OT, and may have been posted elsewhere, but apparently, the building inspector who signed off on the building demolition in Philly has committed suicide. (Warning: auto-play video)
A veteran inspector who surveyed a downtown building weeks before it collapsed, killing 6 people, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound a week after the accident, authorities said Thursday.
Ronald Wagenhoffer, 52, was found shot in the chest in a pickup truck around 9 p.m. Wednesday. A longtime employee with the Department of Licenses and Inspections, Wagenhoffer had inspected the building May 14 and signed off on demolition work underway, after getting complaints about the site from the public, Deputy Mayor Everett Gillison said.

Ghost Brothers of Darkland County is a musical written by novelist Stephen King with music by rock musician John Mellencamp and production by T-Bone Burnett. It debuted at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia in 2012.
Um….no. Sounds… something.

Let me put in a plug for the 6 episode BBC drama Broadchurch with David Tennant.
“Broadchurch, which also co-stars Arthur Darvill and BAFTA winner Vicky McClure, tells the story of two detectives (Tennant and Colman) who are investigating the suspected murder of an 11-year-old boy in seaside resort town in Britain. “Broadchurch focuses on a small British community which finds itself at the eye of a storm,” says writer/creator Chris Chibnall. “In the wake of one boy’s death, the residents of Broadchurch come under scrutiny and suspicion. It’s a story of scale and intimacy, as the lives of the characters are laid bare.”

Bill Clinton is correct when he says that you can’t let opinion polls be your guide to foreign policy. But when he compares the situation in Syria to the situation he faced in Kosovo, he’s making one of the stupidest statements that I have ever heard from him…
First of all, the idea that the United States can “cause” a calamity in Syria is ridiculous. It is already a calamity, and it’s not because of our inaction. And the idea that all we need to do to fix the calamity and solve the refugee problem is to “drop a few bombs” is beyond idiotic.
For Clinton to appear with John McCain and make comments like this is a perfect vindication of my total opposition to his wife’s candidacy for president. We cannot afford more leadership from people who think about American power in this way. Obama has already overruled the advice of Hillary Clinton, the Joints Chiefs of Staff, then Director of the CIA David Petraeus, and then Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, and kept us out of the conflict in Syria. Now he has the former president intimating that he’s a wuss and a fool.
This is what we gained when we won the presidency for Obama. A cool head.

IMHO, the reason Yugoslavia’s worked out so well as it has (for the moment) has a lot to do with being right on NATO/the EU’s doorstep. It means major powers that have a long term vested interest in stabilizing the region, and the prospect of EU membership as an incentive, with all the benefits that that brings, for the parties involved.

Listening to it now, and it’s not doing much for me. T-Bone Burnett is in a rut as a producer, and his old-timey fixation was responsible for the worst album of 2012, Diana Krall’s “Glad Rag Doll.”
He hasn’t hit a home run since Alison Krauss and Robert Plant back in 2007.

My last dog was wonderful – he was a tiny fluffball with milk teeth that showed up on our porch – nobody claimed him, but we may not have covered the neighborhood with signs well enough. He grew into a very large Groenendael (think Tervuren, but the predominant hair color is black), clearly full blooded but the Shaquille O’Neal of the breed size wise (still weighed over 100 when he died) He was a big, smart, happy boy who had a long life and broke our hearts when “that day” happened.
He loved his family, opened doors, shared my egg plates and empty cottage cheese containers, followed me everywhere and is sorely missed.

I have a love/hate thing with BBCA, there really isn’t any need to run STNG all afternoon. there’s so much good UK stuff they own and could put on.
And before Dr Who got big, the episodes were longer since they didn’t have to deal with US commercials.
There really are shows that shouldn’t be watched with commercials. The doctor and the Walking Dead, for instance.
I pay for cable and end up using torrent anyway, even DVRing it and FFing is annoying.
Others shows like Top Gear it doesn’t matter

The Federal Government is the biggest group of tyrants, murderers, and hypocrites in the world today. It’s no different from the USSR of 1980 and it should meet the same fate-hopefully someday it will collapse under its own weight and what is now the American empire can regroup into regional, independent nations (based upon the principles of self-determination) under a very loose confederation of friendship rather than the centralized, tyrannical Federal Government.
Several free nations could arise from the ashes, such as:
*The Republic of Texas
*The Republic of Dixie
*The Californian Federation
*The City-State of New York
etc. It would be better for all involved.

Republicans initially rejected the expansion. But they let it come up after Brewer made good on threats to veto all bills until the GOP-led legislature adopted the Obamacare-based expansion. She even threatened to oust Republican leaders if they blocked the measure.
The favorable votes in the legislature came from Democrats and a coalition of moderate Republicans, according to the Associated Press. Conservatives vigorously oppose the expansion, seeing as an endorsement of Obamacare.

My wife and I thought about trying to get tickets.
FWIW, I would go if maybe Mellencamp shows up and brings along Meg Ryan, who has moved in with him and is living in Mellencamps place down on Lake Monroe south of Bloomington. They occasionally show up at basketball games. He is a big supporter of the Athletics program, donated over a million dollars for construction of the indoor practice facility about 10 years ago. Got to see him then because he came to the dedication ceremony.
A friend of mine owns a popular foreign car repair shop here in town, and does work on all Mellencamp’s vehicles. But of course Mellencamp’s staff bring them in for work. My friend and his staff were trying to persuade the Mellencamp aides to get Ryan to come pick up her vehicle recently, so they could meet her.

I have been more entertained by one hour of Open University’s teach yourself Portuguese show at 2am on the BBC mothership than I have been in many weeks of BBCA viewing. Although I do like Doctor Who.

@TaMara (BHF):

Felonius Monk
No, but I think I had a very similar growth removed a few months ago. Fortunately, it was benign.

Why, after all, should the people of Texas be forced to live under an ultra-centralized government with the people of California, who have entirely different interests and political views? It makes no more sense than forcing Uzbekistan under a tyrannical Union with Russia (ie the USSR).

Regarding the “new war” — when did supplying additional types of material to one side or the other in a civil way turn into entering a brand new war?
When did 80s USA turn into Soviet-style gulag?
