I’ve thought Psych has sucked for the most part his season, but the “Office Space” episode where Gus mangles his boss’s murder scene has had me in tears. I got hysterical during the Gus initial description, and have been giddy since. Being this cheesy and still pulling it off is kind of a feat.

Cole, I think you might be the target audience for the “Ironside” relaunch.
Yikes.

Has anybody been watching Rectify on Sundance Channel?
Absolutely awesome series.

“Psych” has not been that good at all this year. I’m tired of the Jules/Sean romance drama. Sean as an eternal love-sick, kicked puppy dog is incredibly boring.
If I wanted to watch a c-list romcom, I’d rent a Katherine Heigl movie.

Cole’s constant posts about what he watched on Netflix reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2KYHLLIRYk

Surpirsingly, this word appears only twice in the new testament, once in acts and once in the first epistle of peter: Answer:
I Just stumbled across this question through jeopardy. Guesses?

Anyone here a baseball fan? Mike Trout hit for the cycle tonight – the youngest player in the AL to do so. Woohoo!!

P.S. I am an atheist, but this was interesting.

@dewzke: I know, but it’s a bit of a cheat. It came up in my Greek language class. Also an atheist. Also found interesting.
dewzke
I think this is a straight forward dictation from the bible…no moderation deserved.
? Martin
Let’s see if any of the theists know the answer. Or if only the atheists know the New Testament so well…
dewzke
@? Martin: I don’t know much but this was a Jeopardy Question that I liked from today. You got the answer? I sure as shit didn’t!
dewzke
Well, booya!
John Cole
So what’s the damned answer?
dewzke
Christian.

I would have never have thunk it.

I’m not gonna doubt Trebek by scouring that old scroll…they have people to do that…but wow!

@dewzke: It’s a bit of a trick question. The word is ‘joy’. But it’s not so simple. There are 3 greek terms used: χαρά – which basically means to rejoice. There’s εὐφροσύνη which is taken to mean joy or happiness, and then there’s ἀγαλλίασις, which is generally taken to be euphoria. The former two tend to be used in secular settings, where the latter is in relation to worship. It’s the 2nd term which is translated as ‘joy’ which appears only twice and is used primarily for general conditions of joy – such as when Cole tells us he’s happy with his pets watching the Steelers. The first term is usually taken as an expression to news – so, learning that a loved one wasn’t killed in the tornado would elicit happiness in this way. I believe this is relatively common – some small event happened (someone was healed) and people rejoiced. That kind of thing. The last one is for big divine intervention kinds of stuff – where people are overwhelmed with happiness. Parting of seas level stuff.
We were doing some translation of the NT and it was an opportunity to compare the usage of terms. I think I got that laid out correctly based on my review of Strong’s. It’s been a while.

@dewzke: Ah. Different answer. But that’s not surprising either.

I’m just repeating what the Alex Trebek said….I am non scholar but that was silly wild what he said. True? I guess I’ll check unless you all know better. But I don’t remember fourth grade bible class which i dropped out of! Help me out, here.

just happy that there will be a reincarnation of a new Whose line is it anyway? coming this summer to the CW. Yes Stiles, Mochrie and Brady all look a bit more distinguished, but it’s hard to find a group of more consistently funny people on TV anywhere.
dewzke
Well, I thought that answer on Jeopardy was interesting. Dumb ass that I am.
dewzke
opinions?
? Martin
@dewzke: It is interesting. It’s not too surprising because the early christians didn’t call themselves as such. That was a name that basically the Romans came up for them some time later – something of a pejorative, in fact. Kind of like ‘Moonie’. So within their own documents it’s not too surprising to see it infrequently mentioned.
dewzke
Really, a pejorative?
dewzke
Now I’m dumb and old…what is a moonie?
dewzke
J/k…just regional for them?

If you’re a fan of the 80’s punk rock, you should watch this video from FLAG, featuring Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson, Dez Cadena formerly of Black Flag, and Stephen Egerton from the Descendents/All, doing My War.

Ohhh, I was flipping channels and they’re replaying the Frontline piece on the DOJ and the bankstas not getting sued. I just want to grab Lanny Breuer’s lying little face through the teevee and slap the shit out of him. And then make him do a freaking perp walk for malpractice.

Given that what we think of as the bible today was compiled in the 17th Century by a politically motivated hierarchy mostly from 15th & 16th Century edits of scraps of documents known to have been written no earlier that a couple of hundred years after the deaths of the purported authors and their subject I wouldn’t be surprised.
Besides, the followers of the Christ would not have called themselves “Christians” as they were Jews right up until a smart marketing guy sold his version to the Greeks.
That said, having read the thing more than once I didn’t get that one right.

@dewzke:
Haven’t you seen “Demetrius and the Gladiators”? Jay Robinson as the emperor Nero says “Christians” with a dripping contempt that I don’t think even Balloon Juice denizens could summon. I bet it’s on YouTube.
ETA: I mean Caligula. Duh. The whole film is on YouTube, but I was hoping there’d be a clip just with him saying “Chris-tee-ahns.”

Psych has sucked this year

@cbear:
Yeah, I loved Rectify. It’s been picked up for another season.
Slow pace; evocative; interesting (and reserved) characters.
Wonderful cinematography. Real sense of place and time. With enough creepiness and foreboding to stay tuned.
