Hey, no fair, West Coasters are still working!
ETA: Correction: Was working; close enough.

I expect drunk blogging.
Bqhatevwr, my friends!
Gin & Tonic
I raise my glass in your general direction, although I don’t think I can make the 400+ miles before you wind it up and leave.
taylormattd
Hi Ellen and Doug. Have a booze for me ok?
Gin & Tonic
I didn’t post twice. Did I mention I hate the new site?
PeakVT
Have fun!
Entirely unrelated: Landsat 8 launched successfully today. Video at the link.
The Dangerman
@PeakVT:
Beautiful day for a launch. Once saw a TitanIV go up when I was near Lompoc years ago; a beautiful show (that doesn’t last very long).
Gin & Tonic
@The Dangerman: We actually got to see a night-time shuttle launch live. That was pretty spectacular.
BillinGlendaleCa
So you’re sitting under a dinosaur? Isn’t that more the republican way?
ETA: Sinclair merged/purchased by Satan prior to my becoming one of his minions.
taylormattd
@Gin & Tonic: Is the site new? How can one tell?
Gin & Tonic
@taylormattd: Does it suck? There’s your answer.

Have a blast y’all! Wish I could be there. Want to do one in Memphis the same day the Klan has it’s rally here? I think it’d behoove us to show up and point and laugh at ’em!
The Dangerman
@Gin & Tonic:
Envious! Generally, Vandenburg shots don’t broadcast the times in advance, so it’s hit and miss in my neighborhood. There was a heavy payload launch in the not too distant past that they did advertise in advance, but I was away (and bummed; I have a particularly good viewing location if the weather holds).
scav
@PeakVT: There is something satisfying about that sort of traditional (!) rocket launch. That brief pause of slow momentous lift before it really goes just gets me. And huzzah LandSat and bretheren.
Heliopause
By any chance is Ellen the one in the Bad Idea T-Shirts ad?
David in NY
Have a fine time, everybody.

I’m an old, so I have this memory of BEGGING my parents to gas-up at Sinclair stations b/c with every full tank the customer received green dinosaur-shaped soap (Apatosaurus, aka Brontosaurus). For some reason, those soaps are a cherished memory of my childhood.

I can’t remember what it was like to be able to go someplace. Stuck in my house since Friday, plow guy still not here, not clear he can get the driveway plowed even if he does show up. Al Gore is fat.
ericblair
Bah, can’t make it. Wife is out so gotta watch the kids and make sure they don’t build a nuclear reactor in the basement or whatever. I will, however, have a beer in silent tribute.
Poopyman
Here I sit, 18 miles SE as the crow flies, but oh so many troublesome driving miles. I’m polishing off a bottle of cab, however. Do try to keep up.
Poopyman
Actually, that might be closer to 30 crow-miles.

When I left Team Tunch Going Galt One Beer @ a Time was tearing it up in trivia.
planetjanet
Great to see you all tonight. Wish I could have stayed longer.
ET
@Heliopause: nope sorry

We demand compromising photos! Compromising photos!
guachi
Had a blast!
However, my camera’s battery was drained so no pics.
And… we got smoked in the second half of trivia. In our defense, we didn’t feel bad not knowing 2007 Top 40 songs or movies with ex-SNL cast members.
eemom
That was REALLY fun. Can’t remember the last time time flew so fast I missed the last Metro.
Thanks to Elizabelle for the awesomest EVAH idea of the Tunch & Lily name tags! Much enjoyed making your acquaintance, and also that of ET, Pink Snapdragon, Mumphrey, random ephemeral, planetjanet, LG Rooney, Mr. Dillinger, nice young journalist dude and math prof whose names I didn’t capture, charming red bearded former Wonkette blogger, guachi to whose lack of a charged camera battery I could TOTALLY relate, and last but not least of course DougJ and Redshift. A great time!
Also too, all that beer. omg. Next time a wine bar. [burp]
Pink Snapdragon
I want to second eemom’s comment. What an interesting group of people! So glad Doug Galt suggested it.
Redshift
A most excellent gathering! Can we local Juicers make some arrangement to get together occasionally even without the excuse of an FPer in town?
LGRooney
@Redshift: My wife immediately commented on my lack of social skills when she started peppering me with questions last night upon my return home. “When are you getting together next?” “Did you get anyone’s contact info?” That’s why I prefer to hide behind her in social situations, she knows the rules of human interaction.
For personal or political (Virginia elections this year) reasons, getting together without the excuse of an FPer is not a bad idea.
Valdivia
@Redshift:
oh yes please do this again so that those who were in a near-catatonic situation in bed and at home can make it to the next one.
Zapruder F. Mashtots, D.D.S. (Mumphrey, et al.)
That was fun. I, too, would like to do it again. I think we’ll need bigger name tages, though, if I’m going to fit all of my former names on it…
Aexia
Lovely meeting y’all. We should do a trivia team in the city at some point.
Elizabelle
Good morning. Excellent evening, and indebted to DougJ for putting it together.
Pleasure meeting all of you, and what happens at carpool stays at carpool. Fab.
Redshift: I think we should do some more meetups, and maybe even do some politicking in Virginia. Got to keep it safe from the Cooch and more transvaginal mischief.
If we plan another drinks night this spring, we can meet Valdivia (whose ears were burning; she was missed) and other localish BJ fans. Maybe even do a pub crawl.
Mumphrey: you shall have an 8.5 x 11 nametag, should you want it, but you will always be Mumphrey to me. Regret not getting to chat enough with your end of the table!
So cool meeting you all non-virtually. Lovely group of curmudgeons. Not knowing 2007 pop songs should not tarnish us much in later life.
andrewtna
Great meeting you all. Thanks Doug for setting everything up

Sorry I missed it. 9-week-olds have no concept of respect for parental entertainment desires.
