NHL is your best sports entertainment value.
Brother Shotgun of Sweet Reason
Wish I was watching Steelers-Ravens right now. Working on a proposal for work — these deadlines just won’t quit. Oh, and my wife claimed the remote this afternoon.
PeakVT
I hope the arena employees have found a way to replace the lost income.

I’m listening to The Allman Brothers, Brothers and Sisters. I’ve never played this record and have no idea where it came from. Southern rock sounds good played fast with a rowdy piano. I should spin Filmore next.
But no TV for me, though.
Citizen_X
What, Cole couldn’t even be bothered?
What’s the matter, John? Afraid of the big bad Ravens? (Although that’s looking pretty rational going into the half.)

Fuck Gary Bettman (and with him the owners of the NHL). It takes a special kind of asshole to bury a major sports league season TWICE in the span of a decade.
James Hare
I’ve been impressed by Batch’s play in this series — that botched snap could have been a sack and he made it into a modest pickup. He had a really nice pass dropped on the sidelines earlier and still made the first down after a Ravens penalty. He’s not Roethlisberger but he’s a very capable backup.
Of course, now that I said something nice he lofts one 10 feet over the head of a receiver in the end zone.

For those in need, NHL 2012 was already on clearance at my local Sears. Of course, the PS3 version isn’t the same as a real game for most people.
Raven
Still suffering a bit from the Dawgs loss. It was a great game with a great finish but it didn’t go our way. Sports are fucking great.

I’m in Mod Jail. If F1lmore a bad word or something? A11man Br0thers?

It blows my mind that the NHL does not realize that it is absolutely annihilating the brand with stunts like this. Coverage of hockey is rare as hen’s teeth already and I’m sure a bunch more channels are going to be jumping to pick up coverage now. I’m outside my team’s dedicated local channel’s broadcast so I got to see 12 of 82 regular season games (or would have if they didn’t axe some to cover Crosby’s come-backx2). They also managed to broadcast exactly 0 of 7 playoff games.
I’m very close to giving up on the sport as a whole.
Geoduck
@Raven: Pet peeve: There’s more than one team out there that uses “Dawgs” as a nickname. Could you be a little more specific?
And the Seahacks won, evidently. Woot.
Mr Stagger Lee
@arguingwithsignposts: Well Bettman did learn from the master, the asshat David Stern, who if he is going to punish San Antonio for sitting out their stars(coming off a brutal road trip) he ought to punish, half the NBA for producing a sucky product.
James Hare
One thing I find disturbing about the reaction to Jovan Belcher: dude committed murder. It’s a shame he killed himself so he couldn’t face justice for his act, but he’s still a murderer.
arguingwithsignposts
@Mr Stagger Lee: I have no love for stern, but the NBA has never cancelled a season, much less two in a decade.
mai naem
@James Hare: I am not quite sure what reaction you are talking about. Hey, its a tragedy for the kid and he killed the girlfriend. As far as justice, if its obvious he killed her, I frankly think he did us all a favor. I don’t mean to sound callous, but he wasn’t going to do the kid a whole lot of good either getting the death penalty or spending his life behind bars. I can’t believe I’m writing this as I am typing it!
Mr Stagger Lee
@arguingwithsignposts: Very true, Stern seems at least to let up the whip hand at times and knows not to blow up the brand. Bettman is playing a game of chicken with Donald Fehr(of baseball fame) and no doubt will F things up.(first victim may be the Columbus BlueJackets)
Raven
@Geoduck: Pet peeve, silly ass UW and SIU fans that try to preempt UGA’s handle!
James E. Powell
I’m looking forward to this week’s coverage of the always entertaining New York Jets.

@arguingwithsignposts:
The biggest problem with the NHL is that stifling defense has prevailed once again over talent and offense.
The Pittsburgh – Philly series last year is what playoff hockey should always look like, but it’s never going to happen given the current structure of the league.
trollhattan
Seahawks give game away in Miami, than snatch the next from da Bears, in Bearland. In the meantime, SF loses to St Louis while continuing the hams-for-arms experiment at QB.
Go figure.

@sylvan:
The biggest problem with the NHL right now is that nobody is playing.
Bubblegum Tate
I’m shaking my fist at Emmanuel Sanders right now. For fuck’s sake, guy!

@Raven:
I’m not really a football fan and didn’t have a dog, or even a dawg, in that fight, but I felt awful for all my UGA friends.
OTOH, I also have lots of ‘Bama friends, and I’m happy for them.
(When I lived in Michigan, I knew one couple of whom the husband was an Ohio State grad and the wife was a U of Michigan alumna, or possibly the other way around, I forget. Anyhow, autumn weekends were … tense … around their house.

@arguingwithsignposts:
Nobody is playing because nobody cares.
They have a shit product that will remain a cult sport in the US for the foreseeable future.

@SiubhanDuinne: I’m too old and experienced to let this shit ruin my life. Once in my whole life my team won it all. I was a rabid Bear fan and the 1985 Superbowl was it. Part of it was that the Bears killed New England but I hosted a big party and, at the end, I was sitting by myself thinking, “this is it?” Beating Ohio State and Michigan to get in the 84 Rose Bowl was pretty special but then flying out the LA and getting killed by a 6-5 UCLA team put a damper on that. The other one that sticks with me was the Illini-North Carolina NCAA Championship. Great Illinois team, tailor made March to the Arch and, as badly as we played, we had a shot at the end to win it. It was a lot like yesterday. Georgia looked awful against the run but we still had a shot from the 4 yd line. Life’s a bitch but I’m feeling more and more it’s the process not the outcome.

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
Having served it the great war that “we never lost a battle” in but still lost the war taught me something I guess.
Raven
Looks like NIU is going to knock the Sooners out of the BCS.
James E. Powell
When the Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore, the rivalry went with him.
Schlemizel
You missed a great one Tim. MN beat WI 2-0 in one heck of a battle royal. It was tight the whole way, though MN dominated
SOG by period: MN 7-17-14 WI 11-2-6
It was tied at 0 until 9 minutes into the third.
Joel
Ha ha, Ravens.
Raven
Charlie Batch is really happy!
Citizen_X
Wow. Good job, Batch and Steelers.
Bubblegum Tate
Charlie Batch gets props over here! He played a really gutsy game in the face of some crazy pressure.
JordanRules
Awww good for Honeybee! Charlie Batch felt that redemption and rivalry victory down deep.
Wooo! Great win.
Cinci I see you.
EcoNerd
Wow. Next game, but Costas just read a very anti-gun exceprt from a Jason Whitlock column. That was the most aggressive gun control advocacy I have seen on network TV in YEARS. And it was during halftime of a football game.
Strange times.

@trollhattan:
I saw Kaepernick keep them in the game with a 50-yard run which set up a field goal.
4jkb4ia
As I understand it the NHL is not playing right now because they have too many teams and too many teams that are losing money. Since the Blues are one of them this gives me no joy to write.
JWL
Straight on, if told (prior to Roth’l’zburger getting hurt) that Charlie Batch’s last start had been in 1991, I’d probably have thought, “that sounds about right”. I’d have guessed he’d been long retired.
Uncle Cosmo
I know this is way late, but congratulations to the Steelers for thoroughly humiliating my Ravens in front of their own fans where they’re spozeta be damn near unbeatable, behind an octogenarian QB and a pickup OL.
I feel there’s now a better than 50-50 chance your game with Cincy in Week 16 will determine the eventual winner of the division while Baltimore loses all its remaining games & gets out its golf clubs come the postseason.
