Jeebus. Is Mark that good of a cocksucker that he can talk with Drudge’s dick in his mouth?

Watching C-Span just now, I saw Obama sign his first post-inauguration documents. He’s flanked by Reid, Schumer, Biden, Pelosi, Cantor, and Boehner… and dryly says, “I’m sending a few nominations up… which I know will be handled with great dispatch.” The Dems chuckle. Boehner and Cantor just stand there poker-faced and grim.
Matthew Reid Krell
@Yutsano: Well, that escalated quickly.

Wonderful inaugural speech by President Obama. 4 more years, indeed.

The beltway’s favorite talking point in the last week or so is the President has to be nicer to Republicans. Never mind their 4 year campaign to destroy him, it’s on Obama to make things right.

Some idiot woman on CBS is now saying that she read the speech as the President “pleading with Congress to work with him” or some crap. No, it was a reminder and directive to American citizens that this is Our Country and we need to make Our Representatives work for US. WE THE PEOPLE.

@Alison: Uh, I think the point is that the “ballsy” thing was letting his Pokemon evolve last year–yeah, the tide had turned, but it was still a historic moment and it probably moved public opinion and more importantly, perception of the issue.
Bragging it about it later is no surprise if you watched his campaign speeches or looked at the vote totals on the SSM questions nationwide.
Big O is pretty ballsy, but the fact that he was mentioning that issue and not the president before him just highlights what a coward that guy was. The movement brought about that massive change in public opinion and monumental changes in law–Obama is just a very key ally.
I just find it funny that we have a live emoprog here praising Big O on this issue when 2-3 years ago Obama had “broken promises” “done nothing” blah blah blah right before DADT was repealed, and then when it was, DADT repeal was supposed to be “no big deal” despite the considerable institutional hurdles the White House had to overcome to make it reality. You know what? Fuck you, whiners.
I only hope the immigrant rights community aren’t such punks, whiners, and bed-wetters as to spit in Obama’s face when the process of immigration reform inevitably gets ugly.

I still want to know where the fuck in the USA gas was priced at $1.84 on Jan. 20 of 2009. Where I live, gas is cheaper than just about anywhere else (currently running between 2.99 & 3.04 at most stations) and the lowest it got was about three months after the crash, around Christmas 2008. Even then, it barely dipped below $2.00 and by the end of January 2009, it was back up in the $2.10 – $2.20 range, and as the people who fucked the real estate market rushed into oil speculation, by the middle of that year it had gone up over $2.50 and has never since come back down.
Never mind that before the crash, gas had consistently hovered in the $2.50 – $3.00 range for several years, occassionally shooting up to $4.00 or beyond in some places. It’s like history began on Jan. 20, 2009; it would be pointless to speculate on what things were like in the dark mists of unrecorded history prior to that date.

@Jennifer: Actually, when the market imploded in Sept 2008, commodity prices imploded as well. Average retail price of gas plummeted from $4 to $1.60 in 4 months, and then started to climb again once the stimulus was signed.
With unemployment skyrocketing gas demand plunged, and the mechanics of the commodity markets fell apart in much the same way that the other financial markets fell apart – everyone took their cash out and held onto it, not knowing what the future would bring. By June 2009, gas was back to $2.60 and steadily climbed for the next two years.
So, it’s true, but $1.60 gas wasn’t some great national achievement, rather was yet another measure that the previous administrations had blown up the economy.

There are entire universes of accomplishments that she not only ignores there, but by leaving them out, discounts all the genuinely great accomplishments the man has managed to make in spite of the all-out hate and jealousy from both the right and the professional left, one of whom is digby. She’s a one-note Debbie Downer. She should take some anti-depressants and get on with her life, which is not exactly filled with near as many liberal accomplishments as the man she so easily dismisses as just an African American who happened to get lucky enough to get elected president and who has move just a bit in the general direction of seeing LGBTs as actual humans. @FlipYrWhig:
Well, if you say so. You might note however, that I never said it.
Millions of us don’t find it necessary to cleave to political heroes. We are SUPPOSED to be skeptical and cynical and demanding; it’s our civic duty.
You really would be more at home in a dictatorship type situation.

You’re either arguing in bad faith
No shit. Although calling what they do arguing is to abuse the word beyond recognition. This is the closest D&B can come to an argument
http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/be76d3ca8d/argument-clinic-from-monty-python-from-greatest-comedy-sketches
What they do is pop up here, say something insulting or despicable and then wait for people to respond. Then they masturbate furiously over the attention. You’ll notice the periods of absence after each visit. It takes them time to get the angry inch stiff again. Perhaps they have some pictures cut out of the childerns underwear ads from Target to help them but its the outraged response that gets them off.

Idiotic and homophobic is not a good way to go thru life.
Your comment might be just a tad generalizing.
But whatever, I get it: Barack is awesome and Rush Limbaugh would totes be a great fashion designer cause he understands women.
Got it.
FlipYrWhig
@Ted & Hellen: all you’re doing is proving what I contended earlier, which is that the whole reason behind acting like a chronically disappointed mope is to prove that you haven’t been suckered because you’re too savvy-cool for that. That’s not politics. That’s narcissism and psychodrama.
scav
@MikeJ: what should worry them even more might be that they don’t even appear to have an audience to yell at them about it. The loss of the debug your own newspaper crew a.k.a. dedicated eyeballs might be a problem, no?

Wait.. He & She stopped doing that at some point?
Well, there’s the problem right off the bat: what makes her think that’s one of his goals?
Wow, I had no idea she’d become that far gone.
I never thought she was the gold standard to begin with, and I have no hatred for her now, but that is some grade A bullshit she’s got on her shovel there.
Ted & Hellen
@FlipYrWhig:
Seriously…other than your own imaginings…on what do you base the idea that people who feel as I do are trying to “prove” anything?
Perhaps this is what we actually, you know…believe.
Have you always felt like you weren’t in the “cool” group. Did those other kids always make you feel less than, like nothing, including you, would ever be enough to please them?
different-church-lady
@Ted & Hellen: So… knowing that you’re capable of clever, I’ma wondering if you deliberately downgrade your trolling because you know it’s more annoying that way?

Jeepers, he just learned how to put on the boxing gloves. Too soon to take them off.
I don’t know about anybody else, but I’ve not noticed Boehner publicly issuing any calls for renewed political comity. And, David Gregory is always, always carrying water for the right.

Whiny David Gregory just now: The president doesn’t seem to like politics as much as being a leader.

@geg6: This is saddening, and kinds rings true for me. I remember her first intro at one of the Netroots events, thinking “Wow, she’s just an ordinary person like me.” I used to read Digby frequently until the 2008 election when she lost her fucking mind. Now she’s way up in the Orly Taitz/Jane Hamsher orbits, and it’s too much fuel to fly that far out.

at this link you can track the price of a gallon of gas in every major metro area for the last 8 years
For [random] example on 1/21/09 gas was around $1.85 in Akron, Oh, and Los Angeles, $1.59 in Salt Lake City, $1.69 in Boston
http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx?time=24
