Via Robin Marty at RH Reality Check (who is sitting across from me right now at the RHRC strategy meeting), a dry-cleaner outfit in Cincinnati, Ohio is splashing its Forced Birther message on wire hangers, either blissfully unaware or blissfully not giving a fuck about the optics of putting a Forced Birth message on a goddamn wire hanger:
There is a branch of anti-choice activists that will use pretty much anything as a medium for their message: newspaper ads, graphic signs displayed in front of schools, bus stop benches. You would think they would know well enough to leave one place untouched, though. Wire coat hangers.
Springdale Drycleaners of Cincinnati, Ohio, has been etching “Choose Life” ads on wire coat hangers used to hang dry-cleaning.
Joan Crawford is not amused.

I put this up on teh book of faces last week and was informed in no uncertain terms that this WENT TOO FAR and how dare I point this out or laugh?!?

Irony is alive.
Ben Franklin
THIS is what you’re on about, ABL?
Chew on this…http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/dec/10/zero-dark-thirty-torture-awards
The claim that waterboarding and other torture techniques were necessary in finding bin Laden was first made earlier this year by Jose Rodriguez, the CIA agent who illegally destroyed the agency’s torture tapes, got protected from prosecution by the DOJ, and then profited off this behavior by writing a book. He made the same claim as “Zero Dark Thirty” regarding the role played by torture in finding bin Laden.
That caused two Senators who are steadfast loyalists of the CIA – Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Dianne Feinstein and Armed Services Committee Chair Carl Levin – to issue statements definitively debunking this assertion. Even the CIA’s then-Director, Leon Panetta, made clear that those techniques played no role in finding bin Laden. An FBI agent central to the bin Laden hunt said the same.

@Ben Franklin:
Yes, who gives a shit about women’s lives and women’s health when there are MEN to be discussed! It’s not like a woman dying because she tried to self-abort is important.

@Ben Franklin:
Shorter Ben:
ABL wrote about something that I don’t find important … to MEEEEEEEEE!
Or even shorter:
Blackety-black-Black-BLACK!!!

As John said, quoted by Doug in post after this one, they are basically assholes.
gwangung
@Ben Franklin:
Acting real Republican there, son….
Just Some Fuckhead
Are we sure this isn’t comedy?
Roger Moore
@Just Some Fuckhead:
These guys don’t do comedy. They’re just too clueless to realize that this is incredibly offensive, or too insensitive to care. They have their holy mission, and they aren’t going to let anything stand in their way.
scav
@Roger Moore: seems a multi-purpose observation in this thread, actually.
Baron Jrod of Keeblershire
Maybe we should start requiring this message on boxes of bullets?
Naw. When you gun a person down in their 115th trimester, that’s just standing your ground. But abortion? That’s murder.
Lurking Canadian
How is it you say it? I can’t even with these people?
Quaker in a Basement
As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.
J. Michael Neal
@Quaker in a Basement: If god had wanted turkeys to fly, he would have given Republicans wings.
Corner Stone
Why would they have a data entry clerk at a strategy meeting?
The Moar You Know
OK, that’s just flat-out fucking funny.
Wag
@J. Michael Neal:
Real turkeys CAN fly. It’s only the bred for the slaughter farm turkeys that have lost that ability.
Kinda like our democracy. Our democracy was able to fly when we ha a press that called out lies instead of relying on both sides do it BS.

I think the Ben Franklin is getting a little more bashing than he deserves. Surely both these issues are worthy of concern–his fault is thinking they exclude each other. I also wonder if people below a certain age might not get the significance of wire hangers.
Carnacki
Some things are so beyond the pale and sensibility that you can’t answer it with reasoned commentary and the appropriate response is, “That’s some seriously fucked up shit.”
Lojasmo
@Ben Franklin:
Shut the fuck up, son.
As an aside, I share a relative in Ben Franklin’s maternal lineage.\

Reminds me of the toilets in hotels:
“Clean And Safety-Sealed For Your Protection!”
Good lawd, Conservatives are truly fucked-up creatures.
Tata
We used to mail signed wire hangers to our womb-controlling representatives in Congress.
Too bad you can’t mail flaming dog poop to drycleaners.
gelfling545
@J: And there are no open threads in which his concerns could be addressed or he could not sat OT but. as I have seen many do here? It is very odd, to my mind, to go on a thread about one topic to complain that it is not about something else. Agree or disagree, fine, but to say don’t talk about this seems a bit unusual.

Wow. That’s really sick.

@Ben Franklin:
Greenwald’s a moron, and you’re even dumber for falling for his shit.
Fuck you.

Fuck you.

And fuck you a second time for believing that whether Jose Rodriguez gets indicted or not is more important than whether millions of American women have access to essential health care and the right to make important decisions regarding their lives.
Your priorities are severely fucked up.
RedKitten
Wow…there are just really no words at all to describe this. Either that dry-cleaner is the most clueless individual in the history of clueless individuals, or he’s utterly evil and knows damn well the symbolism of the coat hanger…and just doesn’t fucking care.
Odie Hugh Manatee
I told my wife about this. I first told her “Lets see if you can see where I am going with what I am going to tell you about something ABL posted at Balloon-Juice.” Then I asked her “You know how some businesses like to put their Christianity right out front, even including pro-Christian messages in the advertising?” She said “Yes”. I then asked her if she remembers the kind of advertising dry cleaners use on clothing they have cleaned and are returning to the customer. Her response? “An abortion message on the clothes hanger paper?” I told her that she picked right up on where this was going and then filled her in on the rest of the story. She literally facepalmed. Her mind, it was boggled. As was mine.
Fucking nuts.
The Other Chuck
@RedKitten: Or he’s really clever and aims to subvert the forced-birth message by provoking questions about whose life is being chosen.
But chances are he’s just a stupid fundie dipshit.
TS
Only result of this will be less customers – great business sense the anti abortion dipsh-ts
Gus
How did Joan Crawford clean her one hitter?

The stupid, it burns.

My apologies to Villago Delenda Est.
