VIVA ITALIA!!!

Was it just a few years ago–heck, less than that even–that Mexico was seen as a team that would “make some noise” in the World Cup? Now, everyone and their mother is picking Belgium as a dark horse candidate and Mexico… El Tri is not scoring *at home*, much less against other teams. Gio Dos Santos looks at least a step slower than the guy who terrorized my beloved USMNT in the Gold Cup at the Rose Bowl.
As for Italy… I really think this coming year will be a big one for Balotelli; he’s just too talented. As a Man City fan, I’ll miss him but I don’t blame him for leaving–he loved the team, the manager, the teammates and practice… and hated everything else about England, especially the press. I haven’t switched the game on but I’m picking Italy 2-0.
Randinho
In answer to my question, yes, but not in the way they wanted.

@Randinho:
Well, they just equalized, so there’s that. (But it was on a penalty kick.)

Pirlo.
Can’t defend, can’t run all that well, useless in the air… but could place a ball on a dime from distance. He’s almost useless in any other sport but in this, he is invaluable. I root against the Italian team every chance I get but if you don’t like Pirlo, you don’t like futbol.

It’s not just that Mexico is drawing its home WCQs, it’s the way they’re drawing them.
They couldn’t take advantage of a (at the time, less so now) highly suspect US defense.
They were pretty clearly outplayed by Costa Rica last Tuesday. A post and a big-time save, or they lose two-nil.
They aren’t creating anything on offense.
As a Galaxy fan, the dos Santos-to-LA talk disturbs me, because on his current form he’s not an upgrade.

@burnspbesq:
As a Galaxy *and* USMNT fan, it disturbs me too, and would even were he the best fucking player in the world :P
sb
@burnspbesq: It’s gotta be coaching, right? That team was hitting on all cylinders–everybody playing to their max potential and now they are just a drip of a team (granted I’m DVRing today’s game–for all I know, they’re playing great).
Dos Santos… at this point, as a Galaxy fan, I’d welcome a different DP. The Dos Santos of two years ago I would have paid ten million for. But not now.

Mexico vs. Italy. Can’t both teams lose?
Thlayli
Really not a fan of Mexico’s green shirt/red shorts look.
I can’t remember the last time I saw Balotelli without a Mohawk. He looks like Tracy Morgan now.
Mexico looks terrible in the back. I’ll be surprised if Italy doesn’t score again.

Mario Balotelli’s got to watch his temper. He’s twenty years too old to be throwing toddler tantrums.
Randinho
What a goal by Balotelli!
@Linnaeus: FTW!
Mr Stagger Lee
Watching this on Univision. GOL…GOL…GOL!!!!
Haydnseek
@sb: He plays soccer. Is there any compelling reason why he has to be useful in any other sport? Babe Ruth could hit home runs, but he would have been a really shitty jockey…….
Amir Khalid
I see that Liverpool FC’s problem child Luis Suarez is starting for Uruguay. Will there be any Spaniards on the menu today?

@Mr Stagger Lee: Watched the game in a laundromat on Univision. Highly recommended, in spite of the outcome.
