Attention Google Reader Refugees

Some people are reporting that the Balloon Juice RSS feed is “broken” in NewsBlur after migrating from Google Reader. The issue is that somewhere in the transfer between NewsBlur and Google, NewsBlur gets a url like this:

https://www.balloon-juice.com/feed/

The correct URL is

http://www.balloon-juice.com/feed/

Note the “http” instead of the “https”. Either edit the feed in your feed reader, or delete and re-add it, and you should be all set.

    Gotta keep the McCain caught palling around with terrorists issue going.

    From the previous open thread:

    If Obama had done this — even as a senator — our media would have blasted it from the rooftops without pause for as as long as it took to destroy his career. But since McCain did it, no big deal, move on you libtard, nothin’ ta’ see here.

    Also too, Sen. Waytoobigferyerbritches, ya think something similar might happen if we started giving weapons to the rebels? Ya think some terrorists might come up and say, “We’re good honest Syrians fighting Ass-add, not terrorists, so give us some hardware, the bigger the better!” And ya think even a Sen. Waytoobigferyerbritches might not know who they were, and might give them some weapons?

    Q for the day: Is what McCain did “material support of terrorism”?

    @BrendanL79: It worked for me, I just deleted the site, and entered the feed address manually (ignoring the auto-suggested “https://”, which I accepted the first time I tried).

    Have to say, apart from this one hiccup, I’m a huge fan of NewsBlur. I tried Feedly at least twice, and liked it but kept reverting to Google Reader when I was in a hurry. Adapting to NewsBlur took about fifteen minutes, and it seems natural whether I’m in “fast scan” or “leisurely browse” mode. Worth the $2/month, and I haven’t tried the training features yet.

    Whoa, that’s cold. Women just get tired of always being on married duty at this point of their lives. I’m right in that demo, and I see it all around me, and mostly it’s women wanting to leave just to have their own space, not for another guy. The guy usually leaves for another woman who treats him like his wife used to treat him. It’s a shock though. Don’t make any quick decisions.

    Thank you all for your kind thoughts. At the moment I have that “How much acid did we take?” feeling. My wife had open heart surgery in December and I think that led her to think about who she is and what she wants from the rest of her life. She’s an intelligent person and I’m confident that she thought this through. Living with someone is rarely easy and I can understand that she might want to be her own person before its too late.

    For the moment I am being very careful. I do not want to fall into any of the traps that I might and I don’t want to do anything unseemly like wreck my car or write bad poetry.

  69. 69
    Shakezula says:

    @WereBear: Yes this. You don’t want to be in a position where someone (debt collector, whatever) comes at you years later because an i wasn’t dotted.

    So I guess, when life gives you lemons, get a lawyer.

    Edit: Writing bad poetry is acceptable; making other people read/listen to bad poetry is an unforgivable crime.

  70. 70

    sacrablue says:

    @Higgs Boson’s Mate: So sorry for your pain. Please don’t sign away anything yet. Open heart surgery patients frequently suffer from depression following surgery, no matter how intelligent they may be. With treatment she may change her wishes…unless this is what you feel you have to do.

  74. 74
    Mnemosyne says:

    @Higgs Boson’s Mate:

    Oh, geez, now I remember your whole post-surgery story with your wife. That was horrific for you. You’re a vet, right? Don’t forget that the VA has free counseling available for you — there’s probably a whole support group for guys your age in the same situation. If not there, a local hospital probably has support groups, too.

    Go ahead and write bad poetry — just make sure to do it in longhand so you can burn it afterwards rather than putting it online where it will live on forever.

    ETA: We will all hope for you that this works out the way it did on “Modern Family,” where the mom (Shelley Long) leaves to “find herself” and the dad gets to marry Sofia Vergara.

  75. 75
    Ruckus says:

    @Higgs Boson’s Mate:
    Sorry about that.
    I have started pretty much completely over three times, but only once included a long term breakup. And last year I got told by my (now ex) family that I had to get out and work till I die. And I’m only a year younger than you.
    So, life is tough but starting over can be done. I mean if I can, anyone can.
    And once again, I am sorry for you and anyone who has to start a new life, especially at our age. Good luck.

    Not that you need moral support, but I did a very similar thing a long time ago in a Buick Electra. Everything worked out, and I never looked back.

    …and signing away my rights to everything else

    Nobody’s business but yours, but I don’t think most people would do that.

  79. 79
    Higgs Boson's Mate says:

    @Mandalay:
    I spent a few years as a gypsy machinist living mostly in a ’57 VW transporter (Bus). I know the drill. The rest of the stuff means little to me. I have a very modest bit of income that can’t be taken away. My wife’s income dwarfs mine so I’m not going to do more than separate our finances.

  80. 80
    Mandalay says:

    @Higgs Boson’s Mate: I’m not telling you to make lemonade, and don’t take this the wrong way (it is meant as a compliment), but you really seem far better equipped to deal with this situation than most.

  81. 81
    Ruckus says:

    @Higgs Boson’s Mate:
    Having started out in that profession a long, long time ago I find that seasoned machinists are even rarer than 30-40 years ago. That’s what I’m doing again and I last worked in a machine shop 19 years ago. Hell now the shop owner gets mad at me when I pick up a vice, he has apprentices for that.

  82. 82
    WereBear says:

    @Higgs Boson’s Mate: I feel better knowing you are a machinist; that is a rare skill and still sought after.

    Not like you are a ballerina. Then you’d be in a world of hurt.

    Godspeed, and keep us posted.
