“One proposed cover-a photograph of Jagger naked on a cross-was scrapped by the record company for being “in bad taste”.[12] Initial releases of the album featured a three-dimensional picture of the band on the cover by photographer Michael Cooper. When viewed in a certain way, the lenticular image shows the band members’ faces turning towards each other with the exception of Jagger, whose hands appear crossed in front of him.[citation needed] Looking closely on its cover, one can see the faces of each of the four Beatles,[citation needed] reportedly a response to the Beatles’ inclusion of a doll wearing a “Welcome the Rolling Stones” sweater on the cover of Sgt. Since this is an open thread, I want to mention that Mr. Alice who was on the September page of the calendar this year went to kitty heaven today. He was my son’s cat that he adopted (found in front of a pizza place) as a kitten. Alice was diagnosed with feline leukemia when he was young and lived eleven good years. A few years ago my son and Alice lived with me while in between jobs. When the economy improved they moved on. I helped him pack his car but two weeks later when he picked up Mr. Alice I cried. Since Alice was failing and steroids and antibiotics no longer worked, he came to visit a few days ago. He loved to torment Miss Moxie my dog. Unfortunately that wouldn’t perk him up. Between 2009 and 2013 there has been a tremendous push by President Obama, Big Mainstream Media, the Pentagon and Defense Industrial Base, and businesses large and small, to pound the Cyber security, Cyber Safety threat into the consciousness of the American public. The verbiage and theater used in this process is nearly the same as that used for pushing other threats and, subsequently, waging war at an incredible cost in lives and treasure. Terrorism, Weapons of Mass Destruction and Iraq, Iran; and illicit drugs come to mind. The US is already at war with Iran having inserted computer viruses into the SCADA’s of Iran’s industrial equipment and assisting in the murders of Iranian scientists. Who knows where other US created Cyber Weapons will create havoc.
Very sorry about Mr. Alice (great name), and you are absolutely right. A loved and lost animal is no more replaceable than a human being.

@JPL: Sorry to hear that. My bunny Georgia, who is also in the calendar, had to spend the night at the vet’s last night because she’d stopped eating for a day, which is much worse for a ruminant than a carnivore.
She was enough better to come this morning, and is eating some, but she’s still not out of the woods. We have a bunch of meds and get to give her sub-Q fluids until she’s eating and drinking properly again. (And, of course, we have a big vet bill which was not what I needed while still being unemployed, but we do what we have to.)

Have you done all you can do
Are you with me doctor?

@scav: I know! We joked that she was just faking being sick to get out of Easter Bunny duties. I’m really glad she’s okay, though; I was really worried last night. It’s possible the overnight stay was just the new guy at the vet’s being overly cautious, though; they often don’t eat well for part of a day when they first start shedding. However, if we squirt some water in their mouths to get things going, that usually clears up by the next morning, and this didn’t.
89.
raven
@Gravenstone: Ugh, I like him even less now that I know he’s a thumper too:
In fact, when Alford took the head coaching position at Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State), the school gave him permission to hire his father as an assistant coach. “That was a tremendous blessing,” he says. “One, for God to open up that door; and two, for Southwest Missouri State to allow us that opportunity. A lot of universities and colleges wouldn’t allow us to do that.”
At the University of Iowa, Sam Alford became Director of Basketball Operations under his son before retiring in 2004, which allowed Alford and his father to spend nine years together in college basketball.

@JPL: RIP, Mr. Alice. What can I say? It’s always heart-wrenching.
When I first met my husband, he had a rabbit named Mother – all white with a black ring around one eye. Fully trained to go in a litter box and just the neatest bunny ever.
Also, I hear you about the vet bills. I remember going off on the vet’s receptionist once because I wanted to pay the bill for my cat (bitten by a coyote) in installments….””We don’t do that” says she. I said remember I just paid you guys $800 last week for my dog?(shot in the paw by some gun nut/surgery/cast) I cannot DO this, I live paycheck to paycheck. Vet came out and we worked out a plan. Gads. I think I started screaming about them playing off our love for our animals. I’m sure they loved that. Shit.
Oh, and everyone think good thoughts for me this week — an old boss got me an interview with Amazon, so I’m furiously studying to make a good impression. Software engineer interviews now seem to involve answering questions about computer science concepts I haven’t used in twenty years, most of which I probably won’t use again after I start work.

