Update from Patti, who took the video above while arranging for Lucy’s original rescue:
Lucy was pulled by Much Love Rescue’s Krissy who fell in love with Lucy at the shelter. She pulled her out immediately to take her to Brendwood Animal Hospital to have the sore treated. Lucy will stay there until Friday, when she’ll go to another local hospital to an Oncologist since the tumors and the sore could possibly be cancerous. Eldad Hagar’s (Hope for Paws.org) generous donation to the rescue group is what makes all of these medical procedures, post-op and rehab possible. After Friday, we’re hoping Hal could possibly take her in to help Lucy through her post-op rehab, since being at a loving home is critical for recovery…
Thanks for updating Lucy’s story and making all of those pledges possible. It is very likely Lucy/Foster will need more financial support. Here’s hoping Hal can be the foster… I’ll probably end up asking for visitation rights hahaha…
Jean R left a comment on the earlier thread:
Lucy was pulled from the shelter by Much Love Rescue who are immediately taking her to a hospital for her much needed surgery for the gash on her back. On Friday, they’ll take her to an oncologist to get the sores and tumors checked for cancer.
We have a potential foster [ed: Hal, from the Balloon Juice community!], who visited Lucy yesterday and spent 30 minutes with her, stroked her chest and got along immediately (which is amazing, due to her medical condition and isolation these past 13 days.) He is also networking to see if there are permanent adoptive homes.
NONE of this would have been possible without the efforts of Patti Nakano who kept coordinating this difficult issue, and of course Jay and Nick who got Lucy out of the flood control channel.
Also much thanks to “L A PhoDOGrapher” Seiko M. who contacted rescued groups and got Much Love Rescue involved, and the incomparable Eldad Hagar of Hope For Paws – Animal Rescue. who is so generously funding Lucy’s surgery and after care.
Thank you to all of you here as well. I will try and update as to where funds to help for Lucy’s care can be sent.
Poor girl’s got a long road ahead of her, but she’s in a far better position than she was this time last week. Thanks to everyone who responded, and as soon as I hear anything, I’ll put up another post. With a little luck, there will even be a direct address for donations, and I won’t even be involved to my usual minimal degree of forwarding emails!

@Jebediah:
Well, yes, of course – known only to those in the clique.
You’re either on the bus or off the bus.

Poor girl–glad she’s getting help, but I hope she doesn’t have cancer.

You guys rock so hard I can barely stand it. Here’s hoping Lucy is healthy and happy in no time.

Yaaayyyy! Depending on what part of Mar Vista she originally came from, it’s possible that she was abandoned because her original owners couldn’t afford medical treatment for her.
(I used to live at National and Barrington at the north end of Mar Vista. The park about a half mile from my apartment was where Snoop Dogg’s bodyguard shot and killed a guy in 1993. It’s gentrified since then, though.)

This is hopeful news! Thank goodness Lucy is getting urgent medical attention.
Hal, I don’t know you, but you rock. Krissy, you rock too!
Lucy dog seems like a trooper. My small kids and I saw her racing frantically in the flood channel, and heard her sad howls at night. Very upsetting for all who witnessed.
Heartbreaking to imagine what this poor dog was experiencing. Glad to know that she is no longer alone in her journey.

Wonderful! Thanks for the update!

That’s very good news about Lucy; thanks for all you and the clique do!

Yay for Lucy!!!! I’ve been following her story on pet connect, and found out yesterday.
But I’m in tears over some of the other stories on there, especially this poor sad looking guy who didn’t seem to garner much interest, and is probably dead by now. No updates. :(

Yay! I love happy endings! Keep these posts coming, Anne Laurie! And I hope you will re-post about the two cats that need a new home – it was so unfortunate that the comments got jacked like that.

I’m so happy Lucy is getting medical care. I’ve been thinking about her since the first post. I’m still in for helping with specific expenses and am going to send Much Love Rescue a check today.

@Mnemosyne:
That’s what my Gaby’s former owners did, but at least they had the decency to abandon her at a vet’s office.

This is awesome news! I’m very glad Lucy is being taken care of.

There are some nice photos of Lucy at her erstwhile foster home, getting love, walks, hugs — look at her face — like a different dog. She may not be out of the woods yet but she’s being cared for. Thank you again, everyone, for your support.
