Felicitations to our friends & commentors on the Last Continent! (Terry Pratchett joke).
Yes, I usually wait for an Early Morning OT, but by then the day (Junary 26) is almost over in Oz. And besides, I’ve never run into Gurrumul before, which seems almost criminal.

Things would be fine here if the remains of cyclone Oswald would just go away. There’s flooding up and down the coast.
We refuse to celebrate Australia Day in this house, not least because it’s on the wrong day (it should be January 1), but because it’s been taken over by bogan boosterism.
Call me conservative, but I prefer the old days when nobody gave a stuff about it.

@Viva BrisVegas: Bogan=chav?
Bnut
GD, this is so random, but does anyone know if we have any crime scene investigators/forensic investigators/homicide detectives who post here? It’s an education (as in schooling) question, not something nefarious.

Eric Bogle was born in Scotland, but he’s written some great songs about Australia. Viva BrisVegas probably hates Aussie BBQ.
Viva BrisVegas
@Origuy:
Gross slander. No true Australian hates BBQ.
I just dislike having some dickhead waving a flag in my face while I’m trying to eat.
Anyway, no bbqs today, it won’t stop raining.
Best songs about Australia come from Paul Kelly.

@Viva BrisVegas:
How fares the republican movement in Australia?
Debbie(Aussie)
We are Planning the great aussie BBQ for Monday arvo. Daughter Leah is leaving to Townsville Friday, with me as co driver. U nsure how roads will be.
Very wet and so much cooler

Dead as a doornail.
Which will not change until Liz is no longer amongst us. Then I suspect things will move quickly.
TheMightyTrowel
@Viva BrisVegas: Down here in the ACT manmade fireworks have been replaced by big flashy lightning. Much better show. Also re: Liz kicking the proverbial bucket… I think if Chuckie takes over then there will be a swift movement towards Republicanism, not so sure though if she hangs on and just hands the whole shebang over to Wills. People seem to really groove on him and Kate.

Took my son down to Surf Beach at Torquay – not at all because it was Australia Day, more because it was a nice Saturday. Surprisingly uncrowded down there, actually. First time at the ocean for him (just under 2 1/2), and he wasn’t too sure about the water. Did NOT want to take off his shoes and wade in, even with me or his mum holding his hand. Still, he clearly enjoyed himself, and he’ll get to like swimming in the ocean eventually I’m sure. His mum will make sure of that!

Happy holiday to those who celebrate or observe it. I have three APA mates who live in Australia. One is an American expat (she married an Aussie) and the other two were born there.
Back in 1984, there was an art show at the Asia Society of Aboriginal art. It was stunning and I fell in love with the paintings. IIRC, they had native music as a background throughout the exhibit.

Very dramatic and now suspenseful Australian Open

@Platonicspoof: So is that it? Guess it is.

It really does feel like I’ve wandered into a thread where everyone is posting in a foreign language.

Looks like massholes are ready to fuck up yet again.

@amk:
The story says most of the people haven’t heard of the Democratic candidate. Don’t give up hope yet!

@amk: Depends. Scott Brown was up big over his last opponent too.

Still staying away from the tellie news but heard on the radio snippets of bastard republicans admonishing and abusing (well, trying to anyways) Hillary Clinton.
Seriously? After 20 fucking years of surviving and thriving in the face of their abuse, did they honestly think they were going to intimidate this woman with their puerile little faux outrage?
Well, no, it’s all for show. Assholes not fit to lick her pumps trying sooo hard to keep the Benghazi temper tantrum alive but it doesn’t seem to be working. I am so sick of them shitting their diapers over this.
hep kitty
@amk: Maybe Mass. deserves him as governor.

@Raven:
It’s definitely a case of the tv version being better than what anyone could write down about it.

@mikej(droid):
I went to the Urban Dictionary for definition of bogan and found it very amusing. There are several definitions there and each one is a gem. Also, I recognized dopplegangers of several of my relatives. :-)
[New word for me. Thanks.]

Isnt Australia just felons and koala bears?
/closes history book
magurakurin
@Punchy:
No, there is also an amazing array of world class right points.
Viva BrisVegas
@Raven:
I think it refers to some gentlemen taking a motor excursion to the noted Victorian leisure spot of Bonnie Doon. Perhaps for a scenic jaunt and some fly fishing.
Also it’s a quote from the movie “The Castle”.
@Punchy:
Well in Australia a collection of thieving scum gave birth to a free and fair democracy. There are countries that have gone in the opposite direction.
Also we have koalas (not bears), which are smelly and grumpy.

@Punchy:
No, they’ve all burned to death.

They say the heat and the flies here can drive a man insane. But you don’t have to believe that, and nor does that bright mauve elephant that just cycled past.
