So, it’s an homage to the King of Pop, and that THRILLER video back from when TaeYang was a toddler… but why “Billy Jean, you set me free” at the 3:19 mark?

Forget it, A.L. It’s Koreatown.

Well, now we know whose lover Billy Jean was.

Step away from that BigBang, A.L. Except Seungri…he’s just dreamy.

This is from the Associated Press writeup of the Duke/Louisville basketball game this evening. (Don’t ask me why I read anything about college basketball; I don’t know.) See if you can spot the problem:
Raven
OK, great kayak fishing but it seems like I got chiggers on one of the brief moments I got out of the boat. It’s early but I’d love some sure fire remedies?
PurpleGirl
@Raven: Sorry, I’m a city girl and have no real experience in the area and know of no remedies, but you have my sympathy for whatever pain you are experiencing.
Josie
Raven – Two things I have used that work are fingernail polish (if you have scratched a lot, it burns) and Desitin (used for diaper rash). You have to cover the bite with something so occlusive that it suffocates the chigger.

Raven:
Wash with hot water & soap to rinse away any enzymes from the bug, apply some alcohol and/or antibiotic cream to kill any germs from it, and apply some hydrocortisone cream or benadryl (diphenhydranine) spray to alleviate the immune system response that causes the itching.

@Josie:
That’s actually a myth, chiggers don’t burrow into the skin.
The nail polish thing can work, because it helps prevent some people from scratching the bite — scratching at it makes it take longer to heal. A corticosteroid or anti-histamine will probably work better to prevent scratching, though, by alleviating the itching.

@JGabriel: Chiggers are common in Texas. The only thing I would add is at night, take a benadryl to help you sleep.
Raven
@JPL: @JGabriel: benadryl wires the shit out of me so I’ll try the others!
Josie
@JGabriel: That’s really interesting. I’m in Texas, and fingernail polish was the treatment of choice as I was growing up. After I had children, I discovered that the Desitin works even better with less burning. It probably works in the same way by keeping the itching to a minimum and healing the irritation. Thanks for the link.
Raven
@Josie: Maybe I can find some Boudreaux’s Butt Paste down here!
Maude
@Josie:
You can use Desitin as mortar between bricks. It’d last a hundred years.

Chiggers! Dreadful things, I’ve got scars on my ankles from itching their bites. Interesting to read the link; I’m glad to know they don’t burrow because that’s just creepy.
Boudreauxs Butt Paste! Great stuff for baby butts, but I think I’ll try JGabriel’s idea first. Thanks for the info!

Have not had chiggers ever, thank pasta, they sound awful. I did have a weird run this fall where I was bitten repeatedly by spiders. I started getting these nasty bites on my stomach and chest but could not figure out why. Man they itched & burned & nothing seemed to make it better.
I could not figure out what was going on until one morning as I was getting dressed I discovered a very tiny spider on the inside of my shirt. I assume there must have been a mommy who dropped a wad of babies in the closet. Some of them must have ‘migrated’ through my wardrobe. I now dress with the lights on!

MATHS IS HARD!
OTOH that is a better constructed English sentence than what is becoming standard for todays newspapers. I am not sure if they have fired all the editors, the reporters never learned English at J school or a combination of both.
Josie
@Raven: It might work if it is as sticky as Desitin. Maude is right – you can’t scrub it off even with soap, which is what makes it so protective.

@Tissue Thin Pseudonym (JMN):
You learn something new every day – for example, that a sufficiently impressive move can reduce the opposing teams score in basketball. And I thought it was only American football that had obscure rules!
Maude
@Josie:
May flies leave scars for life. Nasty. Also black flies.
The plural of fly looks wrong. It’s one of those days.
@Steeplejack (phone):
I use Twitter for information. I follow mostly agencies. I do follow John, Dougj and Sooner. I don’t see the personal junk that would make me slam my head on the keyboard.
The font is big enough on my feed.
I had no idea what John was talking about, I just noticed how well he writes.

@Maude:
I still have scars with slight indentations on the back of my left calf from black flies that managed to get up under my jeans leg and under the fairly snug thick socks I was wearing on a hike through the boreal forest of northern Ontario, summer of 1999. Oddly, I never felt them bite; my first clue was while I was changing clothes and saw that the sock was pretty well soaked through with blood. Just horrible creatures.
Maude
@SiubhanDuinne:
OMG
WaterGirl
@Raven: I can’t take benadryl or anything like that, either!
But there is an over the counter topical benadryl that I CAN use, and it works really well. I’ve seen it in two forms, one is a bottle and you squeeze it out and spread it around. The other is a spray bottle, but that doesn’t work nearly as well.
And I always take this with me when I travel: Sting Stop. I get mine at the health food store.
Sorry about the chiggers, that completely sucks.
Nerull
@Josie: “Suffocating” the chigger doesn’t actually do anything.
A chigger bite is simply that, a bite. They don’t burrow, and they move on after feeding, long gone by the time the itching starts.
The best ways to heal chigger bites are to prevent yourself from scratching them. Nail polish can do this by covering the bite, but antihistamines or corticosteroids may stop the itching.
Nerull
Oops, someone else already mentioned that.
Brachiator
@Raven:
From medicineNet:
Many home remedies for chigger bites are based upon the incorrect belief that chiggers burrow into and remain in the skin. Nail polish, alcohol, and bleach have been applied to the bites to attempt to “suffocate” or kill the chiggers. But because the chiggers are not present in the skin, these methods are not effective.
Treatment for chigger bites is directed toward relieving the itching and inflammation. Calamine lotion and corticosteroid creams may be used to control itching. Oral antihistamines, such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl), may also be used for symptom relief.
