I still remember the Baltimore Colts. It still seems weird they way they shuffled them around.
“The Band That Wouldn’t Die” opens with funereal footage of the Mayflower moving vans that Colts owner Robert Irsay hired to move the team from its Owings Mills training facility to Indianapolis on a wintry night in March 1984, leaving only the gray slush of betrayal in their wake. For Baltimore football fans (many of whom refuse to patronize Mayflower to this day), the images of the trucks in the snow are their Zapuder film, burned into memory but still horrifyingly gripping.

Maureen Dowd’s contribution to the discusion on the “fiscal cliff”:
fox-trotting in to save the day on the fiscal cliff as the “dancing partner” of McConnell, Biden seemed more like an indispensable partner to the detached president who loathes dealing with Congress — a capable, genial Captain Kirk balancing out Obama’s brilliant but rigid Spock.
Will no one rid me of this tiresome political dilettante ? Is there any hostage we can exchange Maureen Dowd with? I despise her for being inane and shallow in her analysis; and for waisting a huge opportunity to use her valuable column for things that matter. Why must she be so idiotic.
It’s more that the Village Courtiers just do not accept that Obama is really the president. It’s like the Clinton era without Whitewater or the sexy stuff. Cole, you are a child – because the Steelers didn’t make it you hate the Ravens? I always root for the Steelers once the Ravens are out of it – grow up.
107.
gogiggs
@Cermet:
1) Fuck you. 2)enh, I’m not racist at all, but everyone is at least a little stupid, including me. 3) Two people were murdered. This is not in question. Ray Lewis, at minimum, had the killers driven away from the scene in his limo and, in some accounts, did more. I think that qualifies as helping murder someone. Indeed, while he was never charged with the murders he was the only person convicted of anything in connection with the murders. So, again, he helped murder two people. There’s nothing stupid or racist about pointing this out.
But, hey, if erasing his victims’ deaths from history and accusing strangers of racism helps you feel better about the fact that you’re willing to overlook murder in order to enjoy football, knock yourself out.

i know and it’s all so unfair for the most powerful man on earth.
Raven
Obama doesn’t like to deal with dickheads, why did you think he’s not here?
JPL
Although I have never been a Redskins fan, I must say that I hope they win this year. My friends parents have been to my house for xmas eve for decades and her Dad is lifelong fan. He’s 86 so this year, I’m cheering for him.
JPL
@Raven: omg, he doesn’t read Balloon Juice.. I am so disappointed.
Raven
@JPL: You didn’t like the Diesel?
Thlayli
@Raven:
Lefty pitchers got creamed in that park, as you can tell by looking at it.
People wonder how Sandy Koufax suddenly became a great pitcher the day Dodger Stadium opened. Well, not having that fence behind him is the main reason.
Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason
Taunting? Your quarterback smells of elderberries?
Just Some Fuckhead
@JPL:
i’m pretty ticked off that there’s only two quarterbacks of color in the playoffs and the nfl made them play each other. it’s almost as bad as the abuse obama gets.
JPL
@Raven: Lived in Dallas at the time when the Cowboys had a decent owner.
Just Some Fuckhead
tough day for the colts. bad Luck.
JPL
@Just Some Fuckhead: So all the q.b’s are albino’s except for two.. I must be color blind cuz I didn’t notice that.
Just Some Fuckhead
@JPL:
the cowboys have been dead to me since they moved from arlington to irving, changed ownership, stadium, management and players. they ain’t the cowboys i rooted against.
Raven
I guess Lewis’s dance is something old dudes can’t get. I cannot imagine Butkus doing some shit like that.
Just Some Fuckhead
@Raven:
meh, i’m as big a ray lewis fan as you are likely to find and i’m no fan of the clown antics passed off as ‘dance’.
Gogiggs
Well, the Ravens won, so we’re looking at least one more week of people talking about the greatness of Ray Lewis and to be fair, he is pretty great. I mean, it’s been a whole decade since he helped murder anybody. That’s real leadership, there.
Anya
@Just Some Fuckhead: Dead thread and all, but fuck you!
West of the Rockies (formerly Frank W.)
@Anya: He got all pissy earlier because some of us dared talk about how sports involves history, noting that teams have relocated over the years. This is, evidently, a no-nostalgia zone. What-ev.
Anya
@West of the Rockies (formerly Frank W.): He can be amusing sometimes but he’s an asshole who thinks he’s smarter than everyone else most of the time. That can be tiresome.
West of the Rockies (formerly Frank W.)
@Anya: I agree. I’ve commented in friendly fashion with him in other (political) threads. He’s busy dominating the new football thread with lots of comments about beast mode and skittles. I like football well enough, but I don’t know the current pop-culture lingo that all the cool guys apparently use on the subject. Oh, well, let it go….
Cermet
@Gogiggs: Your asshole comment proves that you are as stupid as you are racist – because he’s black and refused to help the Cops he somehow is guilty of a crime that no one ever charged him with..
Cole, you are a child – because the Steelers didn’t make it you hate the Ravens? I always root for the Steelers once the Ravens are out of it – grow up.
gogiggs
@Cermet:
Uncle Cosmo
@gogiggs: No, fuck you, you motherfucking asshole. Fuck you with a rusty chainsaw.
