Sitting here with both dogs on my lap, a saline drip, cold compress, and two gallons of pedialyte, trying to recover from the last three days.
One of the funniest things Maher said last night was a riff on how a certain element of the GOP just can’t deal with Obama as President- “There is something different about him that I just can’t put my finger on! What makes him so different from the previous Presidents that would drive them insane? There’s a word they want to use, but just can’t, so they start screaming things like SOCIALIST. Ask them what a socialist is, and they tell you ‘I dunno, but I think they like fried chicken.'”
The whole night was that funny.

Best night of teevee in a long, long time. So many people I love to hate.
Comrade Mary
Did the site just hiccup? I’m sure that’s my fault. Slap my butt and call me Typhoid Mary of the Servers.
cathyx
I know so many people who are racist who would completely deny being one.
Comrade Mary
Ah. Doug bigfooted John, then deleted the post.
Creepy :-)
Baud
I hate the new site design.
cathyx
@Baud: I’m assuming your trying to be funny, because it doesn’t look any different to me. And if you are, it’s an old tired joke that needs to be retired.
lamh35
5 days until Iron Man 3! Which one of u Iron Man-Stans gonna be at the midnight showing?
Damn!

BBC America is showing the Tom Baker era Pyarmid’s of Mars, if anyone’s interested.
Baud
@cathyx:
I blame Obama.
Suffern ACE
@Comrade Mary: I know. Anyway, I don’t have time to wait around for Dougj to repost. So when he does, could you mock her for writing about “the old ways” in reference to Clinton? I’m fairly certain tgat ain’t how they felt about the southern upstart and his lesbian wife at the time.
Gin & Tonic
@cathyx: That joke is always funny.
cathyx
@Baud: And that’s the #1 old tired joke that needs to be retired.
Comrade Mary
@efgoldman: It’ll be back, and we can all laugh and laugh and laugh at Nooners. Or cry.
Ted & Hellen
That Maher joke wasn’t funny at all, Cole. It was lame.
Your alcohol abuse is destroying your sense of humor as well as your body.

@cathyx:
I think that one’s got three and a half more years to go before retirement.

This must explain Sarah Palin’s hissy fit. She didn’t have a problem attending the after party in 2011.
The RWers hate that so many talented comedians and writers are willing to share their talents for Democratic pols.
cathyx
@Baud: It’s said on every topic that is posted here, no matter the subject. Probably by you.

I hate what will be the new design, because that’s what hipsters do.
Unless it’s based on GoT. Which I don’t have, because I don’t have cable.
You people living in the backcountry, it’s so rich of you to rub it into those of us living in the big city.
Baud
@cathyx:
I wish I could say that in every thread. I gotta work during the day.
askew
It’s not just elements of the GOP that has that issue with Obama. Plenty of progressives have the same problem, but we aren’t supposed to comment on that.
As for TV, you can keep your GoT. I am watching Veep. Funniest show on TV. Julia Louis-Dreyfus deserves the Emmy for this role. Mad Men is so bad this year that it is hard to stick with it.
raven
I’m posting this again
If you haven’t seen Call the Midwife I can’t say enough about it. They tackled illegal abortion and contraception in a very effective way tonight. I’m actually surprised it’s on Georgia Public TV.

Did you know that closed-captioners rewrite “Jason Terry” as “dysentery”? That’s what I get for trying to watch the Knicks-Celtics game at the gym.

@efgoldman: WordPress is worth every penny that site admins pay for it.

Mr. Selfridge was really good tonight, especially since Jeremy Piven slept through most of it.

@cathyx: Oh hey look, CathyX is all up in your busy body!
Mr Stagger Lee
Been watching Spiral on Netflix, a French version of Law and Order. Has anyone seen that Hemlock Grove yet?
BethanyAnne
Hey, FridayNext, if you’re watching, Shireen showed up! Still no Patchface, but I loved what her character did.
Tokyokie
There’s a billboard alongside I-35 heading south, a little north of Waco (and south of West, but north of South by Southwest), that has a big, scary picture of Obama and the words, “SOCIALIST BY CONDUCT.” I pretty much said to the spousal unit (who’s an immigrant, so she misses a lot of dog whistles), what Maher implied in his joke.
JPL
@Mr Stagger Lee: I saw the first episode on the 19th instead of watching the 24/7 media coverage of the bombers in Boston. If you want blood and guts in the first 45 seconds of the show, this will fulfill those desires.
Elizabelle
Caught “The Bletchley Circle” on PBS tonight. Like it.
Bobby Thomson
@Gin & Tonic: I blame Obama.

@BethanyAnne: Shireen showed up! Still no Patchface, but I loved what her character did.
That was a pretty nifty job of encapsulating Shireen’s problem (not her fault), which gives one the sources for Selyse’s uh, mental malfunction, which did a good job of explaining the Red Woman, which finally nails down why Stannis is currently bugfuck.
And Tywin is obviously a bastard, but he’s so much of a better bastard than the rest of his family. And you’d think Loras was Cersei’s type.
They really have set up for the ending of the season well. It’s going to be four weddings and about six thousand funerals.
max
[‘Pity about Robb though.’]
patroclus
I don’t think Loras is going to be too interested in Cersei. And I don’t think Robb Stark should trust Walder Frey.
John Casey
@max: Margery is going to set some kind of record for the ratio of number of marriages vs days married.

@gene108: I wish they’d start running old Doctor Who’s that I can’t watch for free on Amazon Prime. I still don’t know how the Doctor met Leela or Sarah Jane or how the third Doctor died. And what was the deal with the ginger companion? And was the Sixth Doctor really as bad as everyone says?
Oh well. The docs are nice.

@askew:
I think she already won the Emmy for it. She seems to be playing it more Biden-like this year. With all the schmoozing and verbal diarrhea.
BethanyAnne
@max: Yeah, it all seems to be spiraling around quite nicely. I liked Jaime’s exposition on the Kingslaying.

Ask them what a socialist is, and they tell you ‘I dunno, but I think they like fried chicken.’”
Creepy.

@lamh35:
My wife has a big woody for RD Jr. I will be left home to watch Arclite Jr. while wife and daughter go to the movies.

@raven:
Agreed. Especially that last part where the doctors saved her life without turning her in. That’d never happen in America.
Augie
@askew: Nice. I like the “both sides do it” equivalency here. That’s excellent trolling.
Onihanzo
If Maher actually said that, he stole that joke word for word from Bobcat Goldthwait’s 2012 special.
kindness
GoT was packed last night, just packed. Not one moment was wasted. It went from one important story arc to another in rapid fire succession the whole show.
Nice. But….Moar Dragons please. btw – what tasty treat does one feed a dragon to be friends with it without becoming the treat?
Rex Everything
Off the subject, but that stereotype has always made me wonder: Does anyone NOT like fried chicken? Liking fried chicken is just a sign of cognizance & basic sanity.

@srv:
You can watch GOT on Amazon for $1.99 per ep. Cheaper than a cable channel and spread out over, what is it 14-15 weeks. I don’t have cable either but manage to see most of the premium cable shows I like.
