I like Scocca’s article, but it leaves out one huge thing– Michael Kelly was the quintessential Villager, born and bred. Kelly had a column in the WaPo, needless to say. In addition, his mother, Marguerite Kelly, has a column in the WaPo, on– of all things– parenting.
I somehow doubt that any WaPo editor approached Marguerite saying, “You know, your son turned out to be a liar and a bully– and he bears considerable responsibility for the Iraq catastrophe. Maybe your parenting advice isn’t really what we need in this newspaper.”

@efgoldman: Not really. Whomever’s trying to kill me is going to have to try a lot harder next time.
The Astros had a magnificent start to their new AL season…and then showed the league their bullpen traveling circus show last night.
Three walks, 2 hit batsmen and an error all in one inning.
Starter leaves in 5th after throwing 89 pitches down 1-0 with one out. End of 5th? 7-0 Oakland.

@MattF: Kelly was both a Clinton pantie-sniffer and an Iraq War cheerleader. He was a part of the coterie who destroyed TNR. He isn’t quite up there with Cheney in my books, but he did a good deal of harm in both public discourse and public policy while he was alive.

Just bought my roommate’s nephew’s computer. I’m trying to move over my collection of totally legally acquired files.
USB HD says it’s gonna be an hour just to transfer over the stuff on D: drive. And then there’s the stuff on C: – image manipulations, TF2 mods, my Minecraft worlds, all my shit from Steam, etc. Then I have to get it on there. Then nuke this and turn it into a server or something…
I hate switching computers.
In other news: SELLING NOOK COLOR 4GB. $75 OBO. I need the money to, uh, acquire more files. Yeah, that’s the ticket…
Sometimes I keep my face in a jar by the door. Only put it on when absolutely necessary.

I’m reminded of the time a book publisher invited Lynn Spears, mother of Britney and Jamie Lynn, to write a book on her secrets to successful parenting. They paid Mama Spears a big advance, and you may remember what happened right afterwards: Jamie Lynn, then 16 or 17, announced that she was pregnant by her boyfriend. That was the end of Jamie Lynn’s career as a Disney TV starlet, and of Mama Spears’ book project.

@? Martin: I’m not sure if you can use Windows Backup for this kind of thing. Especially since I’m also going from Vista to 7. It’s mostly the time it’s taking. I went in with a scalpel and cut away some files I wasn’t using or could recover, and now the time is down to 40 minutes, but there’s still more transferring to do.
And if I miss something? It’ll be gone if I nuke this box. I’m starting to see the benefits of not using Windows, but I’m lashed to Steam pretty hard and I’ve already spent the money.
Great article, with the added benefit of tying not just the Iraq war boat anchor, but the TNR/Glass journamalism FAIL engine block around that drama queen Sully’s neck. Poor poor stressed out Sully who needs a vacation from all the horror of that Iraq war introspection!

In discussions of ‘what went wrong’ in Iraq, Tom Scocca remembers Michael Kelly:
