Zsa Zsa went to her forever home today, and I’m terrified Karen is going to think I am never going to leave her alone because I keep calling and asking how she is, but according to Karen she has already explored the space and decided the small bedroom they put her in was not good enough and moved into the master bedroom to take a little nap. Here’s a picture of her at play in her new household:
If that happy little face doesn’t convince you I have made the right decision, I don’t know what will.
The Dangerman
Looks like she made a yarn version of a chalk outline on the floor.
the Conster
She does look happy! It’s a win win win.
Yutsano
KITTEH!! Yep ya done good for once here.
MazeDancer
So wonderful! Kitty moving into bigger space on same day as arrival – that’s remarkable. Clearly, Zsa Zsa knows she’s at home. And that she is Queen of All She Surveys.
Well done, John!
Morzer
That outline on the floor looks suspiciously like Tunch in its general dimensions.
J.A.F. Rusty Shackleford
Jackson Galaxy would be proud.
Dee Loralei
Awwww she looks happy John. And yay to Karen and Mr Karen!
BGinCHI
Let’s wait until we hear what Halperin and the crew at First Read say, then we can be sure.
Ted & Hellen
Heartless bastard.
Baud
@BGinCHI:
They’ll say Obama should have done a better job reaching out to Zsa Zsa.
Emma
You’re a mensch, John. She looks like she knows she’s home.
Helen Bedd
ixnay on the eadlineay….my first thought seeing “in the sky” was that her 9th life had run its course….
sheesh, almost had a heart attack
monkeyfister
Well-done, John. BZ!!
Of, course you know, we’ll expect occasional updates of the Zsa Zsa Chronicals. She is a lovely little girl. She seems to be showing her happiness of the scent of only the one other pet. She KNOWS she’s gonna be someone special, and soon to be fat witf da toonas.
This blogodrome really does have a heart of pure gold.
Actually worth the $19.99 Subscription price.
MattR
@Morzer:
There’s not enough yarn in the world to outline Tunch.
Just Some Fuckhead
You keep saying “forever home”. Did the cat die, John?
JPL
Thank Karen for the picture of Zsa Zsa and she does look happy.
You did good.
Ben Franklin
Kitteh ! Kitteh ! Kitteh !
Omnes Omnibus
@Just Some Fuckhead: Tunch eated her.
Debg
Enjoy your new palace, princess!
JPL
John, Are you going to share with us, how much money your April Fools Day prank raised?
Just Some Fuckhead
@Omnes Omnibus: John is being pretty evasive about the whole thing.
gogol's wife
She is so cute. It must have been hard to give her up.
Litlebritdifrnt
You did good John she is where she belongs.
Omnes Omnibus
@Just Some Fuckhead: This pic is suspiciously in focus. Taken weeks ago? Elsewhere and by someone else?
peej
She looks stoned to me. Was catnip involved anywhere?
Alison
Anyone who would say you didn’t do the right thing is a dumb ass. I mean…how on Earth would it be better to keep an animal in a situation where it is obviously not happy? It’s not like you dumped her off at a shelter that would put her down in two days or on the side of the road or something. You found her a loving home that will better fit her preferences and where she’ll be loved and warm and snuggly. Nothing wrong about that at all.
peej
@Omnes Omnibus: The fact that the picture is in focus just means that Cole didn’t take it.
Mnemosyne
Maybe what you have is a “Green Acres” problem and Zsa Zsa wanted a penthouse view rather than a doghouse view.
It also kind of reminds me of when we first got our middle cat, Annie. She had gone to a previous home that didn’t work out, so her fosterer was a little nervous. She called us the day after we picked Annie up and asked us how things were going.
We said, “Okay, I guess. She seems a little nervous — we keep turning around and she’s standing there looking at us.”
There was a pause, and the fosterer said, “You mean she’s out where you can see her?” Apparently the problem in the previous home was that Annie never actually emerged from behind the TV set and they had to call the fosterer to find her so they could send her back.
But it helped that we had Mr. Charm & Personality on site to set Annie at ease, so at least she was pretty sure we weren’t planning to kill and eat her immediately.
Steeplejack
Okay, “happy little face” is a stretch, but you did make the right decision.
BGinCHI
@Omnes Omnibus: Pic is obviously Cole in a cat suit.
gogol's wife
@Steeplejack:
Yes, I read that as the usual mistrustful, alert, not-giving-anyone-the-benefit-of-the-doubt look that my cats always have. But they’re happy, so it’s okay.
arguingwithsignposts
RAPE THE BEANS!
oops, wrong thread.
BGinCHI
Post title make anyone else hungry for pie?
Baud
@JPL:
So that’s why it’s the least blurry picture of Zsa Zsa I’ve seen.
Omnes Omnibus
@BGinCHI: Would it surprise anyone to find out the man is a furry?
ETA: I am not judging.
Valdivia
happy cat is happy. so glad for her John.
Mnemosyne
@gogol’s wife:
To me, it looks like “MUST. KILL. STRING.” cat-on-a-mission face.
If you want to see mistrustful, I’ll find one of Annie’s pictures. G always says that she thinks she’s running a long con on us. “These suckers are feeding me, playing with me, scooping my shit, and rubbing my belly whenever I demand it! What’s in it for them?”
Mnemosyne
@BGinCHI:
No, but it did remind me I have stuff to drop off at the dry cleaners.
TheOtherWa
Sometimes doing the right thing is very, very hard. You did the right thing for everyone. I raise a glass of wine to you, John.
Patricia Kayden
Movin’ on up, indeed. Gorgeous kitty.
Quicksand
@Helen Bedd:
I don’t believe the Jeffersons were all dead, were they? Maybe I have been interpreting that show wrong all along.
BGinCHI
@Omnes Omnibus: It would surprise me if he wasn’t, given his sleeping arrangements.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Now that I think about it, are there any Cole posts that don’t seem in some way like a cry for help?
Comrade Mary
@Mnemosyne: I got a Green Acres vibe too, but that was Eva, not Zsa Zsa.
Which means that John = Oliver, Rosie = Mr. Haney, and Lily = every damn girl from Petticoat Junction.
Omnes Omnibus
@BGinCHI:
No.
John Cole
@JPL: Over 500.
Mnemosyne
@Comrade Mary:
Yep — Eva was the one sister of the three who could act. Well, play a likeable facsimile of herself, anyway. I love The Rescuers in large part because of her and Bob Newhart as the leads.
John Cole
@JPL: Although we spent 110 today on a good cause. Anne Laurie will update in a bit.

I’m glad things seem to be working out for Zsa Zsa, wherever she settled.
We’re recently adopted a 12-ish yr old rescue kitty who was seriously traumatized by her experience on the streets. It’s a slog, quite honestly, but we are making slow progress. She’s finally decided that as the main source of food, I can be trusted enough to wait for me outside one of the hides holes we’ve provided her in “her” bedroom. But our other cat now refuses to come anywhere near that space, including into the bedroom I usually sleep in, where she used to spend most nights curled up with me.
Sigh. I’m in this for the long haul, but it’s a bit intimidating when I see how long the run may be.
Just Some Fuckhead
@Omnes Omnibus:
I’d politely suggest we hold off on the jokes until we find out if a tragedy has in fact been perpetrated here.
quannlace
How does her new staff…er, I mean her new owners like her?
Omnes Omnibus
@Just Some Fuckhead: Tragedy or crime?
Redshirt
You folks think that pic is in focus? Maybe my eyes are going. Looks like it went through a Photoshop filter to me.
Hmm. The plot thickens…
JPL
@John Cole: Nice. Now I feel bad that I was snookered too.
Anne Laurie
@JPL:
Don’t know the total, but I can attest that some of it has already gone back into the BJ community to help two other cats looking for a new home. Rescue bleg later this evening!
Just Some Fuckhead
You should do an April Fools joke every day, John. At $500 a pop, every day of the year.. Wow, I can’t even do the math on that one. It would be way more than $500.
Sanjuro
I know that around here Zsa Zsa will always be known as Zsa Zsa but are Karen and husband planning on keeping the name or will there be a renaming ceremony?
SuzieC
@John Cole:
Pretty good total from the “morans”, as you call your readers who contributed.
John Cole
@SuzieC: It’s an amazingly generous sum. I was just mad that my first damned attempt at an April Fool’s Joke blew up in my face.
SuzieC
@John Cole:
Some of us obv. never read Sully and wouldn’t recognize a parody post if it slapped us across the face, as yours was intended to do.
Roger Moore
@quannlace:
The correct, neutral term is her new humans. Or new hoomans if you’re speaking in LOLSpeak. I like it as an expression, since it says that there’s a relationship between cat and human, but doesn’t spell out exactly how it works.

Jeebus, I wish at this moment I could swap out the littlest grandkid for his ‘forever’ home. He woke up from his nap screaming like a banshee and wet in his shorts and momma’s gone and the other two kids are playing Minecraft (doing fine) but Nonna needs a fucking nap herself.
Glad your little Zsa Zsa found a wonderful home. She looks like a lovely kitty.
Sigh.
eta: Usually the littlest grandkid is a wonderball – fun and happy and with the biggest blue eyes ! I don’t mean to disparage the little fuck.
Morzer
@BGinCHI:
With those clear green eyes?
Probability: low.
Josie
@Mnemosyne: This is exactly what I saw in that face:
I would also say that anyone walking by should be very protective of their ankles.
Omnes Omnibus
@Morzer: Contacts.
Keith G
Okay, a busy week means that my check-ins were limited. Were there posts antecedent to this one?
I feel so lost.
edit…I found it
Cole..you need to give animals more time to acclimate. What will you do with a headstrong kid?
Just Some Fuckhead
@John Cole: Shoulda listened to me when I told you to turn Balloon Juice into a dating site for animal-collecting shut-ins, eHoardingMe.
Mnemosyne
@Roger Moore:
We’re convinced the cats think we’re just hairless monkeys, so that’s the term we use.
@dance around in your bones:
To paraphrase Anne Lamott, you love ’em, but sometimes you want to pick them up by the ankles and swing them around your head like a bolo.
SiubhanDuinne
@Helen Bedd: Me too.
Morzer
@Omnes Omnibus:
But no red-rimmed effect.
Cole probability: vanishingly low.
Anyway, look at those intelligent, elegant ears!
Omnes Omnibus
@Morzer:
You got me there.
LT
You made the right decision. Good on ya.
SiubhanDuinne
@dance around in your bones:
If we ever get rotating tags back, this needs to be one.
schrodinger's cat
@BGinCHI: Too dainty to be Cole.
Fort Geek
@Helen Bedd: That’s what I was thinking, too–especially when I got to “went to her forever home today.”
dance around in your bones
@Mnemosyne:
Jeebus, ain’t that the truth. Swing ’em around like a lasso. He’s usually such a sweet little guy. But sometimes wakes up Breaking Bad.
@SiubhanDuinne: Dang, whatever happened to the rotating tags? Also, the rollover captions on Cole’s pics?
AND WHERE IS THE COOL LITTLE OLD GUY WITH THE STRIPED PANTS, THE CANE AND THE MEGAPHONE? BRING HIM BACK< GAWDAMINT! OR I WON'T PAY THE $!19.99!
(well, I prolly wouldn't anyway, but….)
rikyrah
glad she is happy

They look so sweet while they sleep so you won’t smother them with the pillow at the end of a long long day.
Angela
You are a mensch Cole! Zsa Zsa looks happy and more.

WRONG AGAIN COLE IS WRONG AGAIN ARG BARG BLOGGLE BLEAAHH
danielx
@John Cole:
Don’t feel badly. I read a David Brooks column yesterday and even now can’t decide whether he was serious, whether it was an April Fools joke, or a story from the Onion under David Brooks’ byline.
Actually I’m faced with the same sort of question more or less every time I read a David Brooks column.
different-church-lady
the hell… how many Zsa Zsa posts have I missed? I thought she was going to be an official permanent Cole.
Morzer
@danielx:
David Brooks is intensely serious about being paid to produce .. well, whatever category of self-pleasing verbiage it is he produces.
danielx
@Morzer:
I’m still leaning toward the idea that he has some custom software into which he can plug the theme of the column – austerity, dirty fucking hippies, Applebees, whatever – and it will automatically spit out appropriate word salad in the amount of 800 words or so.
Nice work if you can get it.
Laura C
I think it’s good. I got my Henley because my best friend, who’d gotten him from foster care, had given it a really good try and her original cat was never going to accept him, and the living situation was changing such that the cats couldn’t be kept apart as effectively.
And you know, it was so the right call, and now I have a cat that spends huge chunks of the day just staring at me and purring, and basically follows me around the apartment.
Morzer
@danielx:
I am so seriously tempted to try and create a David Brooks column generator. It probably wouldn’t be that hard either.
Seanly
I must’ve missed the post where Zsa Zsa wasn’t enjoy the Cole Cornucopia of Pets. When I read the first lines, I thought the poor kitty had passed…
NCSteve
I’m sure she’s happy because some cats just need to be only-cats (or at least the first in the house rather than the last) but that picture looks a lot more like the standard “whafuck?” look I get in 90% of the cat pictures I’ve ever taken. (Or at least 90% of the ones that don’t have flash-induced Devil Eyes or Laser Eyes.)
ninja3000
UP YOURS, JOHN! (umm, because you didn’t offer her to me…)
Yes, she looks happy at her new home, and I hope she has a long spoiled life.
Bulworth
I hope John has parental visitation rights for Ms Zsa Zsa…
