Republicans love Bill Cosby, especially when he tells people to get their shit together.
Yeah, they probably won’t enjoy that so much.
And then we saw this 5 minutes before the show:
We have words.
Today on #TWiBRadio, we’re joined by Anthea Butler wherein she drops knowledge about the real state of race relations in Philadelphia.

And this morning on #amTWiB, Barbara Arnwine joined the #MorningCrew to discuss the Voting Rights Act in the Supreme Court and apparently Mitt Romney really did lose the election because of free stuff for “minorities.”

Saw that. Hated that.
You know, I’m white. And the only person who’s ever “played the race card” against me? Also white:
“Spare some change, sir?”
“Sorry.”
“Yeah, everyone gives money to Mexicans but nobody will help Americans.”
Oddly enough, exactly the kind of story righties will breathlessly tell each other about their traumatic experiences with “the blacks.” Funny that the only real life instance of it I’ve ever seen came from a white conservative.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
I assume Cosby is talking about SOTU. They never did censure that “you lie!” POS from So Carolina, did they? And still Ron Fournier is gassing on about how Obama just needs to “lead”, and Bill Keller has a long op-ed in the NYT with the simple title “Obama’s Fault”.
I can’t remember who I heard on TV talking about Romney being a decent guy, but… I would say his exploitation of birtherism– Donald Trump was doing robo-calls to working class white targets– and so many other dogwhistles takes him out of the ‘decent’ category, but what do I know?
Linda Featheringill
Well, I actually am white in Philly, sort of. Suburbs. Newcomer. And I really don’t know enough about race relations here to carry on an intelligent conversation.
Now, the situation in Cleveland, OH I could talk about.
ruemara
I told you, black people don’t exist. Neither do women. It’s only white males, then some other things with inconvenient desirable parts, labour and unruly minds.
Violet
White male is the standard. Everyone else is “other”.
TR
Clearly, Bill Cosby is The Real Racist.
El Caganer
The state of race relations here in Philly? Try reading the comments in any story – news, sports, business – that is accompanied by a picture of somebody who isn’t white over at http://www.philly.com. Better yet, don’t even bother: whatever you imagine, it’s worse.
gbear
@El Caganer: Same here with the St. Paul paper. Even if the story has a white bad guy, the comments will get around to blaming and cursing minorities. My city votes very blue, but the people who spend their time throwing up comments in the paper are scum. Heartbreaking stupidity.
kc
It has been my observation that a sure way for a black person to endear himself to Republicans is by criticizing black people.
kc
@gbear:
Same thing in SC. Of course …
Spaghetti Lee
@gbear:
Seems to be the case with every city. Mostly old cranks in the suburbs, I guess. No one who comments on a city newspaper’s site ever seems to actually like the city in question, or anyone who lives there.
Bizono
@El Caganer: Newspaper commenters are still the worst. I love my urban hellhole.
David Koch
Did Frank Rizzo’s ghost write that article?
I imagine being white in Philly is like those morons on “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” or those idiots in “Silver Linings Playbook”. Flip, Flip, Flipadelphia!
TGC
@kc: Modus Operandi of nearly every black conservative.
Ben Cisco (onboard the Defiant)
@Spaghetti Lee: Sadly, Charlotte suffers from the same affliction.
Ben Cisco ( onboard the Defiant)
@kc: Charlotte is the same.
El Caganer
@Spaghetti Lee: One of the things that bothers me is that these aren’t just random assholes who could be from anywhere – you can tell by the locations they name that they actually know the city.
Of course, Philadelphia is the only city I’ve been in in which somebody tried to recruit me to the KKK. I must have been giving off some really strange vibes.
Splitting Image
The only newspaper where I’ve ever read an article with comments that were mostly intelligent, thoughtful, and fairly liberal was the Salt Lake City Tribune.
Make of that what you will.
My working theory is that intelligent, thoughtful liberals are as rare in SLC as the maniacs screaming on street corners are in most other cities, so they congregate in newspaper comment sections for the same reasons the other guys do everywhere else.
themann1086
@El Caganer: You’ll never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than the philly.com comment section.
Isn’t Philadelphia (the magazine) actually written by suburbanites? As opposed to the infinitely better City Weekly (and the adequate Philadelphia Weekly, with Dan Savage!), it’s total garbage.
El Caganer
@themann1086: Yep, Philadelphia Magazine is every bit as Philadelphian as…well, the Main Line.

I was able to get twibradio on iTunes. Dunno what the issue is.
