory for them?
@Bob In Portland:
What is sports, if not war by other means?
MikeJ
@MikeJ: To answer my question: http://www.kckrs.com/examining-italys-puma-kits-from-a-typography-perspective/

@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again):
Does Julio Cesar count for a guy being named after a superhero?
bill d
Mexico just came really close, it bounced out from hitting the post.
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
@bill d:
No, he’d be on that Brazilian team where everyone is named for historical persons, along with this guy.
bill d
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again):
LOL and don’t forget Dante, who just scored.
History’s greatest soccer team
Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again)
@bill d:
One of the current keepers on the team is Jefferson.
Ha
It is way too bad that Italy beat Japan. Japan would have been much better in the semis than Italy with all their injuries. And, it would have been interesting to see Spain vs a new team rather than the same old Italy.
Amir Khalid
@Temporarily Max McGee (soon enough to be Andy K again):
Thomas or George?
bill d
@Amir Khalid: Noodles, I think.
Randinho
Some fine defending there by Brazil – not!
bill d
@Randinho: dang missed that, watching Mexico go ahead 1-0 off of a beautiful header
Amir Khalid
Oh, poop. Japan are behind one-nil. And Italy have equalised.
Randinho
@Amir Khalid: Not for long for Italy.
bill d
@efgoldman:
It are behinded 2-0 now.
Randinho
Some goal by Fred, who hails from the same small town in Minas Gerais where my better half was born.
Amir Khalid
@efgoldman:
They are. I was going with the British style of referring to the collection of players (plural) rather than the team (singular).
tarad
Super Mario is getting mugged out there
Amir Khalid
@Amir Khalid:
And now they — Japan, that is — have pulled one back. One-two to Mexico.
taras
Mexico seems to get worse with every game they play. They better make a change soon or this will be their only trip to brasil
Amir Khalid
Mexico miss their penalty, but it looks too late for Japan to get a draw.
ETA: Just how do you miss a rebound from only four yards out?
bill d
@Amir Khalid:
English grammar shouldn’t really count when you are talking about a game between Japan and Mexico.
imho.
Amir Khalid
@bill d:
It’s all just part of the banter.

And Dilma Rousseff heaves an enormous sigh of relief….
Glad I stuck around for the second forty-five minutes after a dreary first half.
Two magnificent goals (out of four) for Brazil (one from guile, one from strength, both gorgeously skillful), but some suspect defending throughout.
Amir Khalid
Oh, let’s not forget the historic World Cup match that led to the practice of playing simultaneously the two last matches in the round-robin stage of international football tournaments.
aretino
Don’t forget Gladstone
Bill Murray
@bill d: nope
