I’ll say it over and over and over.
The Democrats need to just keep on this line:
The GOP is committing ECONOMIC TREASON against this country.
And has been doing so since January 20, 2009.

GOP POV:
Unemployment down?
AGAIN!
Well, we can’t have THAT, now can we?
Where will our party be, if people are insufficiently angry and afraid?
Well, that’s what this whole “Sequester” thing is for us – a way keep the economy bad and to keep the natives restless.
Now, if only some terrorists would attack NYC, or SF, or LA (the city, not the good Conservative state)?
Let us pray…
OH LORD, WE ARE THE TRUE FAITHFUL!
WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN US?
Ben Cisco ( onboard the Defiant)
@rikyrah: Indeed. Would that your wisdom were more widely spread amongst Team Democrat.

@rikyrah:
In his wildest fantasies, Osama bin Laden couldn’t have hoped to cause this country as much trouble as the goopers.

@c u n d gulag: I know it’s snark, but knowing they invoke it non-ironically pisses me off.

Good news on the jobs front. The people that decide to start hiring and expanding, don’t necessarily follow keynesian theory for their decisions to take the leap. The conditions for more hiring have been favorable for awhile. There is a school of thought that the captains of industry feel best when the government does less, so we shall see.
The sequester will no doubt give some hit to GDP, and do damage to some important research and development efforts, especially in health and medicine, not to mention delivering some individual pain for those that get laid off or furloughed. But overall, the jury is out whether it will cause a big hit and a lasting one. I kind of doubt it, for no other reason than business has held back for a long time now, and the urges expansion have built up.

This is great news for Jeb Bush.

@RinaX:
Who cares about the economy anymore, when progressives have Rand fucking Paul to rally around as a spanky new Mr Smith goes to Washington hero, to finally turn the tide against the Obot drone menace.

We desperately needed a good jobs report–increasing the odds that the economy will survive the self-inflicted wounds of our growing austerity culture.
Limping ahead isn’t great, but it beats another recession. That’s good for at least one cheer.

I wish my employment news was as good. Looks like I wasn’t the first choice for the academic job I interviewed for last week (I didn’t exactly fit what they were looking for – but was a strong enough candidate that they wanted to bring me to campus to see me in action).

@hildebrand:
Sorry to hear that.
KEEP PLUGGIN’!!!

Any economists here?
I see in another report that productivity is down. Does this mean companies have squeezed everything out of their existing employees and will be forced to hire to support demand?
liberal
@The Other Bob:
IANAE, but I always thought that productivity numbers are probably pretty noisy and dependent on the business cycle.

TRMS had a great segment last night where the rank and file R’s aren’t being told the truth or can’t find the truth about the President’s proposals, thanks to their own laziness for not even checking the government websites available to all or having the Prez’s offers filtered down to them from the Leadership which is apparently rejecting and sitting on all WH proposals…

Rush Limbaugh told me that I should disregard all positive economic news from here forward (at least until 1/20/17), because it’s all being faked by the Great Dictator Barry Hussein al-Qaeda Osama.
Why wouldn’t I believe a thrice-divorced pill-popping Dominican boy-fucking woman-hating radio host? Surely he would not lie to me.

Unemployment crisis over, time to get serious about inflation! We’re practically Africa here with our super high hyper-inflation!
liberal
@Bulworth:
The funniest thing about that is that the right-wingers/Austrians who go on about that have no understanding how the monetary system works. (Unfortunately, not many people of our “ilk” understand either.)
Roger Moore
@liberal:
That’s about what I heard on the news when they mentioned the decline in productivity. They said it was because of seasonal factors and probably didn’t mean anything in the big picture. They certainly weren’t treating it as an excuse for gloom and doom, which is what I’d expect them to do if they could possibly spin it that way.

Well, sequester is sort of an abstract word.
What it means for our little government contractor is nearly 50% layoff of staff, or, alternatively, 20% cut in hours worked and pay. Both for six months or, if the House gets its way, forever.
Bill Murray
@Roger Moore: so are the U3 unemployment numbers. This could just be another case of premature green shoots
grooverider31
@r€nato: hehe, well said!
the lost puppy
7.7%??!
That middle class is gonna start getting uppity again.
danimal
The sequester is really stupid policy, but it will grind against GOP interests over time. Hold the line. The GOP declarations of victory will become an albatross as defense contractors and local universities, among others, start to loudly bitch about the cuts. They will get killed in the local media before the national media ever notice a thing.
But they will eventually notice; a lot of the cuts affect NoVa and Md, so the national media may develop sympathy as their kids soccer coach gets furloughed. If it happens in a poor neighborhood, it’s a statistic. If it happens in Arlington, VA, it’s a tragedy.

The lede on Drudge is 89+ million not working, a new record. They do mention down in the fine print that the number includes retiree’s. We will continue to set new records with that number. The baby boomers haveset new records since 1946, – being born, starting kindergarten, high school graduation class, and now retirees.
ANything to create a crisis. These folks are beyond hope
Mnemosyne
@JP7505A:
To be fair, the Drudge crowd thinks that retirement is for wussies and 90-year-olds should have to keep working until they drop dead.
