That business has been at the top of the site long enough.
Meet Bubbles. Her owners’ three year old got the responsibility of naming her, and he only knows so many words, so Bubbles has a bit of a Boy Named Sue situation to overcome. So far she seems to be taking it well.
***Update***
Of course by ‘that business’ I mean Sullivan, not the post I just stepped on. Sorry Doug.

Bomb’s away in Oklahoma City.
Yatsuno
MAXPUPPEH!!!
Other than that I just wanna go home.

Her ears are fab.

Allowing young children to name pets is a crime against humanity. However, this joke never gets old. Last night I came home late and blew bubbles. Bubbles is my dog.
Chunks works as well. : )

Disgusted but not surprised, the Village always takes care of its own. Sullivan:
a reporter lying– he said he had “obtained” and “reviewed” emails that didn’t exist– about a major political story is a “petty” thing. I don’t like what the DOJ did with the AP or with Rosen, but if the media really can’t figure out why Obama and a whole lot of other people don’t like them, look at Jonathan Karl, then look in the fucking mirror
MikeJ
@raven: Wow. Nothing standing.
catclub
Wait a minute, a girl dog named Bubbles? Why is this a ‘Boy Named Sue’ situation? Because Doberman and shutup?
Now if the kid had named her Beverly Sills but she could not sing, then you would have more a Girl Named Tosca, type problem.
catclub
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: “so far as I can see”
which apparently is not very far when Sully only deigns to peek out from under Maggie Thatcher’s skirt.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@MikeJ: Holy mother of god. Two school buildings utterly obliterated. I think and hope I see kids walking around.
catclub
@MikeJ: Not even the link.
raven
@MikeJ: S
School’s flattened in Moore, OK.

If I believed in deities I would think that one of them has a big problem with OKC. This looks pretty devastating.
Higgs Boson's Mate
Oklahoma is an Open Carry state. Why didn’t they just shoot the tornadoes?
raven
Proly a good time to lay off the bullshit snarky remarks.
flukebucket
I have received an email from 5 gunners that I know raising hell about the gun bill that was defeated but will be coming back for another vote. There are many “examples” on the email but I am just going to share one and ask if anybody knows if there is any truth to this at all:
EXAMPLE #1
Loaning your buddy a shotgun for a duck hunting trip will be considered a transfer. If the following requirements are not met, YOU HAVE BOTH COMMITTED A FEDERAL CRIME.
1. He or she must have already purchased their hunting license
2. Season is already open (and will not close before he returns it)
3. He cannot travel with the firearm through a county where season is not yet open or any area where hunting is prohibited and certainly not across a state line.
He CANNOT stop by your house on the day before season opens, pick up the shot gun, go to the sporting goods store to buy a license and shells then drive out to the hunting lease. In this scenario, YOU BOTH WOULD HAVE COMMITTED MULTIPLE FEDERAL CRIMES, YOUR WEAPONS WILL BE FORFEITED AND YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR RIGHT TO BUY OR OWN A FIREARM.
True or bull shit?
gogol's wife
God help them.

Where does soonergrunt live?

Maaaxxx!
It sounds like two elementary schools may have been hit by a tornado in Oklahoma a bit ago. Video is pretty intense.
ETA: I see we’ve already been talking about it. Link is live, though.
gogol's wife
@raven:
I was wondering that too.
raven
@TaMara (BHF): One elementary one high school via MSNBC.

