One Day Baby – Open Thread

I’m sure you’ll be hard pressed to believe that I found this song on a Spotify playlist called “Hipster International”. Here’s an open thread.

Let the pope fluffing begin! He’s humble! He’ll promote the life of the mind! He prays to Mary! He’s a breath of fresh air! He cares about the poor! I’m sure our media will focus any minute now on his relationship with the junta, amirite?

No love for Scott Prouty? Fellow Masshole. I knew a guy named Prouty back in the day. Even looked like our friend Scott. Maybe related, dunno.

Meanwhile, the WFMU pledge drive with Yo La Tengo murderating all sorts of things is running NOW. It’s usually in the evening, but YLT are in Germany on tour, so on their day off, they’re holed up in a studio with a German engineer.

WFMU home page (with streams at top and links for pledging)

Live setlist on Google docs shows what they’ve covered so far

And just for you, Francis, a little Monochrome Set.

    @Joel (Macho Man Randy Savage):

Yup – another stand up guy from Boston, who knows what it means to work. Well played, Scott Prouty.

Cardinal why don’t you promote yourself to Pope? The conclave has spoken.

Worst short cut ever. Stupid doesn’t even begin to describe these maroons.

Hipster International? I invested in them a couple years ago.

Beyond the “Government trips over itself” point-of-view of the ariticle, it does seem odd that having a condom is proof of loitering for the purposes of prostitution.

YLT doing Neil Diamond right now. Awesome.

    Comrade Mary says:

@MikeJ: Yeah, they’re pretty tight today, but not uptight, you dig? That Google doc also shows their setlists for their tour and it’s great to see how they mix things up from night to night.

I prefer the remix you posted to the radio edit of the original.

Another One Day, by The Church. (This really is lapsed Catholic day, isn’t it?)

I saw a crawl on the tv this morning that Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood criticized a UN report that aims to end violence against women and girls saying it is a deception. I thought, how ironic that our own wingnuts fought against renewing the violence against women act here. One item in Muslim Brotherhood’s 10 point critique is that the UN document seeks to destroy the family institution. Could any of our msm ace reporters please ask Marsha Blackburn, Cantor and all the rest of the 138 or so Republicans who voted against the VAWA how they are different from the Muslim Brotherhood? I particularly wish they would pile on the most islamophobic members. Stupid question, won’t happen.

Updating the BIOS on my laptop. Also found the latest iteration of FF is a massive memory hog. Sigh. I wanted to have this thing last me at least until I’m a GS-8 and can afford stuff a bit better.

    Omnes Omnibus says:

@Suffern ACE: Aside from the idiocy of trying argue that possession of a condom is evidence of prostitution, the fact that NYC is handing the things out for free raises a giant entrapment issue.

Oh, sweet tapdancing Jesus Christ, YES! Also, too, that new built-in PDF reader is a piece of shit.

I for some insane reason am looking forward to the knuckle dragging/drooling/ranting coming out of CPAC today. It’ll be a nice respite from 24/7 all Pope/some Obama slaming the MSM dredges up that I’m bored with.

  19. 19
    Violet says:

@Comrade Mary: Totally agree. The PDF reader is utter crap. Hate it.

@kindness: Isn’t Sarah Palin speaking at that thing? That ought to be good for some entertainment. And isn’t Trump showing up? How long before she’s on Celebrity Apprentice?

@Comrade Mary: I noticed out of nowhere my computer was dragging like crazy, so I did a couple of performance checks. Everything looked fine except FF’s memory usage was just HUGE. There must be some way of paring that down cause it’s ridonkulous.

If we had nice things like legitimate journalism, this would be a fantastic story to cover. Just think of the great soundbites they’d get from all those folks. Too bad it won’t happen. There is just so much more they have to say about white house tours and the hounds of wingnutville would descend upon them for unfairly picking on the Republicans.

That’s why those same nutjobs get all worked up about Muslims in the government and shariah law – they don’t want the competition.

@Omnes Omnibus: @Higgs Boson’s Mate: I rather like Flirt, but that sounds more like a quark (they bag all the good names).

Quoting their own words is now grounds for squeals of outrage. Quoting two or more participants at a conservative event is now categorized as a “witch hunt.”

@Older_Wiser: Well, as the Higg’s Boson failed entirely to destroy the world as we know it or merely a chunk of Switzerland (yes, some breadstuffs may have suffered), I think Flatus Prolongo Flirtus I is looking much the better deal

I heard he once lived inside of a porta-john for twelve years as a testament to his asceticism.

Dear music industry: sweep filtering the vocals is no longer novel — enough.

In the meantime… people keep asking me, “What is a hipster nowadays?” Because everyone seems to be over-using to mean, “Any person younger than I am who seems to be having more fun with their life than I am.” Now, instead of doing a bunch of tedious explaining, I can just show them this video and be done.

    It’s Pi Day, people!

I would have thought that with the geek quotient around here, not to mention how much our trolls love pie, we would have had a thread on this, or at least some acknowledgment.
