Watching the worst bowl game ever. Rutgers and Va. tech have the worst offenses I’ve seen since, well, every Steelers game this season.

    They should have stopped at “Nobody ever died for dear old Rutgers”. Bowl Games? Inconceivable.

    It doesn’t take skill to get to a bowl.

    You could always watch one of the worst bowl eligible teams in the country get their ass kicked in the Minkie car care who gives a shit bowl

    Not really “watching.” More “have it on in a corner of the den.”
    There was one on last week that was just as bad. So bad, I don’t remember which one it was.
    How did Frank Beamer end up with such a hideous team? Has time totally passed him by? Can’t he recruit any more?

    Thank God college lax starts in six weeks. I’ve had quit enough football for one year, thank you very much.

    Bowl games are all about money.

    Football is incidental and rarely breaks out during the commercials.

    I don’t pay much attention to college football, but overhearing my parents’ running commentary on this game from the other room has been rather amusing.

    @BGinCHI: Ha reminds me of the phrase “the football game will be played during the intervals of the High School Band Performance this evening” What can I say, I am the wife of a High School Band Director,

    Apparently its starting to dawn on at least some TeaHadis that $8/gallon milk is not going to please their constituents, even the ones who are as crazy as they are.

    The Senate passed a Sandy $60.4 billion aid package.
    They also passed Secret Service protection for fmr presidents for life. It had been limited to a few years. It’s a good idea in these times.

    Edit, spell fairy fail

    MattR says:

    @burnspbesq: After the last two minutes yesterday, I’m not surprised.

    So glad that overtime did not screw up the under for me. The number was 42 and I had bad visions of that somehow ending up a 26-20 game or something in 3 OTs

    Mnemosyne says:

    For once, I have the game on (or rather, my dad does). But we only caught the OT part. The announcers have been fairly scathing.

    :::Whew:::
    At least somebody won quickly in that goddamned mess between Rutgers and VT.
    And they switched over just in time to see the zebras miss an obvious block in the back by Texas Tech on a kickoff return for a TD.

    The conventional wisdom is that nothing will make the GOP budge because they are gerrymandered in safe districts.

    However, the teahadists have had the benefit of not having to suffer personally so far. The economy and stock market have steadily improved under Obama, inflation is low, and despite what they believe, no one’s taxes has gone up.

    The unknown here is whether the enough wingnuts have the will to fight when real money (that is, their money) is on the line – both with the fiscal cliff and with the debt ceiling.

    Also, I can’t keep track of these minor bowl games anymore. The Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas? How many Meineke Car Care Bowls are there?

    @Maude:

    The Senate passed…

    Uh-huh. Any doubt on whether the House will even vote on any of it before this Congress formally adjourns on Monday?

    Maude says:

    @efgoldman:
    That’s the $64,000 question.

  21. 21
    efgoldman says:

    @Mnemosyne:

    How many Meineke Car Care Bowls are there?

    Oh, 30 or 40. Or 600. It depends on the wormhole and the singularity, and how many parallel universes one car parts ripoff company can control.

  22. 22
    MattR says:

    @Mnemosyne: How about the San Diego County Federal Credit Union Poinettia Bowl? The Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl would work a whole lot better if it was played in Buffalo and not Arizona. Complete list of bowls here if you are interested.

    I loved that news broke of the NCAA threatening to keep championship events out of NJ if they win their court battle to have legal sports gambling on the day of the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl.

    So the guns that were used in the Rochester shooting of the firefighters were bought by the then-neighbor of the convicted felon shooter, in the company of said shooter. Neighbor has been arrested and claims that shooter stole the guns, police has a somewhat different opinion.

    Just yet another “responsible” gun owner.

    Does he play right wing, goalie, or defense? And the way things are going, he might not have a league to play in. Fuck you, Gary Bettman.

    Rosie Outlook says:

    John, I missed the naked mopping story that the old-timers keep talking about. Could you please re-print it?

  31. 31
    MattR says:

    @Rosie Outlook: Ask and ye shall receive

    Oh, I’m fine.

    I decided to combine some housecleaning with personal hygiene, stripped naked to mop the bathroom and mopped my way into the tub, then, forgetting that the last time I showered I had not turned the knob back so that the water would come out the bottom when I turned it back on, started the shower. This, of course, shot cold water onto the back of my head and neck and back, causing me to shoot straight up into the air, trying to stabilize myself with the mop, slipping, and falling through the shower curtain, almost braining myself on the commode.

    I won’t do that again.

    Not to be confused with the Lily icy fall incident.

    Woke up, walked the dog at about 6 am, her feet got cold, so I picked her up and was carrying her back in when I slipped on the ice. I fell forward, rolled to my right so I would not crush Lily, and the entire brunt of the fall went to my outstretched right arm. My shoulder dislocated and I heard crunching and had immediate excruciating pain. Got up and used a doorknob to pop my shoulder back in, and it kept popping out of joint, sending me into agony each time.

    Somehow drove to the ER, got some xrays and a ct scan, and I have basically pulverized my scapula. It is broken in multiple places, so I am heavily sedated and wearing a massive shoulder/arm immobilizer. Surgery next week.

    On the upside, I was not naked in the shower with a mop.

    mainmati says:

    Yeah, the Steelers showed no chemistry this season. It would be easy to point to the Ruthelesshamburger’s failures but I think it was much more due to a lot of injuries and an ability to get the team mojo together the way that the unlikely Redskins and, of course, the Falcons have managed to do. But as a Pittsburgher, hope springs eternal.
