Oh thank you! My wife recently got back from nearly three months visiting family in Thailand. She was concerned because she had not seen any pictures of Tunch since she got back. She was worried about the poor little thing. I told her not to worry – Tunch could go at least six months without eating.

Thank you. I needed that.
I am THIS CLOSE to throwing my cheap Samsung out the window because I just watched a bit of The National on the CBC. Some chundering excuse for a reporter interviewed a DC real estate agent earning over $250,000 a year.
Oh my gosh, people — she works hard! And she makes her employees work hard! And she already pays over 50% of her net income in taxes! And now Obama wants to make her pay more!
Chunder the Neckbeard comes back on camera to say yup, Obama wants to make rich people pay a lot more. Fiscal cliff! Nobody wants to compromise! Real estate lady comes back to say that she thinks they will compromise. C the N tries to look wise as he wraps up the story.
So the average person watching this comes away with the message that the federal tax rate on rich Americans is over 50% (it isn’t) and that Obama wants to raise it by A Whole Fucking Lot (nope).
No mention of the current tax rate or the proposed raise. No mention of the concept of a marginal tax rate and what that really means. No discussion of gross income versus taxable income.
I adopted a couple of cats via BJ.com, and I swear one of them is Tunch’s double (OK, he’s a bit more orange). Big old belly, flab hanging from his chest, and he seems to complain a lot, but damn if he isn’t one of the most affectionate cats I’ve ever had. I wake up every morning to the big boy nuzzling my face while he takes up the edge of my pillow. If he’s not lounging out in the driveway or the back deck, he’s lounging on the bed wherever the blankets are bunched up. It still amazes me when I run into people who hate/fear cats, since they can be the sweetest, chilliest creatures in the world.

Gophers 5, Bemidji 1. Lee Stecklein scored shorthanded (she has yet to score an even strength goal), so the penalty kill is now +5 through 19 games: 9 shorties scored; 4 power play goals allowed. That’s something out of a video game.

…more like a wide lap than any type of personality.
When I go for my Quality Time at the Book Barn, I end up with a cat on my chest, for I have very little room on my lap these days. Nevertheless, this last time I had a little kitty squeeze on there, too. I had a hard time seeing my book over the mound of fur in my face, but it was worth it.
I am glad to see you fully appreciate your animals: being petless, I have to take mine as I can find them, or vicariously through your photos.
The men have given up a 2 goal lead in the second. 2-2 end of 2. Given they are over 6000 ft in Co Springs I may not watch the third period.
My old kiteh has had another episode tonight. This didn’t seem so bad but it went on for a very long time, more than a minute I would guess. Whats odd is once its over she acts fine. Probably drag her back to tthe vet tomorrow even though he couldn’t tell us anything after the first one.

Is there anyone here who has made coquito, aka puerto rican eggnog?
Someone here raved about it a few weeks ago, but all the recipes I find are different:
– Some use 2 cans of coconut cream, some say 1.
– Some use white rum, some say dark.
– Some use sweetened condensed milk, some say unsweetened.
– Some use evaporated milk, others don’t.
– Some use coconut milk, too, others leave it out.
– And the amount of alcohol varies from 4 ounces to 3 cups, with the quantities of other items being roughly the same.
The only things I know for certain at this point are the spices (vanilla, cinnamon, cloves & nutmeg) and that I plan to use a recipe with no egg, And probably dark rum.
I use coconut cream for pina coladas, and a little bit goes a long way. So 2 cans seems crazy, but what do I know?
Hoping to make this on Saturday for drinking with friends on Sunday.
My uncle passed away, and he’s survived by his mother, his wife, his five brothers and sisters, his two boys and his four grandchildren. He was 65 years old and it was cancer. Send your thoughts and prayers his family’s way. Thanks.

Omnes Omnibus
@WaterGirl: You have the mark of the beast. Or cooties.
It still sounds to me like it’s probably seizures, but I’ve never had a cat with seizures, so unfortunately I don’t have any advice or ideas.
The best advice I got from a vet when our cat Natasha had cancer was that if she still had all of her bodily functions (eating, drinking, peeing, pooping) and still wanted to be around us (ie not hiding), she still had pretty good quality of life. If you can evaluate what’s going on by whether or not the cat seems to be in pain or disoriented, that’s probably the best measure to go by. Eighteen years is a long, honorable lifespan for a cat.
ETA: You’re not in So Cal, are you? If so, see if your vet will give you a referral to Animal Specialty Group. They rarely give you good news, but they can usually figure out complicated cases.
54.
WaterGirl
@Omnes Omnibus: I never got the cooties in grade school, so I probably didn’t have any immunity built up. That must be it. I hope cooties don’t last as long as my strep throat did a couple weeks ago!

@Schlemizel: I have a 17+ year old cat who’s had some violent seizures — thankfully, not for almost a year, but she had had 3 or 4 the year before. She would twitch and kick on her side, then slowly calm down, then walk in a circle like in a dizzy bat race, then shake it off and eat a ton of food. Just today she seemed to be super spaced out and fell down one or twice. We’ll see where we are in the morning.
It’s alarming. I feel for you.
56.
FlipYrWhig
@Schlemizel: oh, and the only thing the vet ever told us about dealing with the seizures was to keep her calm and keep her on the floor.
Screw Jerry York. I mean that on all sorts of levels (I didn’t like the guy back when he was the coach at Bowling Green), but you are talking about the wrong sport. I’m talking about the one where the Minnesota Golden Gophers are the defending national champions, are 19-0 this season, have the longest winning streak in NCAA history (now at 27 games) and tonight set the NCAA record for the longest road winning streak at 18 games.
She would twitch and kick on her side, then slowly calm down, then walk in a circle like in a dizzy bat race, then shake it off and eat a ton of food.

@Humble Lurker: Peace to you and your family. Too young to be lost and so many who loved him left behind. May you all find comfort in good memories and happier times. (When my uncles died back to back last year, there was lots of good whiskey, laughter and tears – it all helped).
