I have attached the first picture of Koda and the first of Koda and Otis meeting each other.
Well, Koda’s flight finally came in about midnight (it was supposed to land at 9:30pm). She weathered the flight, long as it was, well and was very happy to see us when they wheeled her kennel over to us. We took her outside to the pet area to let her run some energy off and then she jumped right into the car and we headed home.
We took about an hour, letting Koda smell Otis’ stuff while we had Otis outside and then switched and let Otis sniff Koda’s kennel. We put up the baby gate and brought them both in and let them sniff each other through the baby gate. Otis was a bit put out, but took the whole thing quite well considering his anxious nature. Koda is adorable, very well behaved, and full of energy. She ran all over the house, checking out the new digs, and then we put her in her kennel so we could get to bed as it was after 1am and I had to go to work this morning. The morning went even better and John expects to spend a lot of time with both of them. The second picture shows their first real contact. So far, only a little bit of growling on Otis’ part and it is probably more due to the fact that Koda is a ball of energy and Otis is, at 8 years old, slowing down and quite the chilled doggie.
They were running around too much to get any other pics, but I’ll update as things calm down.
For now, I can’t thank BJ enough. I love this pup already and I know she’s going to be happy and wonderful addition to our home.

This makes me so happy! Looking forward to lots more pictures and stories as she settles in. What a great happy ending story, and how incredibly emblematic it is of this great Balloon Juice community.

Thank you AL.
Got rejected by capcha at Rumproast just now.
Can’t go there for the BJ sleepover tonight.

Yay!

@Maude:
So does that mean you’re officially not human?
Congrats, geg6.

This is too much cuteness. I’m a puddle on the floor.

YAY KODAPUPPEH!!
The growls will continue until they decide who the top dog is. Then they’ll both settle down and all will be well. :)

Very sweet. I predict Otis will be very happy with his new companion.

Congrats again geg6. I bet you will find that Otis’s energy level picks up now that he has a new friend. And Koda will obviously be thrilled in her forever home.
Reminds me of perhaps my favorite dog story not involving Ellie. I went to visit a friend with a lab puppy who was also dogsitting another friend’s adult boxer. The puppy was all over the boxer and when they finally took a break we noticed the boxer’s jowels and neck area had all these red marks from where the puppy scratched her. We felt bad and were trying to figure out how to keep them separated to give the boxer some peace when she got up from her resting place, grabbed a squeaky toy, walked over to the puppy and started squeaking it in her face until the puppy got back up to play.
EDIT: When I got Ellie at 7 months her brother was also up for adoption. I sometimes wonder if they ran into each other on the street would they recognize one another.

@Maude: I hate that captcha crap.
Half the time it’s in Hebrew or something, so what am I supposed to do with that? I remember when Steve Benen was at Washington Monthly, and it was just such a hassle trying to navigate the damn captcha crap that it wasn’t worth commenting.
eta: Oh, and felicitaciones on your new perrito, geg6!

Oh, she’s so cute! Congrats to you and John and Otis for the new family member! So adorable. Happy, happy, happy!

It’s so irritating. Can’t comment on Wash Month.
Wash Month was supposed to get rid of it.
A blog needs comments.
Had to use magnifying glass to see and still couldn’t figure out some of it.

@Maude:
Supposedly you can click to get a new captcha if you can’t figure out the original one, or even get an audio one?
But hell, I’m not gonna jump through all those hoops just to leave a stupid comment. That’s one thing I love about this place, is that it’s easy to comment. Well, plus the commentariat makes me laugh a lot.
Oh what am I going to DO tonight???? Movies, books….

I hate hate hate that captcha crap. But hey! You can make up to $5000 a week working remotely with it. Click here for details!

Yay Koda! Yay geg6! Yay Otis! Balloon Juice: where awesome critters come to find their forever homes.
O/T, but I’m just getting around to trying TaMara’s pressure cooker corned beef recipe for supper tonight. Has anyone else tried it, and if so do you have any hints/tips? I’m planning on using pickle juice, but am a little worried that it might give it a somewhat non-traditional flavor. (Ms. Influence is not a lover of corned beef, so a non-traditional flavor could be a good thing…) Ideas?

Ok, I have pathetically loaded up a bunch of BJ threads that I hadn’t read yet, so at least I will have something to read tonight before we :::OMG!go DARK!:::

Let’s get creative.

My Les Misérables addiction has led me to start listening to it in German on YouTube (actually, because I find it’s good listening comprehension practice). Ich hab geträumt vor langer Zeit is always good for priming the old waterworks.

Thanks so much for the pictures and the info for Koda.

I don’t know about that one: it involves a particularly disgusting person’s name, and might be just a little too gross to be taught to children.

Congrats geg6. BJers helped me give Natasha her forever home and I sm very grateful they did. It is obvious Koda found a great home. Thanks BJers for all the pets and homes you have helped put together.

Congratulations to geg, John, Koda and Otis. Lovely family just got lovelier.
Thanks for the pictures, too.

I have enough trouble moderating the kids f-words to teach them new cuss words, gawd forbid.
The closest I have gotten is to introduce them to the Diarrhea Song which they sing to their great delight and their parent’s despair.

This has just been a great story from beginning to end. Hats off to everyone involved, and thanks to geg6 for the pictures and updates.
@dance around in your bones: If you’re downloading BJ threads to read tonight, look for one from a couple of years ago about a big fiberglass statue of Jesus that got hit by lightning and burned. I sprained several ribs laughing at that one.

Awesome news! That dog melted my heart the first time I saw her and I’m so happy she’s in such a loving home.

@Amir Khalid:
I’m intrigued by this Diarrhea Song. Maybe there is a Syphilis Song dance can teach the kids.

Woo hoo! Love it!
I’m wondering if there’s some Dobe in Koda. Those lighting moves suggest such to me.

@Amir Khalid: I often deliver cusswords in Spanish so they don’t understand.
One day my daughter said “You know, the oldest knows what chingadera means”. My oops!
(I must say that I find that definition to be a bit lacking – chingar means to fuck or to fuck with, as I learned in Mexico (practically my first new word in Spanish).

@Calming Influence: Aw, why couldn’t they have gone with Buddy Christ?
raven
@jeffreyw: Boy she is on serious alert!
TaMara (BHF)
@Calming Influence: I do! I do! I have hints! Most of the traditional spices used for corned beef are dill seed and peppercorns (you know, that packet of spices that usually come with the beef), so it’s pretty close the original flavor.
My only real issue when I made it was I should have trimmed the fat a bit more.

Congrats to geg6 and the whole family!

@dance around in your bones:
A long time ago, the Fox network announced an episode of The X-Files, by special guest scriptwriter Stephen King, with the title “Chinga”. The title had to be changed in a hurry, to “Bunghoney” — which doesn’t really sound that much better.
Baud
@dance around in your bones:
Awesome. That’s the comment we should take into the shutdown.
dance around in your bones
@Amir Khalid:
Jeez, I wonder if Stephen King did that on purpose? Knowing that most people wouldn’t get it?
Bunghoney is definitely not much better.
Basically, as I first learned the term chingadera it meant “that fucking thing”.
I remember, because when we first moved to Baja we asked our landlord’s son where we could buy vacuum cleaner bags, and he said “I don’t know, we don’t use those chingaderas much here”.
Explanations followed.

Bandit update: He’s settling in well. Apparently he was a stray before and is very cautious around men but he likes the male members of the house just fine. He definitely has severe anxiety issues–he had to be sedated for a vet appointment–but right now we’re focusing on giving him lots of love and getting him fully adjusted to our home. He also has pink eye, but is recovering nicely. I’m so glad to have him around!
