Just Some Fuckhead
Take a picture of the iPhoto screen with your phone.

Googling “iPhoto to iPhone” gets me this:

RosiesDad
create an album in iPhoto, put the picture in it and then sync the album to your phone. That will probably work.

If you have Photostream turned on on both you can save from it to the iPhone.

This has bedeviled me, as well, and it seems a glaring exception to Apple’s vaunted intuitive human engineering bit. I look forward to seeing the answers, myself!

@RosiesDad:
This is how I do it, and it works great. You need to specify that folder in iTunes while you have your iPhone plugged in (under the “Pictures” tab).

Deleting duplicate. FYWP!

Email it to yourself, open the email on the phone, save to your photo library on iPhone

What everyone else said. Either create album to sync in iPhoto and then specify that under the Photos tab in iTunes, and do an iTunes cable sync; OR copy into Photo Stream (you need to be signed in to iCloud and have latest iPhoto for that, and have it enabled under iCloud settings on your phone). It should show up in the Photo Stream album on your phone automagically (but I think only when the phone is on Wi-Fi).
My general feeling is that if you already cable-sync, then do it the iTunes way, and if you never cable-sync, do it the Photo Stream way.

@TOP123: everything iTunes related is a violation of natural human interfacing. It is the worst part of Apple.

Put the picture in an album in iPhoto. Then sync that photo album to your phone.

sign up for the cloud and it will appear like magic

@Joel: I’ve heard that the other groups at Apple all hate the iTunes development group. I can believe it.

Did anyone else see the “I was hacked video?”
One route was via itunes. The point was that, who knew, when itunes first developed, that the itunes security would matter to you entire computing existence.
the other route was amazon.
The (ab)use of the AT&T teletype service for the deaf was interesting.

I don’t know if this app is any good because I just downloaded it myself — but it’s free, apparently just for today.
It’s called Image Transfer Plus.

I use Dropbox on my older G4s and G5. They don’t have the ability to access iCloud.
RIP Apple iDisk.

@catclub: I have Server Auditor. It’s OK as an SSH client, and it’s free.
Quicksand
catclub, there are lots of ssh terminal-type apps in the app store.
But if you want real scp access to your iPhone’s full filesystem, then you’ll have to jailbreak. Then you can drink your fill of unixy command-line utilities.

I got Dropbox to sync 1Password on my devices, but found that I could move photos and other files around seamlessly. iTunes limits you to your computer and the devices you sync with it, but Dropbox lets me move files between home and work computers, my wife’s computer, my iPad, and my iPhone.

More like sleepy black kitty is sleepy. Why are you pointing that thing at me human?
@catclub:
Jake has just enough white hairs to avoid being considered a witch’s familiar. When I got him, he had one white whisker, which was amazingly cute. Unfortunately, it fell out and grew back black. He even has some black claws.

I use Photo Transfer App to send photos to and from my iPhone, iPads, and Windows, works good. There are many transfer apps to choose from in the App Store.

I do not like iPhoto. I still haven’t figured out how to export the pic out of iPhoto. On our desktop my other half has hers set up to automatically import photo’s much like cds to iTunes but I had to turn mine off because I just can’t seem to use iPhoto. I lost too many series of shots to the deep dark netherworld so I stopped it. Yea, I know it can be done but if it’s that much a pain in the ass I don’t do it. So I crop, rotate and resize in Preview. It works, and if I really need anything bad I can always use Photoshop, which is more cumbersome but at least it works relatively easily.