Mon Dieu. Positive thoughts for the citizens of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma looks pretty bad. Here’s hoping people sheltered well. Homes can be rebuilt.
So how much fatter does this make Al Gore?
gelfling545
My sister’s pit bull (now residing among the morning stars) was named Petunia. We have a tradition of being non-traditional, as it were, in pet names.
Trollhattan
re. Okla: cripes, I see video from different helis in different regions, and the accumulated damage is staggering. Good luck, you folks.
TaMara (BHF)
@raven: I was listening to the KFOR helicopter pilot, he may have been a bit panicked – it’s near his home and kids.
TaMara (BHF)
@gelfling545: I had friends who named all their cats after vegetables. Zuke, Tator, Baga (rhutabaga)….
raven
@TaMara (BHF): MSNBC has been wired into some chopper, NBC affiliate I would assume. The usual need to commentate non-stop is already prompting incredibly stupid statements by the yackers.
David Koch
that twister was worst than Watergate.
Also too, it was obummer’s fault
? Martin
Ran straight over a hospital. Looks like it held up pretty well structurally. Lots of windows and glass in hospitals, though.
catclub
@flukebucket: I bet it is all true. [If it was an illegal sawed off shotgun.]
No exaggerations anywhere. No all caps used for emphasis. Must be true.
Violet
I have a friend who lives in OKC. Think they live slightly north of that, but need to see if I can get in touch with her.
Trollhattan
@TaMara (BHF):
They pulled back on a shot that looks a little like the path of Hurricane Andrew (which was very compact for a hurricane). Wide brown trail miles long, cutting right through a city.
raven
Spokesman saying the schools are not Moore, they are South OK City.
raven
@Trollhattan: Yea, the big clusters of overturned vehicles do too.
TaMara (BHF)
@raven: They are still listing two elementary schools (Briarwood and Plaza Towers) on the local news, and now a theater, a daycare center and now a horse farm with 75-100 dead horses.
http://kfor.com/2013/05/20/tornado-wipes-out-homes-schools-businesses-in-moore/
I’m going to have to stop listening….yikes. This might be pretty awful.
David Koch
CNN is concerned whether obummer will call it a terrorist act or an act of terror
raven
@TaMara (BHF): Yea, I’m sure there is going to be a great deal of misinformation.
TaMara (BHF)
The interview with the horse farmer was heartbreaking.
Roger Moore
I wonder how much aid to the poor we’re going to have to cut to pay for FEMA cleanup.
raven
Now this guy on MSNBC is saying it is the worst tornado damage in the history of the world.
eta Local guy.
MikeJ
@Roger Moore: All of it, Katie.
TaMara (BHF)
@raven: They just showed both elementary schools, leveled. I don’t know the area well enough to know Moore or S OK City (I know OKC and Edmond and that’s about it).
Jim, Foolish Literalist
Just a reminder if anyone is planning to give to Red Cross or orgs like it: Earmarking your donation can slow things down.
SarahT
@catclub:One of our family pets was actually named “Bubbles” after Beverly Sills ! She was an awesome little Schnauzer and she did love “singing’ (along with sirens and lawnmowers, mostly).. We also had another mini-Schnau named “Grover” (as in ‘Sesame Street”, not Cleveland) and she was equally awesome, though less of a singer than Bubbles
MikeJ
Wow. They’re telling people that interior closet won’t be enough.
raven
@TaMara (BHF): Hopefully with hours of advance warning the kids were gone.
Heliopause
Another big one in the OKC area, another one north of Tulsa.
Trollhattan
Don’t know about you folks but if I see a giant black cloud extending to the ground, I’m driving AWAY from it.

@MikeJ:
Clearly, an assault on Louis Gomert’s asparagus.

I expect Inhofe and colburn will reject federal relief given how they BOTH voted against Sandy relief.
raven
Not sounding good at the schools.
TaMara (BHF)
@raven: They’re saying kids were on lockdown and they are pulling kids out of one of the schools now. I hope that’s wrong – but the reporter was pretty shook up.
JPL
@TaMara (BHF): I was listening to that. How terribly sad for those covering the storm.
raven
@TaMara (BHF): Saying 75.
Joseph Nobles
@flukebucket: Even if the situation as described violated federal laws, the likelihood of such a small thing actually being prosecuted is small. Nobody cares if somebody loans their friend a rifle to go hunt with. That’s just torture porn for gun nuts.
Amir Khalid
I’ve heard that twisters like this are unique to a particular region of the US, and don’t happen anywhere else on Earth. Over here, I’ve never seen anything bigger than a dust devil myself.
Off topic, but regard for grammar seems to be a thing of the past at Salon: they’re running the Associated Press story on the Oklahoma tornado, under the headline
Subject, object, but no verb.
And just as I’m about to hit (Submit Comment), Salon goes and changes it. Dang.
gelfling545
@TaMara (BHF): All my sister’s animals were flowers. Along with Petunia she had the cat, Cosmos & the Basset Hound, Magnolia.
Mnemosyne
@Amir Khalid:
They’re uncommon in other parts of the US, but they do happen. There was one in Northern California a couple of months ago.
The folks in the Plains States like Oklahoma are in what they call Tornado Alley, though, so they get hit several times a year. It’s sort of like the way earthquakes are common in California but technically could happen anywhere in the world.

Wow. Flickr has just completely pooched itself with a combination of an atrocity of a redesign and an insane change in their pricing structure. Apparently this is what Yahoo’s CEO meant when she said she wanted to make Flickr “awesome” again. Way to make it awesomely suck.
Been a Pro member for 5 years and just re-upped, but after this monstrosity I’m seriously considering demanding a refund and looking for an alternative.