@daveX99: I feel sorry for chemtrails people. They’re either suffering from migraines, organic brain disease (maybe schizophrenia), or bad allergies+depression and the medical system has offered them no relief or told them to forget it or it’s all in their head. They’re sure something in the environment is causing their problems which are ruining their lives but since authority has denied all the conventional sources (with schizophrenia, however, it’s just part of the disease), so they find fellow sufferers who assure them that it’s a secret reason. Aha! No wonder nobody will/can help them!
I’m pretty sure most of these people would be hard pressed to offer a non-technological alternative for how clouds form, and how long it takes, and in what shapes, and so forth.
No, that would be hard.

Very sorry about Mr. Alice (great name), and you are absolutely right. A loved and lost animal is no more replaceable than a human being.
My second generation of doggies, Maggie and Rocky, have been with us 10 years, and are thankfully doing well…..but I still get teary at the memory of their predecessors, Rambo and Max, who have been gone since ’02 and ’05, respectively.

(That would be a great name for a band).

Any chance SPT will be putting up Dr. Who thread? New episode tonight!
raven
@Litlebritdifrnt: Who?

@Litlebritdifrnt:
Katy tried,
I was halfway crucified
I was on the other side of no tomorrow
You walked in and my life began again
Just when I’d spent the last piaster I could borrow
All night long,
we would sing that stupid song
And every word we sang,
I knew was true
Are you with me Dr. Wu
Are you really just a shadow Of the man that I once knew
Are you crazy are you high
Or just an ordinary guy
Have you done all you can do
Are you with me doctor?

@The Dangerman: Alford got his coaching start at my alma mater. Took them to the Div III finals his last year, then bolted to SE Mo State. Grasping, grasping little fucker. I will enjoy watching him implode in the bright lights of LA.

@Gravenstone: Was his daddy with him there too?

@JPL: Sounds like he will be remembered fondly for just about ever.

@Litlebritdifrnt: Doing the repeats on BBCA in the run up to tonight’s new one. Also, Matt Smith and Jenna Louise Coleman will be on the Nerdist tonight, so that could be amusing.

@Redshift: This of all weekends should be dedicated to Bunny Support Efforts. Good for you and best to Georgia.

@raven: Dunno, it was a few years after I’d graduated. Don’t remember hearing whether he’d brought pops along for the coaching staff.

However, if we squirt some water in their mouths to get things going, that usually clears up by the next morning, and this didn’t.
raven
@Gravenstone: Ugh, I like him even less now that I know he’s a thumper too:

@JPL: RIP, Mr. Alice. What can I say? It’s always heart-wrenching.
@Redshift: May Georgia pull through.

@Redshift: My SIL works for them and she loves it. Of course they fired me after a week so take that for what it’s worth.

Anyone seen this Jim Carrey video satirising Charleton Heston? Apparently it’s got right up the noses of various Fox News types….

This is very late to the game, but has she ever been to Niagara Falls? They even named the bridge after this conspiracy!

So – here’s a lady who lives in a neighborhood with a constant serenade of sirens and with a fence that appears to be riddled with bullets… and the thing bothering her the most is the sprinkler rainbow?!

@Litlebritdifrnt:
Well, some news for Whovians: despite her disappointing-to-the-fans demurral on Graham Norton;s show a few eeks back, it looks like Billie Piper AND David Tennant will be back in the TARDIS for the Doctor Who 50th-anniversary special airing in November !
The first episode of the first series of the first incarnation (starring William Hartnell – The First Doctor) aired Nov. 23, 1963 – as the BBC later noted: a classic case of bad timing….

I always try to take some consolation by dwelling on the good life I (hope I) managed to give them.

@JPL: You guys had an incredible run with Mr. Alice. I’ve never heard of a cat with feline leukemia living that long. I raised two leukemia kittens once; even with homeopathic vet care, homemade organic food and lots of vitamins they both died within two years.
Kudos to you for loving a leukemia kitty and my condolences on his passing.

@JPL: Damnit. Much strength and sympathy to you.

@SiubhanDuinne: I’d like to ooze a rainbow or two.
Unfortunately, I have to cook dinner instead. Where’s my rainbows!? Spoze to rain this weekend, so maybe we’ll see one of those suspicious rainbows in the sky and wonder what the nefarious Kenyan is up to ;)

Turns out that pretty much every cloud is just hiding a large alien / government / stolen devel technology aircraft using metamaterial cloaking.
I’m pretty sure most of these people would be hard pressed to offer a non-technological alternative for how clouds form, and how long it takes, and in what shapes, and so forth.
No, that would be hard.
But GUBMIT / AYLEEUN CONSPIRSEE is easier, and it involves a real and amazing science term, so it must be true.
